Ka'lion climbs back up.+6+roll:[dice=20] = himself Ka'lion cuts two lengths of rope and ties knots in them so if he's killed the others can use the simple rope ladder to climb back out. He ties the latter to both the pitons that was hammered into the ground and to a pillar just in case. That is I think about 200 feet he'll be leaving behind. So the party has an emergency escape access. +1 rope use:[dice=20] makes a harness for the wolf rope use +1 Dex:[dice=20] lowers Aelos first with all that armor on he is the heaviest +6 climb+roll:[dice=20] has Vadania help him lower Aelos and the wolf. Ka'lion then lowers Vadania +6 climb+roll:[dice=20] He goes last with a normal rope tied to a torch holder on a nearby wall. That gives the party two ways out if they have time to use them. +6 climb down:+roll:[dice=20]
GM: I know this will take a little time, but I'm finding the game a little slow at the moment - so these rolls should get the party to the next stage of the adventure.[rand=652755199698731307019139151088893238640495575964459577675701584667]

Peering through the broken door, torches in hand, the group find a partially collapsed corridor lined with statues to unknown heroes.
In places the walls and ceiling have fallen revealing more rooms, and rocky passageways beyond. This place does not seem to have been carved into the stone so much as buried beneath it.
The corridor ends in another inscribed door much like the first. Though the door has held the cracks around it are large enough for the group to climb through to the room beyond, a once magnificent chamber with several exits lit by a blue halo of magical light. The light emanates from a book which lays open upon a pedestal near the bronze doors.
Clambering fully into the room the group cautiously check their surroundings for zombies. There are none, but Vadanias keen elven eyes can pick out movement in the shadows of the pillars arranged around the edge of the chamber.
The group could escape via the route they entered, but not quickly. Roll init

Rake and his men help the others down, leaving two ropes anchored above. The room below is large and circular with faded engravings across the ground. Dust is piled around the edges of the room and fill the numerous cracks in the floor as if blown there by a strong wind. The walls are also engraved and badly cracked and several pieces of masonry have fallen from the ceiling. Aelos believes the symbols are of some divine power but does not recognise their function or the gods that they appeal to. Water can be seen and heard dripping down through the cracks in the wall though the room is not flooding. A large bronze double door is the only exit from the room, one side hanging part open from broken hinges and no light is visible beyond. Vadania calls for the men above to wait a moment. She then checks the water to see if it's good or bad. She then lets those above know that there is some water down here, and it's condition and that it will take some work to get it. Water is a precious resource in the fell, having a source would help people survive.

"There's something hiding behind the pillars," warns Vadania. Not knowing what is hiding there, she readies her bow to start with.

Init : Ka'lion 23 (16/25hp) Ylva 21 (23/26hp) Vadania 18 (23/23hp) Aelos 10 (25/25hp) Creatures 7 The closest creature is around 30 feet away lurking behind a pillar, the farthest is nearly 140 feet away on the far side of the room. The creatures didn't roll well so you can start posting actions. Have the healing spells been cast so that no one is low on HP? Yes - just roll up the dice for as many healing spells as you wanted to cast (same for Aelos) and i'll treat them as cast before the start of combat

Aelos will draw his weapon but will move forward slowly, keeping an eye out for any surprises from the other shadows.

The figures in the shadows are somewhat humanoid, stooped over and appear as if they are melting - as if made of molten wax. Two large unblinking jet-black eyes peer out from their heads as they ooze forwards avoiding the light cast by the book.

Vadania will try to recognize what these things are; [dice=20]+7=14
If she doesn't recognize them, She'll call out "Does anyone know what these things are?"
I think it's going to take knowledge: religion to identify these things.
Noticing that these creatures, whatever they are, are avoiding the blue light, Vadania will retreat into the blue light and calls Ylva back to her side. She will then ask Aelos, "Can you take a look at that book?"
She loaded an arrow, but held her fire until they were identified as something undead or made a hostile move.

Does Ka'lion know what they are? He doesn't recognise them as a magical construct of any type he is familiar with, nor as an undead creature. It's possible that they are from another plane.

Vadania stays ready with her bow as she says, "Then maybe they aren't hostile. Stay on guard but don't attack unless it looks like they're attacking."
I realize that even with a prepared action, this might give them the first shot (to our regret). But I just played in a module where we were killing goblins only to find they were the wrong goblins... Oops.
In Vadania's limited experience some things are kill on sight, some are avoid, and most are live and let live, fighting only if you must.

Aelos suspects they may be denizens of the lower planes, but has little practical experience of such things. Scrolls that he studied as a youth described the fate of those souls that fell to the devils, tormented beings, footsoldiers of the infernal wars.
The creatures rush forward as one, as if commanded by some voiceless force. The light does not burn them but they shield their faces from it none the less as they claw feebly at the group with knife-like fingers, one cutting a gash across Vadanias unprotected hand (2 damage)
There is no thought or finesse - only a relentless surging attack.
[tag all - also roll for any pre-fight healing that took place]
