Melwyn shakes his head, "It was not me they were looking for but the portal, but it was not what they were expecting. If what I know of their order is true their founder came through a portal such as the one you saw and I can only imagine they are looking for it now."He pauses, "though why they have not done so in the past is unknown to me. Perhaps they fear others learning the secrets of their power."" The portal I found was slowly breaking down, I don't know how much longer it will last," commented Vadania. " At this point I don't know if I should tell them about it or keep it from them. I'll need to think on that. Thank you very much for you advice. I need to rejoin my friends." Vadania will rejoin the rest of the group at they're table. She notices the newcomers, surprised to find those she was looking for already at her table. OOC: How big are Scar and Ylva at this point? The SRD says that 4-6 HD wolves are large. And Ylva will still stronger...

Aldreda notes Vadanias approach, "and you would be the druid captain Ka'lion spoke of, I presume."Vadania can see that Aldreda's companion is no ordinary wolf. Perhaps a familiar, perhaps something else. Scar and Ylva can optionally grow to large size - they don't have to, but they can't shrink back at a later date. +8 strength, -2 dex, +4 con, +2 natural armour, and the usual -1 to attack/AC for size.Ka'lion invited them to the parties table, if he didn't come Ka'lion will eat. Aldreda came to the table, but Vadania moved away to speak with Melwyn at his own table. Ka'lion can of course reiterate his original offer if he wants.

He only had to ask - they had stayed at their table because Vadania had come to them, and Xana's issue was with George, not Ka'lion.

That would be me," agreed Vadania. " I wander around doing what I can to help the fell. What about you, what are your goals?" Vadania is curious about the unusual wolf, but will ask about it later. Wow, I wasn't expecting any stat change for being larger. And another change is that we won't be able to lower a large wolf using ropes. But would a large Ylve be able to fit though the vertical tunnel we used to escape from the skeletons if enchanted with Spider Climb? Since I described Ylva as also being empowered by the silver flame, I'm tempted to make her large. But I don't want to leave her behind on what's likely to be our next goal.

I wander around doing what I can to help the fell. What about you, what are your goals?" Aldreda replies, "i'm just here chasing an old story, a place your friend Ka'lion mentioned.""As for the fell, I see you didn't get caught up in the recent politics. Probably for the best, from what I hear they are closing ranks now that the cabal of mages have made themselves known... though I imagine the death of that dragon had already made more than a few of their allies nervous."She tilts her head, "or should I say your allies? You don't look much like an Eldeen but I suppose you can never tell with a shapechanger."Wow, I wasn't expecting any stat change for being larger / But would a large Ylve be able to fit though the vertical tunnel we used to escape from the skeletons if enchanted with Spider Climb? Standard stat change from the SRD for going from a medium to large size. It would take more of a grease spell given that it was difficult for an armoured man, let alone a wolf the size of a small pony
Vadania knows that Melwyn can scribe/cast arcane scrolls though, and perhaps has something that might do the job.

"She's looking for the tower we found." says Ka'lion, "I gave her a general idea where to look for it but I didn't have time to show her where it was. I was to busy trying to help the druids and the barbarians find a way to work out their differences. They where about to go to war and I thought the demon was more important."
I’m increasing Scars size, if they can fit fine, if not that's fine to. They can guard our escape rout top side.

Vadania comments, " Hmm, in that case I don't suppose you would be interested in making the fell a safer place to live in. Why are you looking for portals to elsewhere?" Ylva will be large as well, don't want Scar towering over the more powerful Ylva I was inclined that way anyway

Aldreda looks quizzically at Vadania, "I've never heard a druid say they want to make the fell 'safe' before". She chuckles to herself, "and as for the portals it seemed like a good idea to put as much distance between myself and this nightmare as possible."

"I'm less concerned that the fell is safe, but I don't like demons or war. They are just to disruptive." said Ka'lion, "The demons need to be destroyed. That can only be done one way. We kill them on our plane. And then hunt them down on their own planes or figure out a way to kill them on our plane that will kill them again once they return home. It's the only way to get rid of for good.." says Ka'lion opennng his book on the outer planes to the information on demons and handing it to anyone that wants to look at it.

"Certainly an adventurous task, but I doubt you'll find anyone willing and able. There are no heroes any more, no great mages or slayers or leaders of old.", she waves her arm vaguely in the direction of the fell, "weeks of darkness and demons and the walking dead and where are the armies of Merebas or Woldegard? Where are the legions of the Empress or the crusaders of the Triumvir?"
She leans back in her seat, "I didn't give this land a chance until I saw one crazy old barbarian king step up and fight back... Now I don't know, it all feels like it is too late, winning a battle after you have lost the war."
While she talks Brennen peers at Ka'lions book. It seems like a well ordered collection of information though nothing revolutionary jumps out at him, it would be a useful reference should matters of the planes become important.

"You are mistaken. I'm more then willing to kill the demons here and then hunt them down back on their own plane but I'm not willing to do it before I would win those fights with my eyes closed and I'm not skilled enough yet. Someday I will be. We don't need an army on their own plane but we would need to be about twentieth level to try. My captain because of the deaths makes it her priority to run recklessly into battle. But that will never be me. I run away from fights to give me a little time to think my way out of a problem as I don't like killing without a good reason and saving my own neck issent a good enough when I'm the intruder.
A hero puts the lives of others ahead of their own. That's me. I've done it before and I no doubt will do it again but I'm not going to do it unless it's a total party kill unless I do. Some people think me a coward. I'm just being very careful. I know I’m not skilled enough yet. In the fight with the demon the demon had all the luck and I have very little!
The demons are the endgame, first on this world and then on theirs but that is the endgame and we are still near the beginning of this battle. It looks like we have a little time to get a little more exspaance and captain make no mistake. We lost all of the big fights we had.
The first was against the assassin that whipped out the village, he got away. And I nearly killed the only survivor. We lived but we didn’t win. A win would of been to avenge the villagers. That’s a win.
Saving the town from the ibaxian won us a little fame, but we didn’t really win that fight either. If I hadn’t nearly killed myself to save the party - we’d all be dead. You where all helpless at the time. You where all stunned. He would of cut you all down like wheat! And he had already killed most of his own men. So we know he was dangerously insane. Now we did save a lot of lives so you see it as a win. I see it as most of the battle was done for us.
And in the fight we just had with the demon, we where a distraction that allowed the flame god to save himself.
My point is we are winning because we have been lucky. That’s never going to win a war of any kind. It’s just given you a reckless trust that the fates are on our side.
But you need to keep in mind. The fates can be very fickle with their gifts. The bad can get lucky to.
After all the demon got out of his prison because of an earthquake and no one in our time seems to be prepared to them. We we ended up giving the demon more then a full month head start. I’d call that lucky to." said Ka'lion

Vadania adds, "And waiting till you are certain of winning means waiting forever while people are dying. If you're avoiding all risk, the demon will get more powerful far faster than you do. And if you don't run far enough, it may well come hunting you, especially while you continue to carry the book on how to defeat it."
"Now I do agree that we aren't yet strong enough to defeat the main demon. But we've just proven that we are strong enough to defeat the main demon. Yes, we had help from the flame, but the flame could not have won without us either. And if we had waited, the flame would have been extinguished and the demon would have been stronger. So we would not have been able to defeat that demon even if we were more powerful."
Vadania shakes her head, "This is why I don't follow you. Yes my plans have risk. Yes we could be killed if fate goes against us. But my plans at least have a chance for success. All your plans offer is a chance for personal survival."
"When we encountered the wizard who had killed the town, we were successful in at least driving him away and keeping him from whatever he was doing. I would have preferred to kill him, but thwarting him is still a success. And if you had been helping instead of going around trying to burn down the town, maybe we would have succeeded."
"As for Burr Town, you're right, that was a very hard fight. If you hadn't have been there helping, we quite easily may have lost. But instead we again thwarted a demon, and now Burr Town is becoming a stronghold that help in the fight against the demon. Many lives were saved, and rescues to fight the demon were acquired."
"So you see all our progress as a series of failures? How would you define success? What would you have us do?"

"So you see all our progress as a series of failures? How would you define success? What would you have us do?"
"Not quite captain. I don't see any of it as a series of failures. I just don't see any of them as a earned win." says Kalion pulling out of his pocket a gold coin, "Call it heads or tails?" says Ka'lion flipping the coin, "It doesn't matter what it comes up. Call it right you win and I loose. Call it wrong and I win and you loose. Either way - we didn't earn it. The fates decided the outcome. To win a war. We need to earn it! I have nothing against luck but in the last fight I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. I blame my armor. I think it was cursed but if I'm wrong chance favored the demon. I'm skilled enough that I should of hit her at least 50% of the time. I only managed to hit her 5% of the time. If you can't hit the target - you are going to loose!
If this was a test in school and you only lost by not showing up - that's how we are doing so far. We showed up! I define success as being well trained, well educated in your enemies strengths and weaknesses and having a brilliant plain that works nearly every time. That is success anything else is just chance. And in time you will loose because we didn't earn it. As far as what to do you train and study your enemies." said Ka'lion before tossing the coin to any children nearby.

"My book. Or I should say - My night light. No one can read it. It's just filled with pictures of the last demon war. It's pretty and I earned it. It was guarded by an imp. But Vadania and others keep making assumptions about it. The current assumption is that the demon is going to come looking for it. If that's the case they should stop asking to see it. It only makes them a target in the demons search." said Ka’lion, "For that reason. I'm no longer showing it around."

"So what's our plan, then? What kind of scouting capabilities do we have?" says Brennen. "Do Druids have any remote viewing spells? Or perhaps you could turn into a bat and fly ahead? I can teleport silently, too, if that helps."
