Aegis dizzily straightens himself up. "Anyone want to bet that SOMEONE heard something beyond the woods? We should fall back...they aren't exactly going to be replenishing their numbers anytime soon."

Bishop nods. It would take time to bandage wounds and recover strength, and until then a defensible position would be best, though he wondered at the fortune of their other companions.

Mika reminds everyone, "Remember that the Raven Roost is on the far side of a couple of hills. It sounded like it was at least half a day away from here. And the bandit we questioned didn't mention any other watch points between here and the Raven Roost. She was quite cooperative, so if I think there were more she would've mentioned them."
Mika continued, "I think there's no chance of other bandits hearing the fight, the only risk of more bandits would be if they're sending a shift change to replace these bandits. I think we can rest here, as long as we keep a watch for bandits coming from along the trail. If they do, we can ambush them."
[tag all, Mika is suggesting camping here.]
OOC: How do you want to handle only half the group still being active? Options I see are to have the inactive players head back to town for some reason, or continue like this battle, where they are dealing with some bandits off screen while the active characters deal with bandits on screen.

" Sounds like a better plan than any I've heard thus far. I'm fine with taking first watch if we're resting here." [I'd go for the latter, if only to make sure that we aren't overwhelmed.]

The group gathers anything worth selling, along with evidence that the bandits were killed. Moving a bit away from the massacre, the group makes camp for the night, spending the rest of the afternoon healing, caring for equipment, and making meals. With time to do a bit of hunting, the meals are better than just dry trail rations. Watches are set up, but the most exciting thing that happens during the night is the long conversation between Mika and Aegis. In the morning the group makes breakfast and then breaks camp.
The trail is easy to follow though the forest, but even after leaving the trees behind, the trail is still easy to follow. Everyone is fresh and ready for new conflicts.
OOC: All HP, spell slots, and other resources have been recovered. Spell casters can select their spells for today. You are expecting to encounter more bandits in the later half of the day.

My apologies to everyone.
It's past time that I admit that I'm not able to run online games anymore. I just don't have the time and energy anymore.
If anyone is still around and is interested, I can describe what encounters I had planned for the rest of the story arc.

I had just a rough idea of the future encounters, and didn't write them down. Now it's been so long that I've forgotton some of the details. But here is what I remember:
After passing the outer guards (the fight we finished), the travel would be uneventful till you reached the inner guards. Having an informant that told you were they were, you could have either bypassed them, or circled around and ambushed them from the rear. Either way you would have prevented them from alerting the main base.
The main base is an old mansion. Details of the futher encounters would depend on how the group decided to procede. But basicly I was assuming you'd pick off bandits a few at a time until you encountered the bosses. The bosses were a pair of tieflings, brother and sister. Unlike the tiefling mage and paladin, these evil tieflings give into their infernal urges without restrant. They are both masters of torture, which is why everyone is so afraid of them. The brother was a big strong fighter, like the male brigands but only more so. I don't remember if the sister was an archer or a spell caster, but the female brigands are hers.
In addition, there were some people who had been captured as slaves. They are forced to do all the work, and may even have been forced to fight (not that they would have been good at it). Needless to say, even if they fought you, they don't need killing. Any brigands you brought back alive would have been executed.
Any other questions? I'll try to answer if I can still remember.
I was really enjoying the romance between the PC and NPC tieflings :-) That was the first time I tried roleplaying romance.
Also, if anyone is interested, there are still 2 D&D games active on this forum. The 3.5 game has resumed (it had been waiting on me). That game only has 2 players, so there is room for me. We just added a second PC per player so that the group isn't mostly NPCs. The other 5e game has had some players drop, so it might have openings.
