Dart fails in assisting Blastishy in his diplomacy check. Since Vrak feels (possibly incorrectly) that her soul has already passed on, arguments pertaining to her soul have no weight with her. But Blastishy was convincing enough that he still succeeded.

Vrak replies, "I appreciate your desire to rebuild our ancient empire. But as the little blathering on about a soul I no longer possess says, all I have left is honor. And my honor demands that I support my descendent, no matter how distasteful doing so may be. So unless you have proof that he is not my descendent, I beseech you to leave before we can no longer contain our growing hunger for life."

I'm guessing that Dart was trying to assist Blastishy. If he was trying to make his own attempt, let me know and i'll correct the above.

I think that Dart failing the roll is very appropriate since he's continuing pressing on the issue of souls and Vrak doesn't think she has one.

At hearing 'We' i beginning to actively look around for who else might be nearby. All sorts of threat of how i can prove it has a soul when i pull it out and feed it back to his friends as shadow energy goes through my mind but i keep it to myself. i keep my rod in the off hand getting ready to conjure my sword when this ghost finally break under the abuse and just attacks us. unless there literally just chillin nearby in clear view i doubt ill see them. i have a crappy perception

Llewelyn and Romra have seen something, but neither has posted about it yet. Tol is standing right under one of the things they've seen, which is why his icon is a bit different.

(given what Barbatos knows about magic and his companions, does he believe Vrak may still have a soul, and that he could proove such?)

Dart knows having a soul is required in all living things. He is not as sure about the man made or undead. But he is going to assume they both have a soul until proven otherwise. He figures assuming a creature has a soul does a creature without one no harm. He figures assuming a creature has no soul when in fact they do does great harm. So he figures it Is best to be wrong then to be hurtful of others.

Would it be possible to use Religion, or another skill I don't have, to determine if the ghost has a soul?

That would be two religion checks, one to identify what sort of undead Vrak is, the other to remember if that particular type of undead has a soul.

Vrak answers, "I am to keep all intruders out of the valley. I ask again that you leave while we can still control our hunger for your life."

Almost all undead have a great hunger for life. It usually takes a soul to restrain such hunger. Given the restraint Vrak is showing, she most likely has a soul.

Vrak is hard to identify, she doesn't seem to be Ghost, Spector, Wight, or Wrath. She's a very rare form of undead knows as Phantom Solder.

Phantom Solders are most often summoned by a spell. On very rare occasions they are found in tombs. Little is known about these Phantoms. In part because they can be summoned, they are believed to be soulless.

If Vrak knows what she is and was trained in Religion, this would explain why she believes she has no soul. She may be right, perhaps Phantom Solders do not have as intense a hunger for life as other incorporeal undead. Or perhaps she does have a soul and simply does not realize it. It will be neither easy nor quick to determine this for sure. And would it would require Vrak's cooperation.

In other words, it would be a separate skill challenge, possible only when Vrak isn't trying to chase you all out of the valley or drain your life essence.

It's fun when players push the story in unexpected directions. This slow format gives me time to research the issues (such as that Ghosts do have souls although most undead do not).

Dart has only a +2 in Perception. And Spot and Listen have been combined into Perception. 15+2 = 17. Dart see's no other threats other than the Phantom in front of them.

The incredibly silent elf looks around for a moment... slightly confused. He decides to speak up.
"Ummm... does no one else notice the shimmering around us?"

As a reminder, Llewelyn and Romra see some slight shimmering at G9 and K9 floating just over the heads of the group. Tol moved directly underneath the one at K9.

Joe i believe i have already gone this round. I used diplomacy and i thought I got a success, from what i could tell. Dart tried to help me but failed did that mean mine did not work and that i need to try again or something different?
