Hello again!
As the title says, I’m going to be starting a new game here, and I was hoping to get some feedback on which setting to go with. Just select which game you would like to play in the polling area above. Even if you don’t have the time to commit to a new game, vote for which one you would like to see or read about.
Allow me to preface this poll with the fact that all of these systems are going to be built as homebrew scenarios with lots of player input. I wanted to do something different with this and couldn’t find a system to fit everything I wanted, so I made my own. Strong worlds are built around strong characters, so if you plan on playing, a lot of your backstory will be plotted out between player and GM and added to the overall storyline. If all goes as planned, it’ll be tons of fun and you’ll feel very real ownership of your character and the setting. Just remember what they say about the plans of mice and men… you have been warned.
Immemorial
It is an era of stone and savagery. Time moves very slowly for the Tribes of the Hoteoxyl valley. Things are as they have been, and the uneasy Peace struck between the tribes in the distant past continues to stand. Every seven years, the Peace is reaffirmed at the base of Hoteoxyl Mountain by the ceremony known as the Memory Walk. During the ceremony, the chieftains of the tribes gather and tell of their tribe’s part in the war against, and destruction of, the great betrayers, the Atlohtem tribe. The story is told so that the tribes will never forget the hubris of the betrayers, and what fate awaits those who would break the Peace. As the time comes again for the Memory Walk and the tribes gather at the foot of the mountain, disaster strikes. On the morning of the ceremony, the chieftains are found murdered in their tents and a message scrawled in their blood. It reads “The Atlohtem return.” Terrified, the tribes rally together again against the spectres of their past. Each selecting the epitome of their tribe’s traditions, they plan to send their greatest back to the place where they smote their enemy in time immemorial.
Based in a prehistoric sandbox setting where 3-6 players forge not only their characters but their tribes, Immemorial seeks to explore a mysterious world with only the most basic technology. Gritty and lethal, the lands through which the “chosen” must travel are uncharted and dangerous. Each tribe’s traditions will be put to the test in pursuit of their chieftain’s killers, and the Peace will be strained as ideologies and religions clash and grind against one another.
Blood and Powder
It is an era of imperialism and alchemy. For the past three centuries, the Empire of Hexenbourg has maintained its dominance over the continent of Kordite with fire, steel, and gunpowder. Masters of alchemical science, the Empire maintains strict order in its cities and colonies. For centuries there hasn’t been an enemy that their disciplined volleys of musket fire, devastating cavalry charges, thunderous cannonades, and terrifying alchemical devices couldn’t repel and annihilate… until now. Chilling reports of monsters rising from the ocean depths have begun to filter in from the far corners of the Empire’s colonies. One by one, the listening posts of the realm are being snuffed like candles in a storm. Panicked, the tetrarchy has called every available soldier to the front, intending to construct a “ring of iron” around the shores of their mighty domain.
Set in an 18th century steampunk setting, Blood and Powder focuses on a group of characters forced to fight a war that they had never counted on. Centered on a group of 4-6 characters, the story follows their struggles as they fight a desperate rearguard action against an unknown foe. Over the course of the adventure, the characters will wrestle with their political and moral views and decide the fate of a nation.
1948
It is an era of war and uncertainty. The year is 1948, and the world is wracked by war. Almost a decade has passed since the start of the Second World War, and the conflict continues unabated. Fueled by alien technologies, the great powers have renewed their efforts to defeat their adversaries and restore their own form of order on the global stage. The Allies, bolstered by advances in armored walker technology, are pressing into Northern Europe and getting ever closer to Germany’s borders. The forces of the Axis have responded by fielding terrifying experimental homunculi, and are even seeking to bolster their living soldiers with the ranks of the dead. Meanwhile, the fearsome Soviet Union has achieved its goal of absorbing China, and has lashed out into Eastern Europe, Alaska, and even made a beachhead in Florida from allied Cuba. With each technological advance, the outcome of the war becomes more and more uncertain.
Inspired by, but not wholly stolen from, the storyline of the Dust universe, 1948 is a mash of science fiction, steampunk, and military drama. The main storyline would be driven by 3-5 frontline soldiers tossed into circumstances beyond their training. Of course, the setting will feature alien technologies, adventure, and heroism, but also intrigue, military maneuvers, and internal dialogue.
