On advice from two good friends of mine, I rented Equilibrium yesterday. Watched it this morning (I got bored with Sat. morning cartoons, so...;D)
WOW.
Set in the future, after WW III and IV. To put an end to war forever, mankind outlaws emotion. A new drug, Prozium II, is developed to biologically eliminate feelings from humans. Take two doses per day, feelings away!
But the cool part is yet to come.
John Preston is a High Cleric of the Grammaton (the governing body of the new world order). He's in charge of keeping the status quo---hunting down "sense offenders," burning the contraband, and eliminating the growing underground resistance.
But how does he do this?
Well, through extensive statistical analysis of gun battles, the military has created a fighting style that increases combat efficiency by at least 120%---and is SO cool to watch.
Preston misses a dose, then hears some Mozart...well, for the rest, you'll have to see it. It's like 1984+The Matrix+Hero+...etc. It's Tight with a capital T.

Wizard, I've seen Equilibrium and did think the fight scenes were well coreographed and overall very exciting...however. I used to live with two roommates, (One of which was CaptainStinky from these boards for those of you that remember) and they somewhat spoiled it for me. This was right after either the second or third Matrix was out in theatres and I come home to them saying, quote: "Dude, Equilibrium is sooo much better than The Matrix! You'll being saying that after you watch it."Well for those of you that don't know, I hate when people tell me what is better than what so I with my curiousity piqued, I obviously checked it out. Picking it up at the video stoe, I noticed that even the cover said something to the effect of, "Look Out Matrix, Equilibrium will blow your mind..." Overall, the story was relatively flacid to me. I had an easier time believing The Matrix and the 'humanity restart' instigated by the machines rather than mankind outlawing all emotion because of a few wars, even as acopolyptic as they made them out be. So yeah, to sum up... In my opinion, a decent movie, but about one fifth as stimulating as The Matrix. Korone, That flash was great. I wish I had seen that when I encountered the discussion above with my roommates.

You'd think that a complete lack of emotions would only lead to more wars.

Well, the flash WAS funny, and I'm apparently alone in my praise of the movie---I brought it to thrawn's birthday party last night (he's 18 now, doncha know), and it received a stale response. Admittedly, Neo would beat the crap out of Preston, but that doesn't stop it from being a fun movie to watch. Whatever---I loved it.
