So it's that time again, time when I try to get a game going because I am really in the mood for some Call of Cthulhu. This time I'm aiming even lower. If I get 1-3 players (and 3 players is the max) who are willing to post once a week I'll be happy.
For those of you who don't know, Call of Cthulhu is a Chaosium RPG based on HP Lovecraft's book of the same title. It is a investigative/horror RPG that deals with the occult, supernatural and other nasty beasties. It can have a low survival rate as the game can get quite deadly and it has an even lower sanity rate as mutilated bodies are a lot scarier than people think.
New and experienced players are accepted alike - all creation rules would be posted and mechanics would be explained. The only pre-requisite is that you are able to post at the very least once a week. I know everyone is busy and that we have hit a slump here, but I think we can manage a game where you post once a week and is a lot less rules intensive.
So I've scoured my module archives looking for a game that would work with a low number of players and is short enough that it won't simply lose steam and I've come up with these seven examples here.
The Curious Case of Mr. Corbitt : “An odd neighbor is one thing, but when Mr. Corbitt begins displaying more and more suspicious behavior are our intrepid investigators simply supposed to sit by and allow their property value to be driven down or worse yet some poor person become victim to this strange old man?”
The Sanatorium : “Dr. Aldous Brewer – Friend, Colleague, Man of Science. However he might be known, Dr. Brewer is a brilliant medical doctor with quite the reputation for his unorthodox theories about human psychology. Dr. Brewer has invited you to his offshore island sanatorium where he takes care of some of the wealthiest of patrons and few charity cases. No matter what the case may be, Dr. brewer has promised both and interesting and relaxing week.”
Gate from the Past: “The investigators have been hired by Miskatonic University of Arkham, Massachusetts to investigate reports of strange sightings on a hill west of Arkham. Who knows whether this is just the pranks of some local teenagers or something more…”
The Westchester House: “You have been cordially invited to the Westchester Estate by Sarah Westchester – A well-known heiress. She claims that her homes is epicenter of strange spiritual manifestations and would like it investigated.”
Still Waters: “A simple errand to deliver a valuable artifact to a Miskatonic University professor. A routine task that is about to become a lot more complicated.”
Tell Me, Have you seen the Yellow Sign: “A New Orleans reporter is murdered after stumbling into an occult conspiracy. The only clue is a scrap of paper with a strange sign drawn on it that the dead man was clutching."
What goes around…: “A quick trip down Main street turns deadly when a local jewelry store explodes in a ball of flames. Being first on the scene gives draws the investigators into something a bit more curious and a bit more nefarious than your average fire…”
Pick two in the poll. If even one person would like to play I will run the game. FYI the shortest two are "A gate from the past" followed by the "Westchester house". After that "What goes around" is next.
