Quick reference - The fiend went east into the desert empire, and old and proud nation ruled by sorcerers and viziers that has faded someone from its glory days but is still vast and powerful, and which long pre-dates the westerly nations as a civilization. The sourthern desert lands are semi-autonomous, split from the main body of the empire by a particularly inhospitable stretch of desert.
Merebas lays to the south, a republic with a powerful religious tradition. Power there is a complex game of wealth and influence trading with everyone fighting over their slice of the pie behind closed doors, the rise and fall of the powerful played out in whispered conversations at official balls and traded over the tables of the church hierarchy and the ruling council of the mages guild.
Woldegard to the north is a feudal kingdom of territories ruled by individual lords and barons, all beholden to the king. A superstitious nation boarding on the teeth of the world, a great range of mountains to the north that dwarf those here in the Steadlands, home of all kinds of monsters and a great kingdom of ogres to the north east.
Beyond these nations are more distant lands - the relatively uncivilized and untamed western isles, the blasted wastes to the far south, the impenetrable forests and swamplands to the far east, and various other kingdoms and dynasties both large and small beyond.

(information added for the Silver Flame) -
As for the Silver Flame, they are an order exclusive to the Steadlands that control the monastery gate to the east. The monastery walls block the only easy trading route for caravans through the eastern mountains (the point at which the mountain range along the south of the Steadlands turns north) though the Silver Flame are not known to either prevent passage nor demand payment. The east road continues on into the broken lands and then on into the Empire.
From what George has heard the order largely disbanded years ago having been formed in response to prophesy of a great evil from the east. When the time came and the evil did not many of the warriors of the order struck out away from the monastery - some believing that they had misinterpreted the locations, others questioning the prophesy entirely.
The group is aligned with the gods of good and law, but said to be ordered around the Silver Flame itself, an artifact said to be the source of the original prophesy.
