Sorry for late reply, been sick and had to play catch up in school x.x Rolan moves to speak with the party. "If the survivors are able to, it would probably be best to start heading back to town. We'll probably need to set up camp early, but it would probably help calm them if they felt they were getting away. I am also curious as to what this 'armour' they have is, and if it is causing them to be targeted. Salyyn, you seem to have a bit of knowledge of magic, do you by chance happen to know if any magical curses could be drawing the creature?"

Vadania will take a quick look for any berries nearby. If she finds some, she'll harvest a handful and cast her goodberry spell on them.

Vadania will take a quick look for any berries nearby. If she finds some, she'll harvest a handful and cast her goodberry spell on them. Vadania finds a few suitable berries as the group leaves the valley. [dice=4][dice=4] - seven berries enchanted She also notes that Salyyn's silent companion has not sought aid for their injury, nor do they show any ill signs from it. Perhaps their robes conceal some armour sturdy enough to defeat the creature's blows. Night is beginning to close in earnest as the everpresent clouds thicken once more overhead. Fortunately the merchant party appears to have several lanterns among their possessions, though they choose to light only two.[rand=8804501823366152856960628901130445183947175532113807046111626519]

Vadania will suggest that the surviving merchants rest, but if they want to continue though the night Vadania will continue with them.
At dawn she'll pray again for the Goodberry spell, but switch the Entangle spell for Shillelagh. The Entangle didn't seem to have much effect on the shadow beast, and she wanted to be prepared to fight it again if it returned. This time she won't wait till someone is hurt before casting goodberry, but will rather be looking for berries right away.
Switching spells might be the wrong thing since you've mentioned a big fight, but it's appropriate for the character.

Again, sorry. School is being a pain with demanding that I do things. Something about grades.
Rolan doesn't need much for preparation. He's got his (almost) trusty rapier. He's going to look around to make sure people are (relatively) fine, help if needed, then get some rest.

The merchants, exhausted by their flight, soon relent to the suggestion of rest - but not until the sun rises.
There is no more sign of the shadow creature but the unnatural weather overhead continues to concern Vadania.
As they rest and eat Rolan is able to coax a little information from the guards - the armour they carry is of Woldegard steel, crafted and fitted for a noble of Merebas which explains the caravan's use of the backroads. The penalty for arms trading of this nature is death.
8 hour rest, last chance for Salyyn to fill out his spellbook

The group's rest is uneventful and the party continues at a brisk pace towards Clearwater throughout the afternoon. The weather is dry, if cold and misty, though dark clouds continue to circle overhead as they are blown in from the east.
Dusk closes in and the foliage around begins to change as the group leaves the marsh of the deep fell and Salyyn glances back as a rare glimmer of light pieces the clouds and shines upon the fell. Movement - figures upon the road. You were being followed.

Salyyn will ask the merchants they saved, "Is there anyone else from your party we left behind? Someone perhaps who wishes to catch up?" He nods toward the figures following them in indication.

"Is there anyone else from your party we left behind? Someone perhaps who wishes to catch up?" The man shakes his head "no, the creature killed them all". It's difficult to make out much in the mist and darkness, but the newcomers appear to be human, or human shaped, not the lizardmen who occasionally attack from the fell. Whoever they are, they will be on you in minutes.

"Then we may have a problem coming." Vadania regretted changing her prepared spell, an entangle would help greatly against a mob. She looks to see how they are moving, are they moving normally or shambling like zombies? Vadania will also sniff the air if the breeze is blowing in the right direction.

The figures are moving at a slow running pace, stooped over somewhat but certainly not shambling.
A glint of light here and there is reflected from metal carried by the figures, blades and armour strongly reminiscent of that carried by the merchants.
Vadania has never seen a zombie before, but she has heard stories of such. Around her the wind falls dead and a familiar cold begins to close in.

The sight and unnatural cold is reason enough for the merchants to turn and run once more, perhaps hoping to outpace their pursuers.

Vadania will follow the men. Running away from a fight that could be avoided seemed like a good idea to her. But she'll keep looking over her shoulder to see if the pursuers were gaining on them.

Vadania turns and flees with the merchants, quickly catching them and leaving just Salyyn, Kenny, and Rolan standing their ground.
In response the figures in the distance pick up their pace. Salyyn determines that if they are undead it will not be a matter of if they catch the group but when, unless they are somehow bound to the fell itself.

"Come, human. We must try to find a defencible position. There is no escape." Salyyn says as he turns to follow Vadania.

Salyyn and Rolan run after their new companions, but a quick glance over the shoulder does indeed confirm Salyyn's initial fears - while the figures chasing them are not gaining ground they seem able to sustain this higher speed.
Ahead of the pair Vadania has been seeking to gain a better sense of the group's location, having just passed this way a day before, remembering a shallow but fast flowing ford not far ahead.

OOC: What effect would a shallow but fast moving stream have on our movement?

OOC: What effect would a shallow but fast moving stream have on our movement? (you would have to ford it slowly or risk slipping and falling on the wet rocks ... though there is more to it, i'm just waiting for all players to be ready)
