What's the current terrain like? Sparse forest wetlands. Vadania can pick a path across firm land and shallows without slowing the pace but the scattered murky lakes and overgrown foliage have put Vadania on high alert now that she is aware of the lizardmen - though the tracks are many hours old they could easily stumble into them as night closes in.

Can Vadania find any nice big evergreens to make camp under? With the near constant rain those make the best shelters and would shield the group from being casually noticed by anyone passing by.

Survival test to find a suitable location and camoflague it.

Ka'lion asked the druid about the spellcraft of druids and their language. While riding Ka'lion try's to repair the broken bow - ends up keeping the sting and discarding the rest of it as not recoverable. Vadania answered, " I don't know anything about spell craft. Druids draw their spells from the nature around them. Once a day they decide what spells they want to cast the next day and they meditate to gather the power for those spells using their attunement with nature." She continues, " Yes, Druids have their own language, one know only to Druids. I'm forbidden to teach it to anyone until after they have demonstrated that they have attuned to nature. At that point they have essentially become druids anyway, just not fully trained druids." P.S. I am enjoying the In Character conversations about being a druid.

OOC Character discussion moved to character discussion board :kmansadventures.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=char&action=display&thread=8723Vadania expertly picks out a dry, concealed spot where the group can shelter from occasional showers. The night is undisturbed by attack but restless none the less, twice more the ground trembles beneath you and every passing creature puts your nerve to the test. As dawn breaks Maddy, the last on watch, pokes you all awake - in the dull light you can see a half dozen lizardmen moving through the swamp. Ka'lion recognises the movement as that of trackers - even Vadanias skill could not hide the tracks of the mule and she now works to keep it still and quiet. (The Lizardmen are 80 feet away and have not spotted you, yet)

Ka'lion loads his sling with a rock and fires well behind the lizard man at the back of the group into a bush. He's hoping if the lizard at the back of the group notices the noise the lizard men well turn around looking for an attack from behind. It wont last but it might make the lizard dividing any attacks. Ideally all of the lizard men investigate the rock. and charge the noise. increasing their distance from the party buying a few additional rounds of distance.

Ka'lion loads his sling with a rock and fires well behind the lizard man at the back of the group into a bush While the shot is well within sling range, Ka'lion knows he risks giving away the group's position if he rises to launch the stone - slinging is not subtle. He settles instead for sliding back into cover as best he can and throwing the stone by hand, it's inaccurate but does the job as the rock lands in a puddle with an audiable splash. The lizardmen freeze and crouch low, scanning the area around them with weapons and shields raised.

Do we have a moment's distraction where we can change position without being noticed.

Do we have a moment's distraction where we can change position without being noticed. No, the lizardmen are jumpy. You might have been able to move away if they'd turned while following the tracks but they seem wary of ambush - as if they have been attacked recently.
They don't appear to be aware of your location, or existance though. The noise just set them on edge.

Like Vadania Do they seem to be following our tracks or something else? Vadania's first choice is to keep hiding and let them go by if that seems likely.

Vadania will motion the others to be quiet. She watches the Lizardmen carefully to see if they're following the path she had used when leading the party to their hiding place. The first rule Vadania had learned to survive in a fight was to avoid the fight altogether if at all possible.
Vadania hopes that the heightened alertness from Ka'lion's distraction doesn't result in avoiding a fight being impossible. She'd have to talk to him about that, but latter, after the danger was past. She wondered if he was going to do something else to attract the Lizardmen's attention. She hoped he would just let them pass.

The lizardmen move slowly and cautiously into a defensive formation around a single individual dressed and armed differently from the rest, who utters something gutteral and indecipherable, holding forth a staff topped with the skull of his own kind.
Aelos whispers "Faluzure"

"An adept or shaman is my guess. They tend to be impartial. Adepts provide healing to the lower classes like farmers. Shaman are gods and mortals middlemen. When I've needed healing in the past. I've used both. We may be able to recruit additional help if we are careful. Does anyone speak lizardman? I don't." whispers Ka'lion.
GM- I'll look at the druid variant - which book is it in?

Aelos glances over as Ka'lion suggests parley "Faluzure is a dark god, ally of Nerull, hater of life".
Turning back, "that one is a priest of some sort, though I know not what foul magic it uses"

"If we end up in a fight he needs to be the primary target and we should keep him as far away as possible. I don't think we have any hope of evading them. The two mules leave easily followed tracks." whispers Ka'lion pulling out his battle ax and leaning it next to the tree. Then he loads his sling. "We have some cover right now. We should use it if we can."

The shaman clasps his staff in both hands, turning slowly as he surveys the land around him. He starts at the source of the noise but his gaze will soon pass over the group.
Around him four lizardmen crouch low with shields and clubs held high, each facing a different direction and wary of attack. The final warrior stands a little taller facing the source of the noise - his attire seems different but he is partially hidden from view at the far side of the group.
These are disciplined warriors, seemingly more than a match for the group in a fair fight.

"Are we fighting or running?" asks Ka'lion of the wizard

There not being a wizard here to answer, Vadania puts a finger to her lips in a "shush" gesture and makes a downward gesture palm down. Neither running nor fighting were good options here. They were outnumbered by stronger foes, who could run faster than most of the group. Vadania hoped Ka'lion didn't get the rest of them killed with his constant whispering. He might be able to run fast enough to get away, but the rest of them couldn't. They had to depend on hiding and not being noticed, while Ka'lion kept trying to give away their position.

Ka'lion can tell that the shaman cast a spell to locate them. He knows that the shaman just has not spotted them yet. He pulls out the potion and puts it into a easy to reach pocket. He'll drink it during the fight he knows is just about to start. He thinks Fassure means dragon god but he is not sure.
