After finishing their last minute preparations, the group gathers Sart and returns to the home of Curuvar the Brazen. Curuvar and Bharash work together to cast the endure elements ritual on all nine that will be searching for the tower. The ritual will last a day, Bharash feels confident that he can renew the ritual if they aren't back by then.
The trip starts off as a nice walk in brisk weather. Following the path that leads to the villages located within the Ridge Woods (shifter and elven), getting over the ridge is no problem, though the path goes quite a ways from the ocean before it angles up the side of the ridge and down the other side. The sky is overcast and the wind is cold, even here in the forest.
It's not too much further that the group finds... snow. In the middle of summer. A half hour later they find themselves trying to find their way through a full blizzard. The snow comes at you so fast that it both blocks sight and somehow threatens to mesmerize you with its chaotic patterns. A deep chill pervades the area, as well.
This is a skill challenge, you need 8 successes before 3 failures. Primary skills are:
Acrobatics to help guide the party over hazards such as icy patches of ground and though sudden gusts of wind that would otherwise knock people off their feet.
Arcana to determine if this is a magical storm and if it is, to determine where the magic is coming from (presumbably the tower).
Athletics to help foce a way though the storm using brute strength - breaking a path through a snow drive, moving follen trees or jumping over them, etc.
History (only once) to remember some detail about the tower or discover a unique landmark to help orientate the party
Nature uses knowledge of the area and the ability to study the terrain, an innate sense of direction and wilderness survival to help guide the party.
Perception to find a safe path, avoid hazards, etc.
Heal doesn't help find the path but can prevent the lose of a healing surge from a failed roll.
The DC vary, and some of these checks have a penalty of losing a healing surge on failure. Pick one you like and roll.
Also, everyone needs to make an endurance check for being out in this storm. It's partly magical, so even though the protection from elements helps a lot (reduces DC by 5), characters could still be affected. A success here means that your character didn't lose a healing surge.
Feel free to embellish your skill rolls with text descriptions of what your character is doing :-)

Gabe pauses for a moment and closing his eyes concentrates. He has rarely called upon his arcane powers but he is sure that this is no natural storm so he uses his connection with the Arcane to seek more knowledge on the cause of the storm. He hopes that such knowledge will provide hints on how to more easily avoid or dispel its effects. He barely seems to notice the blizzard or the deep chill as he stands still and concentrates. Arcana check for Gabe Endurance check for Gabe [rand=59257734148454213388545927140828406288265251426145974486546860452]

He hopes that such knowledge will provide hints on how to more easily avoid or dispel its effects. Gabe recognizes that this is fey magic at work and that some of the blizzard might be illusionary. Also he senses what the direction the arcane energy powering the storm is coming from. 1 success.
Insight skill is now unlocked and available. This skill will let you recognize which obstacles are illusionary, and can help the group from traveling in circles, and avoid paths that look safe but are dangerous.

Zynthis growls at the storm and vows to push through it no matter what. Athletics [dice=20]+7=13 Endurance [dice=20]+2=13
Heal if Endurance fails [dice=20]+9=19

Zachary will take his shot at History and Insight: [dice=20] | +11 | = 25 History | [dice=20] | +7 | = 23 Insight | [dice=20] | +2 | = 21 Endurance |
Gee, I hope that's enough. I can also fake Religion and Nature, if necessary, but I would prefer to leave them to those who are actually trained in them. I also am quite good at Archana, if another roll is needed at some point. I'm probably going to wish later that I hadn't blown my good rolls on this. Weird pattern on the numbers, though.Meanwhile, Zack will be lecturing (to anyone who will listen) on the results of his research into the history of this region, pausing occasionally to ponder if the scenery looks different than he remembers (usually out loud). So long as no one tells him to shut up, he will assume everyone is interested in what he has to say (or at least not annoyed by it).[rand=6792349618927892421815001126222574680977683064038414716469984396]

Zynthis plows though the obstacles while Zachary's knowledge of the history of the area lets him point out the right direction even though the blinding conditions.
Clarification: Each turn should include an endurance roll and one other skill roll of your choice. The Heal check is in place of making progress (and wasn't need anyway yet). Gabe still needs to make an Endurance roll.

Actually I added an endurance roll to my post shortly after posting. It's hidden in the spoiler along with the Arcana check. You must have checked the forum right after my post to have seen the arcana without seeing the Endurance. Yep.. ya post is at the same time I added the Endurance roll :-)

During one of the hardest wind blows, Thursagan will plant himself firmly in the ground, and with slow and solid steps will guide the group until the burst fades Athletics: Endurance: [rand=030284874141216278881232308223843662782603222876794854908278211951]

Laira Elereth calmly ignores the storm in front of her and focuses on what strange magic could be the source of this unusual weather, and weather she can remember anything else important about this region. Zynthis's blather oddly enough seems to be a good distraction from the illusionary cold and winds. Endurance: [dice=20]+5 =14 Arcana: [dice=20]+9 =17 History: [dice=20]+6 =24 Religion: [dice=20]+6 =21 Insight: [dice=20]+8 =16 [rand=43873815446432585001419116099443562577936603412201617660057676386953]

Although the storm was clearly of magical origin it behaved very like a natural storm now it was conjured.
Bharash had studied storms whilst researching thunder magic and hoped that knowledge could come into play now.
Nature [dice=20] +7=16
Endurance [dice=20] +4=8[rand=4134673880404162457958401689319001097605696724614333205871706]

Thursagan almost falters, but pushes on with dwarven determination. Laira also determines the source of the storm and uses this information to guide they party. Bharash instead used his knowledge of nature to find the easiest path.
All Succeeded at their attempted tasks. Thanks to the Endure Elements ritual, all make their endurance roll.

Sart makes no attempt to lead the party, just following along and doing as she is told. Sart survives the harrowing trip into wild outdoors. Harknail rolls: Insight | [dice=20] | +8=23 | Endurance | [dice=20] | +7=18 |
Alerted that the storm is magical, Harknail uses his insight to determine which obstacles are real and which were merely illusion. He easily endures the rigors of the storm.[rand=4753980070818215646945310849696456841403385624296956885422114283]

Sorry, new babies and family in town to visit are distractingThis blizzard is powered by arcane magics you say? Perhaps then there is a flaw in it, and the forces of nature will provide us safety if we just know where to look. Nature: [dice=20] | +10 | 21 | Endurance: [dice=20] | +1 | 2 |

You forgot to add 1/2 your level to your skills. Not that it makes the difference, here.
