Popol has a spare rope which he produces if needed, but he has no experience tying up animals and decides to leave that to others. A question for future reference, can I use Healing Word out of combat to enhance surges, or is it combat only? I'm being kited from my computer the last couple days but I'll check in as much as I can Tol can use the rope to tie up a third drake, he seems pretty good at it. Yes can use Healing Word out of combat to enhance surges, but then you need a second 5 minute rest to recharge Healing Word. Normally I would have suggested that, but in this case the drakes will be waking up right after you finish your first 5 minute rest, when they spend their healing surges.

Llewelyn thinks about the drakes that they just fought...
"What do you plan to do with the remaining living drakes? Although I have never seen this particular type of drake before, the way they were acting indicates that something else was influencing them."
Nature check for knowledge on drakes (checking for known oddities or other known instances of "rabid" style drakes): [dice=20]+10 = 12
Knowledge about possible sicknesses and whatnot that would cause something similar to being rabid: [dice=20]+10=21 [rand=051494345559130572874183479619202390168776041211865220433763879913]

"Dart you are right in saying they have magic on them but you came to the wrong conclusion as to the type of magic. I have had extensive time to fully understand and comprehend the ways of magic yet i can't cast spells and that has always saddens me but that is not the matter at hand. Some thing or some one was controlling them. forcing them to do its bidding they were not acting with in their own mind. that is way talking to them failed because they already were acting through someones mind control. What ever it was is is truly powerful to have been able to do that to them, the question now is what. maybe the wizard will know. do you know were the wizard went off to he may know more then i do

Barbatos peered into the house, "hello? we've tied up the drakes, you can come out now".
Didn't sound all that convincing, even to his own ears, but that didn't matter as the other townsfolk would presumably be along in their own time to assess the damage. Making his way around towards Harknail, "they look fine to me". Barbatos shrugged and looked towards the drakes, "no different to a flock of wyverns or a pack of wolves, just passing through looking for food, you'd think a place this size would be better prepared."[rand=235067557494912542819787493703344697706820841423343251270261622876]

Llewelyn approaches Barbatos "At first, yes they appear no different. But these drakes fought viciously and to the death, normally if they were here only for food, they would try to leave once their lives were in danger.

Dart looks around, "Your right, animals only rarely kill each other in mortal combat. Most of the time once the alpha of the fighters has been decided the loser is chased off."

"Barbatos how powerful of a thing that know magic would it have to be in order to do something like control drakes? I only ask because I have detected that they were being controlled by magic. It was very powerful from what i can tell. they did not run because their master would not let them and told them to fight instead of run."

So it was not I compelling them to attack. as far as a clearer read, i got powerful transmutation magic aura. not one of us knows that kind as far as i know.About how far away would one have to be to still be able to compel them to attack and how long would that spell last for?"[rand=137321634916588663574740041512996299069995060563104013100988231599]

Popol finds magically controlled monsters intriguing, and tries to remember if he's ever come across anything similar.
I'd like to roll for History, to see if Popol has ever heard of anything like this occuring in this region before, or if he knows of anyone who has done similar things with magic in the past

I can give it a try." said Dart Dart now that he's left the rest of the carving to the ranger is going to try an arcane knowledge check on each of the living drakes and I'm going to take 20 for each roll - 20+4+4 = 28 each roll at least a take 20 is possible in 3.0 and 3.5

Llewelyn doesn't know of any similar behavior of drakes. He knows of several diseases that increase aggression. (As a GM, I've seen them, but I don't remember their names).

I'd like to roll for History, to see if Popol has ever heard of anything like this occuring in this region before, or if he knows of anyone who has done similar things with magic in the past Popol can remember many stories of such things, though they are normally sentient things that are compelled, not animals. For example, using an Adjure ritual on an immortal. Popol doesn't know of all of the rituals that exist, but he does know that Rituals can have long lasting, or even permanent effects.

Popol can also remember that in the stories of Warwing drakes, that they were quite well trained, intelligent to the point of being nearly sentient, and that they could understand verbal directions from their master. The dragonborn empire was full of magic and wonders, although the stories don't say so, it's possible that this training was done magically.

It takes 5 minutes before you can attempt to sense magic again on the same object, so that would be an hour and 40 minutes. You don't have that much time before the situation changes. Also Dart is carrying on this conversation for a task he's committed to finishing (he's already rolled the result). He hasn't finished skinning the drake yet. So no, you can't take 20 on this.

ooc: Dart rolled - the ranger rolled better and more then that they are in each others way. It takes only one person to skin a pig - I did it as a boy - once when I was in future farmers of ameraca in high school - I've also skinned 200 chickens - that took 40 minutes or less - to skin fifteen pigs took 30 minutes - that's all. - Dart and the ranger should be finished by now.

You are skinning something the size of a horse! And it has an unusual body configuration, you need to figure out how to work around the wings. I thought I was being generous letting two people do that in 5 minutes. The 5 minutes is important because that's when you get your encounter powers back, those spending healing surges get them back, and the drakes wake up (as they spend their healing surges).

OoC: skinning an animal takes less then a minute - a cow less then 3 minutes and a pig fulling grown is nearly as big.

ooc: I don't think we get surges back, just the powers that use them. Also, how much time has past?
Llewelyn will observe the drakes if they are waking up.
