The symbol that Vadania says appears in moonlight is of no deity that Brennen is aware, however he has seen this symbol or one very much like it in relation to an ancient human sorceress known as Zceryll. Stories told of here are often cautionary against the pursuit of immortality but it is also said that she created a number of potent artefacts but the only magic he had encountered with any connection to her research were summoning spheres intended to summon aberrations rather than natural or magical creatures. There are three other symbols you can roll for - specify which rolls are for the tooth (which was also the symbol Vadania found in the town), which are for the symbol on the canvas sheet, and which are for the symbol on the ring/chest/hidden room wall." Summon aberrations?" said Vadania with obvious distaste, " Maybe I should destroy that canvas!"

Continuing along the river as they discuss their new possessions the group soon approach the old mill house. Aware that the band of killers they encountered here before might still be using the building Vadania and Ka'lion check around the area for fresh tracks - but what they find are not the tracks of humans and hunting dogs but of ogres.

Ka'lion measures the feet of the ogres - it's unlikely they have the same size feet to figure out the numbers. He ties loose nots in his rope so he can identify them once we find them.

Ka'lion estimates three ogres, one with footware and the others barefoot.

Vadania asks, "Tink, at least some ogres have been raiding caravans lately, combined with gnolls and kobolds. These ogres may or may not be connected. Do we check them out, or find a way around?"

"Let's check it out," says Tink.

"Think I'd prefer not to kill them. If we have a choice. This party can use some strength. Do any of you speak giant? I don't." says Kalion, "We are going to need a great deal of strength at the vault in Clearwater."

The group have some familiarity with the local ogre reputation - to the north east beyond Woldegard lays the ogre empire. Those that stray south are more often than not low witted brutes and juveniles looking to kill and pillage for amusement and personal gain but stories tell of those foolish lords and adventurers who would invade the kingdom meeting not unorganised resistance but militia and magic.
From what has been seen of their actions so far they are here to raid, opportunists taking advantage of the loss of life within the Steadlands. Perhaps they could be encouraged to rob from the Clearwater temple if the group could find a way to converse with them.
How do you wish to proceed?

"Yeah, I speak Giant," says Tink. "Honestly, I was thinking more along the lines of nicking their valuables while they're sleeping, but I guess we could also try diplomacy."

"We''ve never found them a sleep. Always after raids and murder and plunder. But I'd like to at least try to make allies. I don't like getting hurt." said Ka'lion

Vadania commented, "If they have anything of value, then that means they are raiding, which is hurting others. If they join us, they are going to want an ogre share of the treasure, which would be at least half of what we find."
She continued, "We may need to fight them, but if they are just grunt ogres, they'll be nowhere near the danger they would have been when we started."
OOC: How long has it been since we left the old hidden cave? Specifically, has Vadania refreshed her spells and wild shape?

OOC: How long has it been since we left the old hidden cave? Specifically, has Vadania refreshed her spells and wild shape? It is the same day, so Vadania and Ka'lion would have selected their spells prior to checking the cave - refresh your lists now if required.

OK, updated spell list for spells used so far. I'm assuming that we're out of the cold so Vadania doesn't need Endure Elements any more. Here's today's casting of GoodBerries: 3IvH56n1p_1-4p_1-4=41-41-4

"Vadania. Most ogres are going to be evil, bullies or not know their own strength. We can always assume that is what we are going to find. Shame on you. You claim to be good person. When look for the bad in a people expecting to find find it. You surely will. The truly good tries to be a guide to others and teach them how to find the good within them selves. All we do is kill people if we think they are evil. And as far as your concerned evil is guilty just because it's evil. That is not my path! My goal is to recruit one being at a time to fight the demons. An ogres strength is an asset!. I think we can find a neutral ogre. Good may be to much to ask. Would they want the lion share? Most likely. But I divide most of our treasure and I try to keep it as equal as I can. Now how are we going to get an ogre to side with us? I have an idea. We talk to them! Ask them questions. What is your share of the treasure obtained. Even a weak ogre is going to be stronger then we are. Find out how they feel cheated by their party or leader. And make a better offer for them personally. Once the ogre learns we can be trusted they are less likely to do evil things. Yes we are going to need to teach how to do good and that may include learning their language so we can intercede when we need to. This side path is to prepare to fight the demons. We just are not ready yet, but a few very powerful allies would improve our chances." said Ka'lion

Vadania answered, "If some creatures try to kill me, and I think they are likely to kill others as well, then I'm going to try to kill them. Be my guest talking to ogres, as long as Tink is ok with it. When they try to kill you, we'll defend you. Of course, even if you do get one to tag along, we can't trust it. And I'm not that impressed with the power on an Ogre. Unless it's more skilled than most, I think I could probably defeat one in a one on one fight. I'm all for getting more help, but I'd rather get someone I can trust not to kill me in my sleep!"

"Myself, I don't particularly love the idea of sharing treasure with a pack of ogre bandits," says Brennen.

"I wasn't thinking abut a pack. I was thinking one. Not many and demons are a danger to ogres. And more of a danger working with them then against them. At least if they are working with us we might be able to safely deal with them. Otherwise I'm going to use my bow a not be able to back you up in hand to hand. An ogre can rip me in 2." says Ka'lion
