"Do you see anything useful?" asks Ka'lion

She'll look to see where those other footprints go. She suspects that they go to the silvery thing in the middle and don't leave.

The footprints criss-cross the room and the area around the pool is most heavily trodden - as if someone was walking in circles following the spinning sheet of quicksilver, perhaps to examine it in more detail.
At the entrance Ka'lion can see that someone has entered the room here but does not appear to have left the same way.

"There is a portal in that room. Give me a few minutes to find it. Don't move. I don't want you to confuse the foot prints anymore then you have done already." said Ka'lion very carefully studying the tracks in the room. tracking and search - take twenty. = 25

tracking and search - take twenty. = 25 Ka'lion steps into the room and begins a slow and meticulous search for a portal (2 minutes per 5x5)Vadania watches on as nearby the large horizontal pool of quicksilver in the middle of the room continues to spin slowly on its axis, flickering in and out of existence in time to the raising and lowering hum emitted by the spheres.

"I think the portal is revolving," comments Vadania, pointing to the shimmering in the center of the room.

"I think the pool is the portal as well but I want to be sure and if who ever was here put down what ever they where carrying we may be able to identify them if we find them. The problem with going into the portal however is we don't know if we are closer to getting help or further away. And the portal may be one way." said Ka'lion as he continues to search carefully. If whoever used the portal had a familer it should of landed somewhere in the room.

Vadania responds, "Based on how the door lock was jammed, whoever went though though the portal worked both ways. He didn't want the door to lock while he was gone. That doesn't mean he was right, and there's still know way for us to know where this leads. For that mater, we don't even know if we should try to hinder his return. After all, it could be someone else fighting the demon, retrieving some powerful artifact hidden elsewhere."

"Then I guess I need to restore then door jam. But only after I finish searching for clues." said Ka'lion

"Sure, go ahead and look all you want." answered Vadania.

Ka'lion finds little more of interest in the room - there appear to be no other exits, no magical traps that he can detect, and no indication of where the individual went unless through the spinning pool.
If it is a portal however it's likely less than safe in it's current state - anyone caught as it flickers out or in might be in for more than they bargained for.

Are the fluctuations regular, to where one could get the timing and try to enter while the column is most there? Or is there some randomness to the ebb and flow?
Vadania adds, "Another thought is that maybe each use of the portal damages it further. Maybe the last use broke it to where he can't return. "

The portal appears and vanishes at regular intervals as the hum reaches its loudest point, though it is only visible for a couple of seconds each cycle - enough time to jump through but not to pass through slowly.

"Well it doesn't look like there is anything else to learn. Do we have any paper?" asks Ka'lion looking at the runes next to the mirrors. He wants to copy each of them down in case they can find someone to translate them for them.

Ylvas ears pick up and she peers towards the stairs uncertainly, though it's likely not one of the undead by her reaction.

Ka'lion moves quickly to force a hand Ax into the crack of the hinges - so the door can't be closed from the outside. Then he backs up into the corner of the room near the door. He draws the magic ax and the magic hammer.

Vadania follows Ka'lion's lead and takes position on the other side of the door with Ylva at her side.

Garrot approaches the tower, moving silently and attempting to blend in with the shadows. As he reaches the tower he sees evidence of steps leading under the tower, he hears the humming sounds from below and decides to investigate further. Surely there would be something of interest below. As he approaches, he draws his daggers and begins descending the steps slowly and quietly, trying to determine if there are any other creatures below waiting on his arrival.
I suppose I should do a spot check to see if I see signs of activity (like a rope hanging from the tower or footprints, also possibly a move silent roll, but at this point that may not be necessary for our purposes

The hanging rope is plain enough for Garrot to see, and does not appear to have been long here. Footprints are harder to make out amongst the stone ground but there are scuffs and scratches along the sides of the descending stairs where someone has prodded at them as if searching for something.
Below Vadania and Ka'lion can see a shadow cast down the stairs, humanoid.

I will begin descending the stairs, checking for traps as I proceed.
