The party hold in this new room as the sound approaches seemingly guided towards them by some sight or sense. Instinctively it feels that they have only moments until whatever it is reaches them - just enough time to position themselves or to flee.

Brenner will position himself to the back of the group.
No sense running. We'll lose the entrance and if we can't take on whatever's here, we probably won't fare better against whatever's deeper inside. Unless this is a labyrinth-minotaur situation...

Vadania feels the same way.
Neera goes to the front, her magic shield floating in front of her, ready and eager to fight.
Ylva moves forward to join her, to help keep the enemies off her friend and master.
Vadania moves to cover the rear for anything bypassing the front line, since unlike the other two casters in the group, she can fight in melee even if not well.

The first sign of the approaching creatures are eyes glowing red through the shadows, followed by dark stormcloud-like bodies that whip around formlessly, seemingly drawing the air towards themselves. The party barely has a moment to descern their nature before the creatures rush towards them with a burst of incredible speed.
There are four of the peculiar creatures in total, the closest emerging from the shadows almost 70 feet away from the front ranks of the party (depending on how forward that is Brenner may be as far as 40 feet behind at the far side of the room)
Roll any suitable knowledge checks for identification and any passive detection magic/items, and initiative.

Brenner recognises them from an obscure treatise on elementals that he had once studied - the creatures are voidwraiths, undead manifestations of air elementals. His knowledge of their vulnerabilities are limited beyond those common to undead, but unlike normal wraith they are creatures more of elemental than negative energy.
The first of them rushes silently in towards Neera, the closest of the party, and as it closes the atmosphere around her seems to be drawn away leaving a vacuum without without sound or air to breath. The others here the same whispering that had alerted them earlier but louder now as the air is twisted and sucked away by the wraiths passage.
Blows rain down on Neera with little force, nothing that can overcome her lycanthropic protections, but her armour is of little protection as the undead elemental seeks to pull the air from her very lungs. (no damage, but Neera must hold her breath while near the elemental and must make a DC15 Fortitude save or suffer 2 CON drain and lose two rounds of held breath)

Ylva leaps at the wraith finding little purchase on the gasseous creature, still her enchanted fangs do seem to have some effect in so much as the thing briefly recoils from the attack. Like Neera the wolf finds the air thins away to nothing in proximity and Vadania can see that her companion is confused and somewhat panicked by the sudden inability to breath.
The remaining wraith rush forwards drawing more air from the room and Vadania, Brenner, and Moriana are all consumed by an airless silence as they are forced to hold their breath.
A strike aimed at Brenner goes wide but Vadania is not so fortunate, despite her magical protection the wraiths insubstantial attacks are little affected by her armour as it tries to suck the air from her lungs (2 damage and DC15 Fort save to avoid 1 point of CON drain and loss of 2 rounds of breath)
Moriana for her part launches a hail of magical bolts towards the wraith already engaged by Neera and Ylva seeking to cut their numbers down quickly, though unsuccessfully, before throwing up a magical barrier as another rushes towards her.
Neera and Ylva are sharing a wraith between them that is looking somewhat unstable after the combined assault, everyone else has been chased down by one - the worst of the airless aura does not seem to extend far from each wraith

Yes, unless it has no somatic components.
But you can cast defensively (Concentration check DC 15 + the level of the spell you’re casting), or take a 5 foot step back first and hope that the voidwraith doesn't have reach.
Of course you can't cast anything with verbal components while adjacent to the voidwraith in any event due to the lack of air.

Defending himself as best he can Brenner looks around for help, unable to call out and finding each of the others similarly besieged.
