The rest of the trip goes uneventfully, but at last they reach the Graythicket forest. Flerx easily follows Luthan's directions to the Owlbear's territory.
As you emerge from the Graythicket forest, the change in the landscape is startling as the trees end suddenly. The most noticeable feature of this barren landscape is its utter lack of life. The only things rising from its parched soil are the desiccated remnants of several dead trees withered by the unforgiving sunlight. Otherwise, only a few piles of bleached stones provide what little shelter is available.
You hear a woman’s voice—weakened, but still with enough volume to carry—from a small cluster of trees roughly 20 feet west of your position. Calling out first in Elven, then in Common, you hear the voice cry out, “Please help me! I’ve been in this tree for days, and I don’t know if I can make it much longer! Please!”’

The group easily finds the source of the voice.
High in a tree on the edge of this desolate area, you see a small woman—a gnome—clutching desperately to some of the smallest branches at the very top of the tree. She looks thin, gaunt, and frightened, and she peers at you with both fear and hope.
Zem asks, "We are here to help, do you mind if i ask why you are in a tree for such a long time? I heard owlbears are out here are they the reason you did so?"
Before she can answer, there a piecing screech echoes across the land. The woman visibly shivers at the sound. Even after the sound fades the woman hugs tightly to the tree, seemingly having forgotten the question.
[Tag, you can make skill rolls if you like to interact with her. Some skills to start with would be insight into her emotional state or Heal to evaluate her physical state. Other skills could provide info as well.]

Barbatos answers Zems question as he peers up into the tree, "yes, though it would be quicker to use the floating stone"
His thoughts on the matter are interrupted by the shriek and he looks around trying to get a direction for the noise.

The echoes make it difficult to determine a direction for the screech, but Barbatos can tell that is is coming from out in the dead area.
Stravanya can tell that the gnome woman is not simply afraid, she is paralyzed with fear. Her eyes dart back and forth across the landscape, constantly looking for signs of the owlbear.

We came here to defeat the owlbear. We have defeated a dragon and many other powerful foes. We would like to get you to safety.

The woman in the tree replies, "i'm staying up here where it's safe. i think it likes gnomish flesh. The moment I come down it will pounce."
Another screech echoes though the forest, Barbatos thinks this one is a little more distant.

To Zem: this poor gnome is paralyzed with fear. You should talk to her, as I'm no good with people at the best of times.

" I think first we need to see her medical condition, but its hard to do from this distance. I dont want to try to convince her to move if it will cause her harm she may have inturnal wounds we dont know of, tho i see your point we do need to calm her down. Now that i know her state of mind from you that helps greatly thanks for the info it is very key in all of this.
Given that it may be hard to get her down in her current state of mind. Its like talking someone off the ledge who might jump its not easily done. Fear intraps the mind and makes it do things that might not be in our best interest.
So i agree word choice and tact of words here is very important. I know i look like a good skilled talker but i was never this outgoing until i meet u all.
Thanks for helping me grow.
In turn it will help with getting her to safty."

Heal check for Zem: LXAKkErXp_1-20+14 =31
Even from a distance, Zem can tell that the gnome woman is both dehydrated and very fatigued. She is likely to be suffering from impaired coordination, and is not likely to be thinking clearly.
Zem can estimate how much food and water would be safe for her to consume without causing her to vomit, though there is still the problem of getting the food and water up to her.
Although she can probably not be talked down, you can still ask her other questions.1-20

Zem will tell the party his current findings.
" I know the amount food and drink she needs we just need to get it up to her. That way she can feel safe up there 4 now. I dont think my words will convince her to come down, she is too much in pure shock and fatigued greatly."
She is not thinking clearly meaning she wont hear what is in her best interest.
Ideas? "

"I could climb up to her," offers Harknail.
Anyone who wants to can try a Nature check to determine if the branches there could support Harknail's weight. He weighs considerably more than a gnome after all.

A nature check to see which of the party members could safely climb the tree:

Stravanya looks up and concludes that the branches there are not thick enough to support Harknail, but could support her weight. And of course the weight of Flerx would be no problem at all.

"I'll go. No offense Flerx but I'm worried she could find a Goblin startling." Stravanya takes the food and water, climbs the tree up to the gnome, and gives them to her.

" K, then Barbados will cast his flouting disk should one or u both fall if he can get it that High up. Wait a second why climb at all? does he not have his hand thing to just take it there ? It could just drift it up to her right with no risk at all?
Regardless, I need the rest of us to keep an eye out 4 our target should it ceatch our sent it my be far but no telling if it will head our way. I dont want it ambushing us."

As Stravanya starts to climb she notices Barbatos hovering and held aloft by the floating stone he keeps tied up within his backpack - a slightly comical haunch like a cat held by its neck but effective none the less.
The mage seems more distracted by whatever made the noise that the immediate concern of food and water but a little altitude seemed like a good plan and the gnome was small enough that the stone might hold both of them if needed without spending the time and reagents to summon a disc.

Stravanya makes the climb easily and gives the food and water to the gnomish woman.
The woman rambled, "Thank you. The Kenku I saw yesterday didn't help. I'm surprised the owlbear hasn't attacked you yet."
Another screech, sounding closer now started the gnome shivering again.
