Ka'lion packs up the valuables and puts them on his house. Then he checks the barn. He thought someone had been sent to replace the people the first inhabits.

Ka'lion packs up the valuables and puts them on his house. The cutlery and stuff like that?

It was Vadania that was looting the ogre fighter. But she has no objection to Ka'lion packing the bulky stuff on his horse :-)

Ka'lion leaves most of the pots and pans - just taking any that are really nice looking for his place.

Vadania introduces Emily to our leader, "Emily, this is Tink our leader. Tink, this is Emily. She has an item that was supposed to track the cave we visited half a day ago, but now it's tracking us. Also, she has healing magic. She healed Brennen."
Seems to me that Healing Brennen is a good way to make a favorable impression on Tink

Emily approaches Tink as behind her Ka'lion begins to make trips to his horse with anything that takes his liking from the house (search roll).
"uh, Hi?" Emily looks back down at her magical compass, which doesn't seem to shine at Tink. "I'm Emily."

Most items of obvious wealth have been removed but while searching through the rooms Ka'lion notices a floorboard that can be pulled up.
Beneath, coated in dust, there is a heavy leather tome. The book is chained shut with barbed wire and several locks.
(is Ka'lion still using his hat of disguise?)

Ka'lion should of turned it off by now. But it's still up in case the ogre mage is in the area. He still hassent decided that Emaly isn't the ogre mage. And no he doesn't trust her yet. So his back should never be her direction at least until the rest of the party arrives to assist him.

While speaking to Tink Emily adds, "I don't mean to alarm you unduly, but i'm pretty sure I don't have the only one of these". She looks down at the magical compass, "though I don't know how close it has to be to work, and Merebas is quite a way away".

Ka'lion casts detect magic on the changed up book to see if it is magical booby traded - although he doesn't think it will. be. But when he looks around the room afterward he should spot all the magic items and spells Emily is wearing. He's not interested in stealing anything - just being careful. Something else could be magical in the area.
Did Ka'lion find any tools such as wire cutters or hammer ax or chisels while searching? He should be able to get the book out those tools.

The book is magical - strongly magical. It is not held down but held shut and appears to have been here undisturbed for a great length of time, likely longer than the previous occupants of the mill (which itself is a particularly old building).
What he sees of Emilys magic is the same as Brennen and Tink.

"Can I have a look at that?" asks Brennen, gesturing at the compass. He'll use identify on it to get a better idea of how it works.

Ka'lion using his ax to cut around the book will dig the book out. For all he knows there's another glyph under weight it.

The compass contains a locate spell, much like one a wizard might cast to locate a lost spellbook. It is quite an old piece and seems keyed to track a spell or form of magic, accurately enough to point out an individual but with no apparent indication of distance. It has no activation.
Brennen concludes that either they or some of the items they took from the cave have been warded, and he remembers the spell that blocked divination surrounding the hidden room. Brief experimentation shows that all of the items contained within the trapped chest carry this ward, and that the compass detects only these items and not the party themselves.

Ka'lion doesn't see how that matters to the party. The stuff may of been stolen. But we didn't steal it. We found it abandoned.

Vadania thinks that it means that anyone looking for those treasures can now find them (or what's left of them), and will be trailing us. Depending on who it is, this might be a problem, or it might be a new ally. She certainly wouldn't mind having more healing in the group. But that's up to Emily and Tink.

Ka'llion took his ax cut around the book about 4 feet radius and removed the floor boards - over kill? Probably - he thinks the books booby trapped - or the bob wire has been poisoned. The next day he can cast detect poison to be sure but for now. He's being as careful as he can be but getting to book. Ka'lion can't resist reading.

Ka'lions familiar returns. It cannot see the ogre but states that there is movement to the east along the path that the party took, horses with riders like those the group killed before. Perhaps following them.
By what the owl is able to communicate they are still miles away but travelling at some speed.
