Hello everyone! Ummm....it's been a very long time, nearly 7 years since I made the announcement that I was quitting KMan's. I've lurked here and there, checked in probably less than a dozen times and I'm shocked to see these boards are still limping along. It's impressive that something created from such casual origins is still around. I'll catch up to speed on the goings on, but I have decided to post today for a few reasons; - This place remains my archive for a lot of personal writing, hilarious moments etc and as such I like to keep it alive. - I made a few good friends on here and frankly, my refusal to utilize Facebook necessitates alternative means of engaging others of my ilk. - I'm feeling out of touch with my nerd roots lately... I only have a PS3 for Christ's Sake! - I think I want to try to get back into PbP gaming... For those that don't know, I'm K Man - as in the namesake of the boards. A looooooong time ago I created these boards in collaboration with a few local gaming buddies as way to game more often. What it became was a place to explore a deeper (albeit slower) pace of storytelling, a place to try new games both running and playing, a place to hammer out rules questions, even a place to share IRL joys and setbacks. Lately I've been pondering a come back to the boards to enjoy all of that again. I know I used to run 5-6 games simultaneously with posts every day and while I know for certain I can't do that again, I feel I can do at least 4-5 posts a week in one game. I think I've settled enough and am now more and more in front of a PC...plus these boards are mobile friendly! Crap, this tech wasn't even around 7 years ago...it's like I've jumped into Shadowrun mother-chummers! A lot has happened in the last 7 years, I have a kid, I have a mini-farm at my house, I have many new experiences I'll readily share as I get back into it. I've also had the opportunity to explore many new games in these last years; - Numenera - Pathfinder - 5th Edition or D&D Next - Eclipse Phase - All Flesh Must Be Eaten - Basic Role Playing (in settings other than Call of Cthulhu) - Hollow Earth Expedition - Shadowrun - and I'm certain a few others I'm forgetting at the moment I think I'd like to try some of these here and when I get around to it, I'll get a poll of those interested in what. But first I'm going to send out a mass email to the member base and see who responds. I'd love if everyone would chime in if they can and are interested in trying to get back into this - even if in a limited fashion.... And to everyone actively around, thanks for keeping it alive.

Welcome back! I expect you would be welcome in any of the currently running games (3.5, PathFinder, or 4th).

If anyone can raise the dead, it's you K-Man.
It's great to see you post here and know that you're doing so well. I am also a father now, and way more settled down at work these days - I think I could match your 4-5 posts a week in one game.
I still remember the parcel you sent me all the way from Denver. Zebra Cakes!(?)
I did cast around here for some PbP with the old guard earlier this year to no avail. There was interest, but it all arrived months apart and didn't get rolling. However, I have new hope now - who could resist a calling from the immortal K-Man?
I would be most interested in Shadowrun, Pathfinder, or Traveller.
I did consider a Dragon Mountain reboot, but so much time has passed, and 2nd Ed is sleeping so peacefully - I now think something new would be a better way to get started again.
And yes, well done and a big thanks to all the current regulars that kept this place going!

Hi Kman (and everyone else)! It's me, VemuKhaham, answering your call for revival! Great to hear from you again, the old master is back at his home. I'm glad you're doing so well, settling down with a family and getting your hands green. Is the kid a boy or girl? Elf, human or dwarf? As for me, I'm now living together with my girlfriend for some months already, and am teaching history at a school for kids with special needs. Things change... Different from you, ever since Kman's, I haven't had the opportunity to keep RPGing and exploring new game systems. I'm the rusty old man still acquainted only with D&D3.5. I can learn new stuff, but my nostalgic preference always inclines me to go for the good old stuff. That said, I'll hop on board again if you get a game going steady! I think my capacities to post are comparable to yours so that's good, and I hope to engage in some new creative gaming/writing! Now let's hope some of the others respond to this call too... TheUdjat! MenatKhufu! TheZebraShakes! Anyone else I haven't mentioned! -VK

Summoning successful.
I'm amazed this place is still here!
I'll do the recap of my time away at some point, but I am perpetually strapped for time these days, which also means I won't commit to being anything more than a lurker and watcher right now. But even that was fun around here.

I don't know about my powers of resurrection Spiral, but I do know it takes more than just one guy to get it going. I'm in if you guys are! And congrats on the kid! It's one of the most rewarding, yet wholly exhausting experiences I've ever had. I think we'll have to have a separate post for all the K Man's kids born over the years. (God, I text so much I have to watch my use of Smileys on here). And yes! I would LOVE to resume the overseas parcel package trade. I still talk about those damn Jaffa cakes! And yes, they still make zebra cakes in mass quantities here in the US. I'm happy to export some sugar your way. And again, I doubt my immortality...a bout of pneumonia about 3 years ago and several instances of slipped discs in my back will attest I'm anything but. But again, thanks for the kind words. I will try to come up with ideas for those systems...though I've never done Traveller. I've always been impressed with its sheer size at the book store...it kind of intimidates me honestly. Ahh Vemu.... my old Romar! I hoped you would answer. I'm glad to see you back old friend and congrats on the life changes. Sounds like you're making a difference at least. I have a special section in my heart for teachers (thanks to Merv) and I admire your work immensely. As for my kid, it's a girl. Her name is Kara and she is decidedly a half-goblin. That kid gets into more trouble than I keep track of. Again, I think a pic of K Man's kids has to go up somewhere. You should explore some of the new systems Vemu. Udjat actually is the one in my local gaming group (though he's still remote, he still plays every Wednesday with us via Google hangouts) that presses for new systems. - He opened my eyes to Pathfinder. Think D&D 3.75. They streamlined some rules, brought up the power of some forgotten or lame classes...seriously, read up on the paladin...and other improvements. - We'll skip 4th Edition...unless you REALLY like miniature games. Then 4th is for you. No story, all tactics and movements. - 5th Edition, which we started just recently, has kind of grown on me as a system. It's even more simple than Pathfinder; no AoO's, self -healing abilities etc. Though it steals heavily from other systems' ideas, it's pretty cool. - I fell in love with Numenera. If you get the chance to check it out, I highly recommend it. It's beautiful, simple, in depth and an amazing world just to read about. Very open sandbox. We'll get to a new game soon old friend. Hey guys, the version I'm most recently familiar with is 4th. As a setting it's brilliant. I love the gritty, dirty future, the cyber, the matrix and the meta-humans. As a table top gaming system, it's a little cumbersome. It has some very select rules that can often be hard to remember...look up the chunky salsa rule for instance....but I think in PbP it could be a great game. As I've mentioned, we'll have to get a poll started with some ideas for a new game and see what gets voted to the top. Glad to hear from everyone so far!

Ohhhh. Welcome back. If we can get TopTomCat to make a surprise appearance I can probably stop buying novels for a while . I really missed this place. But boy did I have to dig deep to find my password again...

This site was/is awesome. Unfortunately, way back when I posted much too hard and much too fast and kinda burnt out. I think Kman has the right idea of settling in to less then a dozen posts a week.
Over the years, I've gotten more into board games and could easily bore you for hours talking about them, but I still have a long running D&D campaign that gets played. I am also utterly in love with Fiasco, which makes sense as free form roleplaying has always been my favorite form of roleplaying and Fiasco adds just a little structure and setting to your freeforming to help you get great stories in a single session.
Its sort of weird to think about it, but I first started posting on K-Man's in between classes at Library School and now I've been a working as a Librarian for 7 years! Time flies!
Me and TheZebraShakes(tm) are still causing trouble together I'm sure she'll be on to say hi at some point.

Woah! This place is still alive I'm really happy to see that. I was a player in the 4th ed game (that is amazingly still going!) and slowly drifted away. Not sure if I'm up for joining anything going on (probably not, that's a lot to commit to and I've also drifted away from crunchy systems like D&D and pathfinder). That said, I'll mull around - thanks for the wake up call!

The D&D 4th Ed game has all its' players replaced a few times since you last played. It's also been subject to month long pauses in the past and life and work get crazy. I've been doing better lately though.

I will try to come up with ideas for those systems...though I've never done Traveller. I've always been impressed with its sheer size at the book store...it kind of intimidates me honestly. Obviously Traveler has changed a lot since I last played it. I remember it as having the smallest rulebooks of any system (though there were a lot of them available over time, along with board games set in the same universe). What I remember most about Traveler was spending a half hour rolling up a character with the GM, only to have the character die during character creation, never to be played! It's the only game I know of where your character might die before you even start the game (well, except for those games where dying is part of your characters background).

I didn't get an email. I still come around from time to time to read old stuff and make sure that people who are using the boards regularly, like harknail, have access to maintain the boards. Just been busy working/moving and have only been playing a little 3.5 Glad to see that everyone is doing well, and if anything interesting does get going, I may be able to commit to a handful of posts per week especially considering that this is all phone friendly

Shadowrun sounds great though i havent played it since the edition based on d6's.... not sure what that was? Possibly 2nd, a system I remember as being so complex in places that I spent a week writing a program to do all of the vehicle customisation calculations for me - right down to the extra cargo capacity from reducing leg-room and the speed/acceleration/load balancing for drive-by-wire

Shakes and Lin! Another pair I had hoped would show up! (Though I'm still not entirely unconvinced they aren't the same person. ) I still regret not getting together the one time I was in the NY. I was headed there again last year and then Sandy made it's way through...I think the fates just don't want me to ever get to NY. That or Shake and Lin are collectively demi-gods protecting their domain. And Wicksy! I still need to get across the pond some day and get smashed in a soccer pub with you fools! Good to see you too! And I think it sent an email to whatever email you registered with, which some people may not have anymore...I certainly don't have the same email any more. I'll get my new game post together here shortly. Give another day or so for people to check antiquated email addresses etc.

Hey hey. =) So pleased to see old familiar names, thank you for the call, K-Man. I was really excited when Vemu informed me about Kman's second coming, facebook can come in handy from time to time. Also happy to hear that you are all doing well.
I am in no way familiar with any of the games you have listed, but as long as the emphasis is on roleplaying, I will be more than glad to participate. My agenda may get hectic sometimes, but I think I can deal with 1 game at a time.
ps. When I logged in after years, first thing I did was to run an eye through The Shards quickly. Fond memories, and still wondering about the possible outcomes. =)
