Hearing the word "chest", Garrot's ears perk up and he moves over to inspect.

There is nothing visible of a trap from the outside, and the interior is entirely hidden.

Vadania will stand watch while the others investigate the old container. It wouldn't be good to be so focused on that that something could sneak up on them. And besides, she's a bit paranoid about being ambushed...
She does say, "Maybe this contains something that can help fight demons."

"Take as much time as you need to pick the lock. Or we can toe it behind the horse but doing that would destroy anything that's fragul. All we need is to drop it off a cliff." says Ka'lion,

Lynette bends over to peer a little closer at it, "I don't know about towing, it seems buried pretty deep. Who knows how much this thing weighs."

Garrot will gently dig around it to make sure there are no other problems, and then will examine the lock to see if it is even locked, or if it needs to be opened.

Though it contains a locking mechanism it doesn't seem to be locked, just sealed and rusted shut.

Garrot will use his tools to lever open the chest.

"I'm disappointed. I was looking forward to dropping it from a cliff. As far as toeing it farmers have been using heavy draft horses like Runaway to pull the roots of trees out of the dirt for thousands of years. So they can clear area for farming but it is very hard work. Unless you own a few golem's or a trained elephant." said Ka’lion

Garrot finds the task more suited to a crowbar than the discrete tools he carries, but lacking anything suitable he instead resorts to tying rope around levers on the top and gathering the party to pull on them. With the aid of the horse the top opens with a screech and a loud echoing klang.
The inside is barrel-like, about a meter and a half deep and half submerged in water. There appears to be a flat bar or bench at the bottom and more levers, as well as the remains of partially rotted cloth at the bottom.

"Ka'lion tales a dry shirt puts it into the water and wrings it out repeatedly until the inside is dry., "This well take a while."

George hands him a bucket, tad bit faster using this, my i as what the point of getting the water out is? Aren't we running from drow and not staying here do to trolls?

There are rungs on the inside for Ka'lion to climb down to reach the water. A lot of floating debris come out in each bucket and beneath he can begin to see scattered tools and other objects, as if someone had once lived here.

Garrot looks down, his curiosity ever growing. "Do I have time to go down there?" He looks at the group with this question. "Looks like someone was living in this thing!"

Vadania doesn't expect the trolls to head in this direction - the terrain is too rough and they are upwind of the troll camp. The magic dust should also make them difficult to find, she still has one more use if she wishes to hide this location specifically.
Emptying out the whole thing with a single bucket will take time though as there must a thousand gallons of water in there and more may be seeping in, Ka'lion can see that holes have been punched in the 'back' of the barrel (relative to the hinge) to make space for some ornate decoration to be affixed to the wall.
Even more curious are the two lenses, each on separate mountings on the front of the barrel which appear to match the original interior construction. They seem similar to the spyglass Altar carried but are bent and affixed to the front wall with a complex hinging assembly.
Ka'lion scoops some of the junk off the bottom and hands the barrel out for the group to empty onto the ground - junk mostly, some coins of an unknown kingdom, cutlery, something that may have once been a shoe, three marbles, a few carved game pieces for a board game of some kind, a pair of battered and misted goggles, and a small wooden box with no lid and a blunt, twisted metal rod poking out of one side.

Garrot shakes his head and says "what in the world is all this?" He picks up the goggles and grins at them, wiping them off he puts them on his head in what he thinks is a jaunty fashion.

OOC: I think I know what we've found, but Vadania wouldn't have a clue.
Vadania will look at where the spy glasses come out on the outside of the shell, if that section is above ground.

They are buried like most of the rest of this curious metal hovel, assuming they come out at all. Ka'lions bucket work does uncover a spade though the handle is badly rotted - it might be possible to whittle one of the spear shafts to fit.
Vadania knows she could soften the earth and make it relatively easy to dig away, given time to prepare. As it stands now though it would take many hours of labour with a spade to clear it.
A lantern is lowered down as Ka'lion scoops out more water and debris. The bottom of the hovel gleams with scattered coins and objects but there is no sign of bone or remains. The light of the lantern picks out imperfections however along the sides where rents appear to have been patched over - odd, as what would rend the side of a buried metal box like this? Angry giant moles perhaps.
Seeing that it is safe Ka'lion can lower himself more fully into the water to look around, finding that a fixture on the front wall is some kind of door that hinges up to reveal what appears to be a barred glass furnace door, though the glass is entirely blackened on the other side and pushing at the frame doesn't budge it at all.

"Perhaps it was damaged before it was buried," suggest Vadania. "Some sort of small stronghold to hide from powerful attackers. Very powerful attackers if they were able to get though a metal box."
