"The battle of stars pass" mused Madaline as the group gathered up their things to move, "it were a king or a baron or something, one of them barbarian lords of old Merebas."
She turned to Vadania, "Woldegard was a much bigger place back then, or so I 'eard. Great legions, great Emperors. They ruled their land an' most of Merebas, til the senate an the Emperor fought, big civil war like. By the time they came back ta claim Merebas they foun' all the old tribes standin' together against em, an' that's how it still is today"
(Vadania has no trouble finding berries)

"What do you know about the tribes?" asked Ka'lion as he feeds and then mounts his mule [dice=20] +5 = 9 animal handling [dice=20] ride +1 + 9
Ka'lion has the worse luck but this mule is use to children. Good thing to.[rand=13835612568072975679964095586910817985222698189318028275924269109964]

"Vadania. The point of this entire trip is to check on the past. I just don't care to be blindfolded while we do it? We cannot handle being ambushed - remember there where no survivors. Unless we know the area we are likely to walk into a trap. We need to use our brains. It's the only chance we've got." said Ka'lion Vadania answered, " Actually the whole point is to check on the present condition of the tombs, not check on things that happened long ago. There are NOT going to be armies in wait to ambush us. All we have to worry about are lizard men and a bloodthirsty Wizard. And perhaps some other small groups in the area. Believe me, I'm even more adverse to walking into an ambush than you are." Vadania shudders at the thought of being ambushed again before continuing, " But what we need to look for are ambushes for small groups, not an ambush for an entire army. Even I know that those are two very different things. An ambush for an Army is huge and must be kept far from those being ambushed. An ambush for us will be much smaller and closer. Besides, how would you bring your mule on a hike though mountains without so much as a trail or pass?"

"Mule's climb pretty well. Wild mules, I've seen climbing up and down hills. We'll lets get going - we can talk on the way. Small ambushes can use large ambush locations to their advantage. They are harder to see. But if you well not follow me I guess I'm going to need to fallow you. Do both of us a favor and don't get me killed. I wouldn't like it much." said Ka'lion with a smile.

While leading the way and looking carefully for any ambush (as she always does), Vadania finds some berries and harvests a good handful. She cast the goodberry spell on them, resulting in 5 berries this time. Vadania then eats all the nonmagical berries while walking, since she's the only one in the group that hasn't had a magical berry to satisfy her hunger. The morning's journey is quiet as even Maddy keeps to herself lest her chatter alert any nearby lizardmen.
The pace is not as quick as Vadania would like, Aelos slowed by his armour and Ka'lion determined not to dismount and lead his mule in the swamp.
When the group at length reaches a series of large shallow pools the elf decides to press on through rather than search for a way around and risk descending into the valley as night closes.
Wading through the knee-high water Vadania freezes as she spots movement, a snake perhaps or worse. Motioning the group back to dry land she glances towards the bank and spies something far, far worse - five pairs of amber eyes emerging slowly from undergrowth, the sound of wood cracking under some great weight behind them.
"RUN!"

Vadania follows her own advice and runs for her life.
Does she have any idea what she's running from?

Ka'lion dismounts to lead his mules to shore and he draws his ax. The mule seems to be more concerned with it's own life than Ka'lions fumbling. Ride test - DC5 to stay mounted as the mule bolts, DC15 to fall off without harm(or DC10 into water), DC20 to dismount in a controlled way with ax at the ready - choose before you rollDoes she have any idea what she's running from? She's heard vague stories of 'fellbeasts' but never seen one - this thing seems to count though.
Most of the stories involved villages being eaten and the like.

Ka'lions mule spins skittishly on the spot before bolting for the far bank, followed by Maddy and Vadania with Ylva in tow.
Aelos is not a quick, slowed by his armour he follows as best he can but Vadania watches the creature move with surprising speed as it emerges from the shadows and splashes into the water - 5 massive snake-like heads protruding from a lithe reptilian body.
It's still some distance away but it moves through the soft mud and undergrowth with ease, and is gaining on Aelos.

"Hydra. Oh shit. Come on Horse. Aelos needs some cover!" demands Ka'lion, he's not panicked but he is not happy.

"Hydra. Oh shit. Come on Horse. Aelos needs some cover!" demands Ka'lion, he's not panicked but he is not happy. You can try to gain control of the mule with a standard DC20 ride test (Control mount in combat) ... or you can just cling on.
Ka'lion doesn't know what a hydra is - he grew up in the middle of nowhere and has no ranks in knowledge skills. This is a fellbeast - a beast of some kind, probably from the fell. For all Ka'lion knows it's a million year old fire breathing dragon-kin.

Ka'lion has been reading most of his life in a wizards home while taking care of his grandmother animals. I would not be surprised if he's seen quite a few monsters but that does not know more then how to feed the, As a child I read everything related to fish, animals, monsters and dinosaurs. I would not think that a wizard would have a lot of normal animals. He has not seen the Hydra breath fire yet, but if it's a fell-beast them he has already rolled a 1 on the die roll. But hydras are a well known part of our folklore - although none of us have seen one and I've seen snakes with 2 heads - one a king snake and the other a goffersnake and I've seen films with 2 headed cobras. I think it's reasonable to make a guess as to what he is seeing. Ka'liom holds on and once a shore he'll try to regain control of the mule. ride +1[dice=20] = Does he get a modifier for animal handling?[rand=151772132376208964419997786171730396892079152166848615499779116362]

Ka'lion has been reading most of his life in a wizards home while taking care of his grandmother animals. This kind of thing has to be represented by points in knowledge skills and feats.
The guy should have 45 skill points to spread and I can only see about 30 spent on the sheet.
Get Ka'lion's skills into order and put points into Knowledge(arcana/religion/etc) and the like - from here on in Ka'lion cannot claim knowledge and abilities that are not explicitly on his character sheet.
If you can find a suitable flaw you can take the spellwise feat to represent your background ... the inattentive flaw perhaps

I counted 35 points in skills - so I added 10 more = 45 so I can claim exposure to magic knowledge I put all 10 points in to cc skills which means I only added 5 total points 4 arcane 4 nature 2 religion = that equals 2 arcane 2 nature and 1 religion +4 each for intelligence. I hope that resolves this problem.

Ka'lion bounds into the distance atop his terrified mule, now on dry land a dismount would be more risky and the animal appears to be aiming for a particularly overgrown thicket.
Maddy pauses to sling a stone at the closing beast to no effect, turning to Vadania "there mus' be some way ta slow it, we jus' need ta get to tha thicker trees"
Vadania can see that the foliage thickens ahead but there seems no way Aelos can outrun the beast over that distance without help or a distraction of some kind.

Vadania casts an Entangle spell between the fellbeast and Aelos. She knows that the spell won't stop such a large beast, but even the largest beasts are slowed by plants grabbing at their feet.
Ideally, Vadania will cast the spell so that the fellbeast is just inside the edge of the 40x40 foot area of the spell. So that even if it makes it's reflex roll it will be slowed. But most important is that Aelos is not in the spells area!

Ka'lion is able to calm the mule down somewhat, though it stops of it's own at the tree line - a peculiar keening noise can be heard from somewhere out of sight amongst the trees and the mule is unsure of which way to run next.
Looking back he sees the fellbeast ensnared as tree branches and weeds wind up from the swamp at Vadania's command - the huge creature easily breaks through but is slowed for a moment as Aelos scrambles for the bank.
