Ka'lion get's off the mule and drinks the unknown potion. It's time to find out what it does. riding +1 [dice=20][rand=93247519270516939813421193975955505592699395492729718888155184686]

Ka'lions vision blurs as the mule, now free of it's rider, bolts once more around the edge of the treeline.
The barbarian wobbles as the world around him echoes in his ears and turns an odd shade of purple for a brief moment before returning to normal ... almost.
"Keep moving!" Madaline is the first to reach Ka'lion as Vadania and Aelos splash clear of the water and run towards him, the fellbeast is hot pursuit.

Ka'lion gets to his feet and looks closely at the fellbeast to better understand what he is seeing and feeling. Then he turns and runs after his mule.

Vadania paused in her retreat to create another distraction. Using Spontaneous Casting, she used her prepared Magic Stone spell to cast Nature's Ally instead. She didn't like using that spell, since the summoned allies had a bad habit of dying. But getting eaten by a bigger creature was part of the great circle of life. And besides, she didn't care quite as much for Rats as other creatures. So she summoned a Dire Rat between Aelos and the Fellbeast and sent it to attack the Fellbeast.
Of course the rat had no chance, but perhaps the Fellbeast would slow down enough to eat this offered morsel, giving the group a chance to retreat.

The mule runs out into more open ground, chased by a curiously purple Ka'lion. Vadania thinks that the barbarian might well be fast enough to outrun the beast but the rest of the group were not so swift.
As she nears the treeline she hears the same keening noises that spooked the mule - leapers, creatures that she had learnt to avoid, territorial and carnivorous lizards that feed on smaller animals but are not above falling upon small groups of humans.
The summoned rat buys the group a step, but no more as the beast turns to gobble it up. Something larger like the mule might sate it's hunger, assuming it is hungry...
With a moment to collect himself Aelos readies his weapons and offers a brief prayer to Pelor, summoning a glistening energy about himself similar to that about the barbarian.
The trees look thick enough to block it's path but there is clear danger within, and retreat into the open seems a risky choice at best - time to stand and fight, but which foe?
(And Ka'lion has again, sadly, run himself off away from the encounter. The Hydra isn't fast enough to catch him and neither is the party. He's only one move action away though.)

With no time to decide, Vadania needs to decide which of dangers is less deadly. Fortunately Druids have very good instincts on matters dealing with animals... Knowledge Nature [dice=20]+6=12
Assuming Vadania knows more about these dangers than I, which does she think is the less deadly? Or is it even a choice? Do we have the option to reach the trees in time?
At least this time, we were all running away. Its just that Barbarians are better at it than anyone else (though they're usually running towards danger, not away from it).[rand=27672268915921452047838796861469782774903462268412999014959204942]

Assuming Vadania knows more about these dangers than I, which does she think is the less deadly? Or is it even a choice? Do we have the option to reach the trees in time? You have your backs to the trees - once inside you could outpace the hydra easily but not the tree dwelling leapers.Vadania has been taught about the leapers, as they are common close to the fell, normally ambush attackers but the noise they are making suggests a fight over territory or a mate. Highly agile and stealthy should they choose to be. As a child Vadania had nightmares of a deer that had attacked and gorged a leaper - though she had not seen the fight her master instructed her that the creatures release a gaseous acid when wounded strong enough to have melted away much of the deers head. Of the fellbeast she knows little. Countless stories of such creatures possessing strange and amazing properties such as fire breath or invisibility - but they were only stories. (It's still possible to evade or engage both encounters, though without the mule as bait outrunning the hydra would be difficult. I had hoped the new player would be ready by this point but Maddy has oil if needed)

"Get clear! I'll cover you for a few seconds but I'm not going think for a moment that I'm smarter then a creature with more then one head! We run! I don't what my horse to break a leg running in the swamp! I'll give you a twelve second head start! Then I'm leaving without you if I have to!" shouts Ka'lion coming to the parties rescue.

Barely a dozen feet from the group the fellbeast pauses and turns to face the charging barbarian, it's five heads rearing up in unison to strike down its assailant.
Twelve seconds? Unarmoured as he is the man might not last two.
(Harknail - stand and fight or run? The NPC characters will follow your lead)

I need more details - such as size, color, how big is it and the landscape for instance is there enough room to use hit and run tactics and or signs of past battles? I'd like to be able to use Ka'lion's running to full advantage. I think he's going to need it.

Vadania calls out, "We're at the trees." But rather then retreat she unlimbered her bow and loosed an arrow at the Hydra to help support the barbarians charge.

The creature is huge, towering over Ka'lion and some 20 feet from head to tail. It stands on firm ground, a shallow pool behind it and a dense clump of trees before it where the rest of the party have made their stand. The rest of the swamp is relatively flat, a collection of pools, trees, and clumped foliage. Ka'lion believes he could outrun the creature, but to turn your back on something with so many heads is a dangerous proposition. The group does not run, instead Madaline throws out and arm casting a great flare of light into the creatures eyes, dazzling it as Aelos charges into its flanks. Vadania holds her ground alongside Maddy, firing into one of the creatures necks. Ylva crouches nearby ready to attack but unmoving without Vadanias command. Init order : Madaline Aelos ??Vadania?? ??Ylva?? Ka'lion FellbeastRoll init please for Vadania and Ylva
Ka'lion can charge into combat with flanking (from Aelos) - as usual with hydras you can strike the body or make risky sunder attempts on the heads and get AoO-ed.

I need a few more details can Ka'lion try a crippling blow to it's foot, knee or ankle as he runs past? His goal is to slow down the monster. Not to fight it. Ka'kion has an ax not a sword. x 3 damage on a crit

can Ka'lion try a crippling blow to it's foot, knee or ankle as he runs past? You can make a Knowledge(Arcana) check to try and recall any knowledge about the creature and it's potential weaknesses.
Simply hitting it in the leg may or may not slow it down, but running in and out will grant the creature multiple attacks of opportunity.
Crippling hits tend to fall into the realm of poisons, feats, and class abilities, beyond which you don't often get more than flavour text and hitpoint loss. Much like Ka'lions earlier lack of knowledge, it's a game - there is only so far you can get before I have to insist that you 'buy' the abilities you want to use with feats and class levels. Something to consider when you reach 3rd and get one of each.

arcana +6 [dice=20] = 12 Okay he's fighting on full defense - it will improve his AC a bit - I think it's +2[rand=28865075018256921667029499076307122228041291236888769161894451827]

arcana (12) Okay he's fighting on full defense Ka'lion advances to within striking range of the beast and then stops, seeking to fend off and press aside its striking heads rather than attacking. He recalls that such creatures are almost impossible to kill, able to regenerate from injury almost instantly. Massive physical damage - crushing, dismemberment, fire - might kill the creature before it's wounds can close. (Total defense, +4 dodge to AC. Ylva's action once init is rolled)

Vadania initiative:[dice=20] +4 = 17 Ylva initiative:[dice=20] +2 = 12
Vadania calls for Ylva to attack. As she is trained to do Ylva tried to get to a flanking position to attack the legs.
To hit:[dice=20]+3 (+2?) = 20 (22?) Damage: [dice=6]+1 = 5 strength role (in case trip is possible):[dice=20]+1 = 18[rand=64858289435505878604048804845661686495976522564907905924576334655]
