Vadania is looking for things useful against the demon, while not really having any idea of what such things look like. The staff head was VERY useful, but didn't look like much. She'll start by bringing interesting looking things for Brenner to exam (with detect magic out of the dead zone), then bringing them back where she got them and finding more things that look interesting. She might also pick some things that look valuable to sale to buy other things.
She will scrupulously honer the agreement with the dragon for one thing for one body.
I was wondering if the dragon would want to travel with us :-)

Is it too intelligent for Animal Handling?

I was wondering if the dragon would want to travel with us :-) If you can convince him.
The dragon is indeed too intelligent for animal handling (INT 10). It is young and inexperienced by clearly to Brenners eyes not entirely naive.

The problem with picking up the dracon cohort feat is that we don't speak draconic, a requirement for the feat.
Vadania will try to explain the situation to the young Dragon.
That while at least for a while people will stay away from here because they are afraid of his mother, eventually they will realize that she is no longer being seen, and come to investigate. And unlike us, they might have no reluctance to kill a very young Dragon so that they can claim all the treasure.
The Dragon is welcome to come with us, but that isn't safe either. She thinks will be able to protect it from people we meet by explaining it's part of the group. But the group often gets involved in fights as we struggle against the demons that are responsible for his mother's death. And we will often get involved with flights helping others, which is how we got the supply of food for him. The Dragon will have to fight as well, but that will help it grow strong.
Vadania isn't trying to push the Dragon one way or the other, simply provide it the best information she can, so that the young Dragon can make an informed decision what path to take for the future. If Moriana encourges one path or the other in how she translates, Vadania wouldn't know.
Vadania is not assuming the Dragon is male, just referring to him that way until the gender is known (if ever). Seems rude to think of a sapient living creature as "it".

Being honest is wise here. Good approach.

The dragon seems to consider your words for a while, and then scurries back into the cave before dragging out a battered piece of thick cloth onto which it begins to place the bodies and other items from its horde. Vadania notes the edges of the cloth seem to flap as if in the wind though the air here is still... an animated object of some kind, clearly not impeded by the antimagic ward here. It seems that the dragon is packing. The problem with picking up the dracon cohort feat is that we don't speak draconic, a requirement for the feat. Never too late to start learning, provided you have two skillpoints to spare at 9th

Vadania will help the dragon pack. She'll improvise some saddlebags out ouf backpacks, and look for small valuables that the dragon would be able to use to buy more food once it's current supply runs out, or to be a portable hoard if that turns out not to be needed. She explains that the dragon will be able to trade these for more food later.
She'll also look for anything that might be useful, including anything that it looks like the dragon could use.
Random stuff is find for what we find, it's now as if we're looking for anything specific. I think the dragon itself is the most valuable prize here :-)

Neera will also poke around to see if anything strikers her fancy. But she already has the best sword and shield, and isn't' interested in armor. So she's not expecting to find anything.

Seeing Neera poking around the dragon repeats its insistance of 'one food, one item', though Vadania wonders whether its magical carpet will be able to carry all of the assorted items and bodies. Whatever the case it will take time which could be used to test items for magical auras.

Vadania continues to take items one at a time for Brenner to examine, then puts them back where she got them. She is being careful not to take more items than they had provided bodies. Neera is just looking, not really expecting to find anything. If she does, Vadania will include that in the groups items.

Terribly sorry, what is the way to identify magical items? Is it a cast of Detect Magic and waiting the 3 rounds for it to detect as much as possible?

As the dragon works and Brenner sets about with his initial detection Neera heads out to bring down more of the Khan bodies. How many the dragon will accept considering its size and the limitations of the magic carpet is anyones guess, and taking a mount of corpses through the open desert has its own problems that the wyrmling has likely not considered. Vadania and Moriana between them look over the assorted items for those most likely to be magical by appearance, though neither are particularly used to making such appraisals. Terribly sorry, what is the way to identify magical items? Is it a cast of Detect Magic and waiting the 3 rounds for it to detect as much as possible? Detect magic will let you identify something as magical, along with strength and auras, but not capabilities. Under these circumstances a half dozen or so items per casting - Vadania can gather up promising looking weapons, pieces of armour, jewelery, etc (or a mix), up to the number of times you have the spell prepared.

I've been playing 5e too much. I forgot that Detect Magic can't be cast as a ritual that doesn't use a spell slot by using 10 minutes to cast it. In that case we'll need to gather larger numbers of items to scan which actually have magic, while assuring the dragon that we'll put most of them back.
Gental Repose could preserve bodies, but that need to waitl till Brenner brenner change spells and would be limited on how many can be preserved. Maybe the rest will dry up into jerky. Would Vandania's Survival skill help with the sun presrving the meat instead of spoiling it?
Maybe we can find a portable hole that the dragon can use to keep it's food in? And maybe a bag or backpack of holding for us to carry stuff with.

Excellent idea on Gentle Repose, but yes, I don't have it yet - though you're right that if they're left in the hot, dry desert they'll probably dry up rather than rot away.
As for Detect Magic, I've got 2 casts. Each makes a 60ft cone, which would mean that 2 big cone-shaped piles are probably the most efficient.

Vadania can see that the dragon is watching their actions closely even as it continues to move items onto its carpet, no doubt an explanation would be in order if the group started piling stuff up outside of the antimagic aura. Then again once the carpet is loaded up and on the move all of the items could be detected together, albeit not as easily distinguised from the pile.

Vadania will explain that they need to move items to the edge to examine them properly. But that after selecting one item per food she'll move the rest back. She offers to show the dragon the items they choose so that it can confirm the count.

"Move back on cloth" replies the dragon. Vadania is unsure if its intent is only to save itself the work or if it wants to pay extra attention to how and why the objects are selected. Moriana notes that its efforts so far may have not been entirely haphazard as the items it has moved to the carpet have been from various places within what passes for its horde rather than from the edge, though how the dragon chooses the worth of its items is unclear. Dragon alignment lawful miser? Dragon alignment: dragon.

Vadania will happily move the items they examined and didn't select onto the cloth. That was easier than putting them back to where she got them from!

The dragon pauses its work and watches keenly as Vadania moves items out of the field, as many as possible without burying items beneath one another.
Once the first set is arrayed Brenner is ready to cast his spell (make 1d6 spellcraft checks)
