I was able to sneak away and see the latest installment of Shrek this weekend with my girl and as per the trend lately, I thought about sharing with everyone.
It's freakin' hilarious.
Seriously, I walked out of there with my sides aching and jaw sore from laughter. For those critics that said it was funnier than the first, for the first time, they weren't lying.
Highlights:
1) The Fairy Godmother has a chauffer named 'Kyle' that has his name in stylized, glittery pink script across his chest. (I HAVE to get one of those.)
2) They mock many of today's popular movies in the beginning. (I.E. - Shrek gets his head dunked in a vat of mud and is hanging upside down, Fiona wipes the mud from his face and kisses him ala SpiderMan style. Or they're getting their ring forged and it flies in the air onto Fiona's finger ala LotR Style.)
3) Puss in Boots. Antonio Banderas does a great job and his lines are hilarious. In one scene, they mimic the show 'cops', but it's called 'knights' and they throw Puss against a wall and remove a small baggie of 'catnip' from his boots. He looks to the camera while restrained saying..."It'z not mine." (You have to hear the voice.)
4) The usual nuances are there from the previous movie. (As they ride around the kingdom of 'Far Far Away', you see signs for stores such as 'Versachery'.)
5) They make a giant gingerbread man that screeches ala Godzilla style.
6) They poke fun at life in general. The gingerbread man from above crushes a 'Farbucks Coffee' and the patrons run out of the building screaming, holding lattes, to the 'Farbucks' directly across the street. It's hilarious.
So anyways, just thought I would share my thoughts, go see if you liked the first one and animation is your sort of thing.
