Just a reminder that I need everyone's character in some form before we can start. Also, it will help if you have a Google account so that you can access to current team status hereI don't think I have any of the current players as members of the campaign. If you aren't a member of the campaign, you can still see the characters, but you can't see the current character status (hit points, conditions, etc.). As for the new character replacing our artificer, I have the character of course (it was entered on my laptop). But have you decided what magic items and equipment you want?

Since so much of the group are going to be new characters, instead of handing out treasure, I'm going to say that the continuing characters get the same treasure as new characters. For Harknail and Barbatos, that means that they can pick a 5th level item of their choice.
So each character will have a level 5 item, a level 4 item, a level 3 item, 680 GP to buy additional magic with, and whatever mundane equipment they want to carry.

Hello all, I would be interested in joining this campaign. I just registered, and was sent to this forum by Harknail. I am an Old D&D player, and would like to get back into the game. I would consider myself a novice in light of all the changes that have occurred since I last played. I am also new to PbP, but it looks interesting. Let me know how to proceed!
Sincerely, rhinobullet

Hi there, Moonhaven is 4th edition D&D - Harknail (the DM) will likely contant you regarding the specifics of character creation via the messaging system (top right). Characters are 4th level and can pick their starting gear (subject to DM veto). Blastishy recently built one so can probably fill you in on the details. There are no specific rules for posting but generally OOC comments are in green, speech can be bolded to stand out, and the site has an in-built dice roller (dice=20) - using square brackets or the dice icon in the reply window. We are just gearing up for the next adventure so once you have a character name and concept you can jump right in. There is one other active game (3.5) on the site at this time and you can ask me or Harknail to set up a sub-board if you want to run your own. There is also a site bug that sometimes appends a number to the end of your post - just ignore it [rand=6949840256794836274128306814462658016952343617308027861017678783]

Just go ahead and make your character and posted to the character's forum here. If you are using any version of the character builder, please send me the character builder file to save me from reentering it. Once you enter combat, the status of all characters is available here. Anyone can see the characters, but to see their actual status you need to get an iPlay4E account (actually a google account), and send me the name so I can add you to the campaign as a player. If you don't have fourth edition rules available, just let me know. I have a large number of spare characters that I can quickly adjust to the correct level. Let me know what type of character you would like to play, and I can see what I have to offer. If nothing else I heard one of the other players could help you make a character.

Thanks to everyone for the info. This is my first time playing 4e Harknail. I have the DM guide and player handbook. I will look it over tonight. If I think I am having trouble, I will let you know Harknail. Are there any restritions on race/class I should know of?

Another question: When rolling characters, do you have a preference on the manner in which you roll abilities? Standard array, 22 point buy? Which?

No restrictions on anything in the PHB, the only restrictions are on setting specific material from the settings.
Stats are 22 point buy, or you can use any of the standard arrays (which you can get with a 22 point buy).

Ok. I am consdering a half-orc ranger. However, I am happy to make a character that fills a need

A ranger would fill several gaps in the party Currently the group has neither a striker nor a wilderness specialist, but they are about to strike out into the untamed wilderness... There may be some racial tensions, but his being a half orc may actually help in some of the encounters I have planned <evil grin>

I have a ranger rolled up. Question: what should I do about magical items? I see one or two of the players have a few items. I don't want to twink out, as that isn't my style, but also want to make sure I am current with the other existing players.
Thanks!

As a starting 4th level character you should have: 1 5th level item 1 4rd level item 1 3nd level item 680 GP to buy other magic items or magic expendables A reasonable amount of mundane gear (not counted in the 680 above)
By the time a character reaches 4th level, they have whatever mundane gear that they which to carry, as well as a few magic items.

Thanks. I had been rolling him as a 3rd level. I'll work on upgrading to 4th and equip accordingly. I'll have him ready soon.

Well i saw your build and i like it a lot, yet you don't need 2 +1 swords, the +1 does not stack for it is just a +1 on both attacks that is my understanding anyway. so you truly only need one magical one. yet having a back up is never bad but most are non magical back ups, saves some money that way. Like the armor btw one of my favorites cause it is very useful.
Fill free to jump into game. all you need to do is post your walking into town and the inn and we would meet up. Heads up my character is always standoffish and a bit skeptical of new people.
Ask At about our first encounter my character thought they were evil occultists at first (lol) .
Reason is for most have tried to kill him and he does not trust others quickly, but out of character it is nothing personal. More he is just a cop that has seen to many bad things and he has stared to lose faith in others. Once he knows u will not back stab him etc he will have no issues, he is not raciest just paranoid a bit.

Thank you for the advice. I am still new to 4e and it has been years since I played. I will live with the sword choices for now, and remedy that the next time I can purchase magic items. I am working with Harknail on my "introduction" now.

Actually your character does benefit from having two magic swords since a Ranger is often making offhand strikes.

Rather be lucky than smart! This brings up a good point though. I am very rusty, and 4e is new to me. Please feel free to PM or OOC advise me on things until I get up to speed. You won't hurt my feelings!
