Ka'lion finds the Ibixian as charred as the scythe, but drags him out into the courtyard all the same. The scythe itself is wrapped in cloth and carried out cautiously by George.
The group is not further disturbed by the undead, nor do they find any Ibixian alive as they unbar the gates to the keep to allow the survivors out and soldiers in.
The atmosphere upon their return is a mix of joy, hope, and morbid despair at the destruction and loss of life caused by the siege, increasingly evident as the sun rises. The party though are hailed as heroes for their actions and the people of Burr Town do what they can to provide comfortable accommodation and food.
The priest for his part soon lapses into unconsciousness, exhausted and weak from exertion but alive.
Around mid-day the group are approached by guardsmen who announce that the only surviving daughter of the old lord, Alara, hoped to thank them in person.
[Level up - all characters advance to level 4.]
(Racial paragon class advancements and bloodlines are permitted within reason)

George gets his tower shield and armor and gives back the loned armor. " Captian i found this ring on a dead body of one of your men." and he goes about discribing the face of the person. " Im not one to take from a family in need, nor form others who just lost thier husbind/father. If no one claimes it or does not belong to the army, ill take it with me when we leave. I need to see to the priest in the med ward please excuse me."

Character advancement moved to this thread (including notes for Ka'lion) kmansadventures.proboards.com/thread/8813/character-advancement-thread?page=1&scrollTo=83853The captain recognises the design of the ring. It is, or rather was, the signet ring of the old lord. He suggests taking it to his daughter. George finds the medical wing busy with the many captives and the healers have little time to talk, but accept any help they can get. Meanwhile Garrot has little difficulty locating someone to sell him picks - Burr Town had quite the reputation as a den of thieves.

( u mean garrot was looking for them lol,) george has already bought him a set and lets him know someone left a gift for garrot, So he should check his room first before he goes looking for things.
Its in a box with a bow on it, with a note May many more doors open along your path, signed, George. Its the master work tools he wanted.
I figured as much that we would not have time with all the people in there, but i do wish to talk with both of them when we do have the time. When he is not on duty George will seak out the daughter, and tell her that he found her family ring but wishes it inspected before she puts it on. For he does not know what is on the ring only that its magical in some way.

Garrot takes the box and is completely speechless (for once). He bows to George and says "Thank you! I sincerely appreciate this gift!'. He then takes the tools out and rushes off to find some locks to pick!

Back at the groups rooms Altar removes the armour he has been wearing for the past several days, by now more than a little battered, and sifts through the food they had been brought for something to his tastes.
"With luck Eldon will be able to make more of your book when he recovers, but the possessed Ibixian concerns me. The barrier that Eldon created would not have protected him for this long unless the demon wanted him alive - perhaps for another to collect, or perhaps to break down his will and take his mind."
He sits down with an apple, "in all this time it occurs to me that I have not asked you of the adventures and misfortunes that led you here"

" My path has been a long one, my father died when i was very young and i had younger siblings to look after, I did the best i could with what we had. my mom and dad were well off you might say, but tought me the value of others, hard work, honesty. I was angry he was taken so early in life and could not cope well with it and then traveling clerics helped me find my path. It let me deal with the path of death, and yes its yet another path one we all take in the end. My siblings grew older, and our mother had passed to the next life. At that point in time there was nothing to stay there for, and so i left. I sold our house gave the money to my siblings to do with it as they wish. I took my fathers shop in the form of the shop on wheels. I was in a way bringing him with me, but it was time to let him go. He always wanted his shop to do good for others, even the lost causes. Here was the best place for him to do so, i could honor him that way. I moved from place to place, never staying in the same place for long. For people would come asking me to fix thier issues in town or heal them etc. I did my best but they always wanted me to do more and more. Now I help other adventurers in thier quests. I take pride that I have solved many issues and shown people may paths they could take. I am a guiding hand when need be, others may take my advice, or they may not and that is not up to me if they do or don't. I can only tell what paths they have before them, I can not make them walk or pick the direction to walk in. I don't judge anyone for what they pick."

" what i don't get is how you knew the demon was already in him. Im a cleric and even I did not see any cause to think there was a demon in him. I worry there may be a traking spell on him, a curse or plegg maybe? Demons never do things without a reason, so im waiting for the other shoe to drop as it were. But why keep someone who could read that book alive? Unless the demon did not know we had the book and that we were coming to see him. I have found may questions so far, in time they will become clear. If you can shed any light it would be a great help consitering the situation."

Altar pauses to consider his answer before reaching for his sword, "this blade is called the 'shadow eater', created to slay demons", he looks down at the blade, "though that was a long time ago. I don't know if it is possible to restore it's power but it gives me some warning of such things."

"Well I need to find a druid to train me as Vadania has little confidence in herself as a teacher. So I'm headed where they are. After that fight it became clear to me that we all need a great deal more training then when have. So the party can find a druid to train me as we go or I'll head into the wilds to find one on my own. At this point I'm convinced that the sisters of fate in their infinite wisdom wish for us to delay that battle as long as possible. The demon possess nearly killed me with just one hit and I'm in the best health of this party. So I'm leaving in the morning. The party can come or not as they like." said Ka'lion, "My family are wizards or as we call ourselves back home witches and witch doctors and adepts. It's long been the custom of my family to try other classes before retirement. Reading is a wizard's main activity and it's best done when you retire. Now personally I've traveled in the wilds a great deal but have had an easy trip so far. I always avoid trouble when I can and only fight when I have to. You live longer that way. My father once said, Don't be a hero. Your not built for it and never follow any warriors lead. They will get you killed. War is the only thing they know and they may of been brainwashed into thinking killing is the only option you have. They also tend to follow orders blindly. He also said he'd be ashamed of me should I ever became a killer for hire. But as long as I lived a good life that was enough for him. My mother added, That would not excuse me from retiring as a wizard. We have a village to care for. So do you know where I can find a druid to train me?"

Altar turns towards Ka'lion, "i've heard many stories about the druids of the deep fell in my time here, the townsfolk have wondered if they were allied for or against the forces that had ravaged the lands. Though I had not know that elves were involved until I met your friend here" (nodding towards Vadania).
"From what I hear the druids of the fell are a secretive and superstitious lot with ties to Deviln’s Hollow, some even say that they have alliances with the lizardfolk of the deep fell. Before the siege several runners were sent out to the Hollow to ask for aid but none ever returned".
"If you travel deep enough into the fell I have no doubt that you would find one soon enough, if they wish to be found ... if something else doesn't find you first for the deep fell is a death sentence for the unready. And even if you do find a druid what then, what do you have that is so valuable that you could buy your way into their good graces?"
"Do you truly think that they will simply teach an outside their secrets because you ask?"
He shrugs and sits back before adding, "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing... though I think it is more often the indifference of those who hide behind them."
It's worth adding that Vadania has relatively little knowledge of the location or politics of the druids within the fell as she was raised by an aged druid outside of the deeper fell. However she was warned as a youth that the druidic councils are neither benevolent nor forgiving of tresspass or offense (the deeper fell is said to be a nightmarish place, of course both Vadania and Ka'lion have met one of the creatures that wandered out from it - the hydra)

"Well then, It's a good thing I'm not a good man. I'm just not an evil one either. I helped save the town, the bridge and the inhabitants. I've done it and in other locations but evil will always be as present as good is. I'm a reluctant hero when I have to be. But I don't have the skills to fight demons at this time. So I'm getting the skills. If I need to self train to do it. Thanks for your help. Now where did that horse wander off to." said Ka'lion before leaving. Once outside he turns into a wolf and goes looking for it. After getting the horse he starts to search bars and temples in town looking for a guide to find a druid to train him. A nearby druid would be best.

Sageaqua - assuming you find and convince a druid to train Ka'lion, i'm not sure what your intentions are. While the timeline of a game can be advanced it cannot be done for one character and not all others.
Simply put you have three options: 1) Convince all the other players to abandon the current storyline so that your character can train for however long he intends to. 2) Do something with your character than doesn't involve spending however many years in training. 3) Send Ka'lion off into the fell in search of druids and roll a fresh 4th level character.

Altar what you have done so is try to force him, his path is winding with many bumps, but in time he will find his own way, but on his tearms not yours or mine. He must go his own way and I knew that in the keep, it was when he grabed the weapon knowing if the monster used it the power of the weapon could kill the wilder as it did. That is the bravest thing i have ever seen in my life. That does not make him good as he said. Trying to force him on a path of good is a sure why to make them not wish to take it. A better way would to be talk to our druid about training him, it is an option for both even if they dont see it, but i do.

Altar considers Georges words, "I'm sorry. You've all risked your lives to help save Eldon for little personal reason. The truth is that the coming war against the demons that have risen up may be hopeless, the magic of old that once bound them is long gone from this land."
"But if there is to he a hope, any hope, then it must be to fight them before they are allowed to grow strong... but so few who are able are willing."
He turns back to Ka'lion to find him gone.
------------------
Outside Ka'lion finds the horse where he had left it, and that another runner is soon to leave for Deviln’s Hollow in search of news and aid - though the last Ka'lion saw of the barbarians of the hollow they were attacking Clearwater.
News also reaches him that others are looking for him - and the book.
