Wands would be the main thing I can think of to restock up on. Vigor being the obvious one, of course. Grease is a classic but mainly for rogues. Perhaps Protection From Evil, Protection From Energy (fire), etc?

The sailors on the dock are armed and roused by the groups approach, though not openly hostile. One steps to the fore, "Capt'ns not takin' on passengers".Vadania answers, " We aren't here to book passage, we're here to buy magic items. We were told that that this was a merchant ship. So are you selling?"

One shouts back, "wonders beyond imaginin' from lands beyond imagination". Another to his side pokes an elbow into his companion at their apparent lack of creativity while a third shouts down, "if it's magic you want it's magic you'll have to trade, less you have far more gold in those pockets than it looks like".

What items do we plan to trade away?

That's a good question. Do we have a list of party items that haven't been assigned to characters yet? Otherwise this might be a very short shopping trip!

That's a good question. Do we have a list of party items that haven't been assigned to characters yet? Otherwise this might be a very short shopping trip! The partys total haul from the adventure:
Lyrias Spectral daggers, Ciridans Spider Rod, Ciridans Stormstrider Boots, Dragons gloves of Energy Admixture, Dragons Scarab Brooch, Dragons bracers of protection, Dragons shiftweave linen robe, Symbol of Tenebrous
The nagas mask(see invisible) and gauntlets(True strike) Ciridans bow(relic, acid arrow at will)
Plus the dragon and his collection.

If I remember right, we allocated the stuff we got from the dragon, the spider rod, the boots, and I think the daggers. I don't remember anyone getting the bow or the naga's stuff. Anyone remembering differently?
So we have a few items to trade...

That's as I recall it, too. Hopefully we'll be able to get a reasonable bargain for them.

The party reveal their wares from within the cloaks and sacks they had been carrying them in. By this time a better dressed individual, perhaps the ships mage by their curious apparel, had joined those above and after passing a gaze over the group and their possessions he waves them up.
"Right this way then, but any weapons on deck and you'll be going over the side without them", calls out one of the sailors.
The gangplanks lead to a deck perhaps only a quarter of the length of the impressive three masted ship, while the front quarter and the entire back half are entirely enclosed similar to single-story buildings on fore and almost twice that aft, each with a further flat deck in place of a roof.
The mage-like individual approaches, "the captain is indisposed, but fair trade will be met with fair trade. You may make use of the dining hall", he indicates the lower level of the aft structure within which the ship carries an impressive dining table and chairs among other niceties.

"Right this way then, but any weapons on deck and you'll be going over the side without them", calls out one of the sailors. Is he asking us to leave our weapons behind? Or just to keep them stowed away while onboard? If it's the later, then no problem. But the former could be a problem considering that many of us are weapons...

Easily done. We're here to barter, not commit a robbery.
"Thank you for your time."

Scales, lenses and other tools are taken from chests and shelves and placed at once side of the table as a few better-dressed members of crew bring a few items up from the holds below - weapons and armour for the most part, nothing that would be easy to pocket. Other sailors keep to the walls and no doubt more watch carefully outside or lurk below - clearly the ship practices such trade frequently but always cautiously.

Vadania has no intention to try pocketing any of their items, even if she had the skills to do so. But she's not bothered by the scrutiny either. Well not much bothered. Being paranoid, she's always on the alert for ambushes and surprise attacks. So all the eyes on her does distract her from what she's trying to pay attention to.
Being paranoid isn't always an advantage...
She will look over the items offered, and listen to the explanations of what they do (or ask if they are not explained). She will also ask specifically if they have a wand of lesser vigor.

The weapons and armour are relatively mundane, a mix of elemental and raw magical power. Wands are also produced as requested and as with the weapons they are diverse in appearance suggesting that they have been traded and exchanged in the past rather than created by or for the captain.
It is clear though that any treasures or rarities are being held back, at least for now.
(any specific bonuses, items, or abilities can be requested - if they can be afforded)

Step one is the wands discussed earlier, right? Vigor, etc?

Yes, we know from experience that a wand of Lessor Vigor is useful for recovering after a fight. So it's worth replacing the one we've used up.

Neera places the nagas mask and gauntlets, and Ciridans bow on the table first, seeking a sense of comparative value. The princes advisors had given her rough estimations and as a hub of trade Vadania had some confidence in the value that had been assigned
Collectively the three were indicated as worth 10,000 in gold, perhaps more in trade. Of the other items the stormstider boots were valued at 9000, the spider rod at 8000, and most of the rest in the low thousands.
A not inconsiderate fortune all things considered and more than enough for a wand that trades at no more than 750 gold coins, a fact that the crew here clearly recognise as they talk amongst themselves and Vadanias keen ears pick up mention of the captain. It is clear that with even this initial offering the party could afford a dozen healing wands and a small sack of potions and scrolls if their asperations were not higher.

I know that martials in 3.5e also need a fair amount of investment in magical items to keep their combat abilities up. Do any of our melee/frontline need gear upgrades or additional items for different slots?

Don't sell Brenners needs short - both Vadania and Neera are pretty heavy hitters with powerful protective items gathered from several adventures. It wouldn't hurt for Brenner to have a 'back up' option or two outside of his core magic and his staff, particularly for when he runs low on spell slots.
