The Official KMan's Sticky FAQ[/u]....eewww.
What's a FAQ?
- A Frequently Asked Questions list. Often times used for new people to a site that are not familar with terms or events on a site.
Can I join a Campaign?
- Certainly. There are always openings for something somewhere. You can check the Campaign Status Board for signups or closures.
How do I create a character?
- Each game will have specific rules on character creation. Usually the DM of any game will discuss the creation and other beginning rules (posting times, prohibited items etc) in a sticky thread on the main board section of your game. If there are ever any questions, consult your GM.
Where do I find information about my game?
- Standard games are divided into three boards; Main, Maps & Handouts, and Characters. The main board will house all the posts for the actual game itself; what the characters are doing, the current quests etc. The Maps & Handouts board is used for the player aids for the game. Maybe they need access to a map or a certain bit of information, it would go in the Maps & Handouts board. The Characters boards houses all the characters participating in a certain game.
What's the '32 Point-Buy'?
- Point buy is a method of ability score generation. Many methods involve dice---point buy is nice for online games because it's literally impossible to cheat. Each player is on the same power level, and it's easy to quickly generate scores.
A player is given a certain number of points, with which he can buy ability scores. The costs for each are as follows:
8--0
9--1
10--2
11--3
12--4
13--5
14--6
15--8
16--10
17--13
18--16
A 25-point buy wizard might look like this:
Str 8 (0 points)
Dex 14 (6 points)
Con 10 (2 points)
Int 15 (8 points)
Wis 12 (4 points)
Cha 13 (5 points)
Add 'em all up, and you'll find that the above scores require 25 points.
How much money/currency do I get?
- Again, up to the DM but the standard tables are presented here for your viewing pleasure.
Character Wealth by Level
NPC Gear Value
Are races, character classes or prestige classes from ___________ allowed?
- It is up to each individual DM to determine what they will and will not allow in their games. If you see an opening in a game and want to join, Privately Message (PM) the DM of that game for clearance to use your desired character.
How are dice rolled?
- It is up to a DM of a game to determine how dice will be rolled for that game. There is an online dice code available for KMan's Adventures if you wish to use that, but clear it with your DM first before using it in-game.
To roll a die on KMan's, the code is:
Where X = the sides of the die. If you want a d20 rolled, enter 20. A d6, enter 6 etc. Alternatively, the default die in use is a d20 and you can insert it into any post by pressing the icon.
Usually secretive rolls (Spot, Listen etc) are rolled by the DM and the results kept secret. All other rolls are usually out in the open. More information on the Die Roller can be found here.
How are Hit Points determined?
- At first level a character takes maximum hit points. Beyond this, it is a DM decision to handle HP. Some options are rolling with the random die roller; taking the average, high average etc. Be sure to understand your games' particular level-up method with your DM.
I don't have the book for the rules on __________ how can I get it?
- There is a handy page, The System Reference Document or often called the SRD. It is all three of the core rulebooks for the Dungeons and Dragons game and details everything but the experience table for the D&D game. Another fantastic resource is the d20srd.org project. It's a hyperlinked version of the SRD found at www.d20srd.org
If you can't find the rules for what you desire there, Privately Message your DM for the rules.
Can I start my own game?
- Absolutely. However, we do ask that every new DM please run a short adventure on The DM's Shorts to both prove their ability as a DM and to test the waters of running a play-by-post game online.
What's wrong with playing online?
- Nothing. The difference between playing table-top and playing online are significant however. Understand that Play-By-Post is very slow. A single battle or encounter might take a full week of real time to finish. If this pace is not for you or you feel you could not participate in a game of this speed, we recommend you try it once on a limited basis--perhaps participating in a Short. If you still cannot play at this speed, there are many other ways to contribute to the community.
Do I have to Role-Play on the boards?
- No. KMan's Adventures is simply a community of people online. You may post on the Writings board with original stories or artwork, or simply enjoy the light-hearted debates and information that is often shared on the Community board.
I've never played before, is that a problem?
- No. The community here is understanding and will help any player/DM of any level of experience learn to play or enjoy playing.
Can I post my story, artwork, poem, idea or political rant?
- Absolutely, in fact it is encouraged. You may post stories, poems, art and the like on the Writings board. Pieces there are usually critiqued with constructive criticism and you'll find the general populace of those reviewing are very encouraging.
What's allowed in these 'original' pieces?
- Anything with the caveat that is is in good taste. Cursing for emphasis, mature situations and the like are accepted but obscene material will not be allowed. KMan's does not encourage censorship but we also do not discriminate on age, so please be considerate of viewers that may be of younger age.
Are games other than D20 D&D allowed?
- Absolutely. If you wish to start your own game with a different system, you may do so with enough support and after running an adventure in The DM's Shorts. Keep in mind that if you are the only one with the rules, it may be difficult to run.
How often or fast do games run?
- Games are running all the time and at the residing DM's discretion. The general rule is 24 hours between posts, or as fast as everyone responds if the DM can. The frequency with which new games starts depends on the influx of new members to the boards. The more members and new DMs, the more games get started. That's why it pays to bring new people to the site constantly.
I saw something funny, great or whatever on here. Can I link to it, cut and paste it etc?
- Yes, but keep in mind that all original work here is copyrighted by the posting author so please give credit where credit is due. The penalties for copyright infringement have become more severe over the last few years and we'd hate to find pirated work from KMan's Adventures somewhere else on the net without credit.
Why KMan's Adventures?
- I, Kyle, started these boards with the intention of just playing with a few friends online. My nickname is 'KMan' so hence I called it KMan's Adventures. It has blossomed into something beyond my wildest dreams and I just haven't changed the name. If you think of something better, I'm open to suggestion.
What if I leave for a while? Do I have to forfeit my characters?
- Again up to te DM, but most are understanding with a bit of notice. We have had players leave for several weeks on end and it's just understood their characters become NPC's for a time being. If you do not post within 3 days without any warning or notice, you do run the risk of forfeiting your rights to play. In the former case, if it is an family death or emergency, I think you will find most DMs are extremely reasonable and will allow you take all the time you need.
