"George. Gear may help but until we are skilled enough to use it constructively it might as well stay here. We need the skills of very high level beings to have any chance at all. If you really want many of the answers we have. You'd need to send a very fast team with the ability to see in the dark of about 50 to climb into the pit inside the temple of Clearwater. They will die unless they are very good climbers and can see in the dark. Torches are just is not good enough. What they'd find however is a large underground city more then a few miles across, an invisible imp with a very dangerous poisonous tail and unknown numbers of a cross between an elemental and spirit undead that are highly skilled in ambushing creatures and the demons destroyed prison. There may be additional dangers. We didn't encounter. But the greatest danger may be time it's self. When we climbed into the pit for a few hours. We climbed out more then a month latter. It suggests to me that if anyone spent a week down there more then 100 years may pass. So it may be a one way trip." said Ka'lion. "Now you asked us to drop by. Was there a reason?"

Alara looks increasingly puzzled and first Ka'lion and then George ramble on at length, "level 12?" she mutters as Ka'lion continues.
When George finishes one of the men standing near Alara clears his throat and nods towards the paiges to step forwards before anyone else can start talking. Alara looks somewhat relieved, "these are uniforms, of a sort. The last remnants of the old watchguard who lodged in Burr Town in it's brighter days"
The paiges reveal the cloth to be short capes of differing colours and decals, embroidered with elemental decals and still bright and colourful despite their age. There are two dozen in total. "I had hoped these would meet your approval, but if you are short of coin..."
(There are seven different designs of capes in total - fire, cold, lightning, thunder, acid, sun, and moon. Characters can take one, or can take cash. Two the characters experienced eyes the condition of the capes after all this time suggest that they possess some form of magic)

"We don't need much coin where we need to go next. But if you can tell us more about the old watch guard we may except the capes. Personally I like the moon cape. I like the simplicity of it." said Ka'lion, "But if it what I think it is. It may not be safe to wear. But if it's safe to use Gorrat may be able to get the most out of it."

Altar with lightning comes thunder. The two dance as one, your skills with each my help, but combined that much stronger more.
Garrot you live in the shadows and dark but the blinding sun should blind many as yet another "tool" you could use. The power of lights casts shadows ands lights up a path when one is lost.
the moons light has always favored the elfs and druids, so both an equal claim.
As for me ill take what ever is left for they all have equal vald paths.

Vadania was as confused as the barroness by Ka'lion and Georges speeches, but she was used to them. She thanked the Baroness with "Thank you for this generous gift. May we examine them before we select one?"

"Thank you." says Ka'lion, realising his mistake.

Vadania is now updated, as is Ylva. To make Ka'lion happy she can now out climb anyone else in the party for 40 minutes a day Otherwise she just improved the skills she was already good with. She put her stat point in Wisdom, Ylva put hers in Con (for 4 more HP).

I shall wear mine with honor as did the men who wore it before me that surved your father and brother. I too hope i can honor you as they did him. I ask one of these be given to the captain of the gaurd. It was ka'lions plan that won the day, yet your captains facing adveristy, his leadership should not go unnoticed. The old watchguard had much skill, I hope i can live up to the standard and example they set. thank you for the gifts we will use them well along our long journy.

"The watchguard were an order of spellblades, masters of both sword and sorcery. It is said that each was buried with their sword but their capes they left to Burr Town as a symbol of their continued vigilance."She pauses, remembering the old stories of her childhood, "legend has it that the order had a hidden layer, protected by a barrier of magical energy. Each colour of cape served as a key but it was only a gathering of all seven that could pass, and while the order numbered at least a hundred at it's height each was given a cape in accordance with their nature - such that those of fiery nature, intellectual or impulsive, compassionate or cold - all had to be in accord to pass."One of her advisers chips in, "the songs speak of the cape as both a shield and a strength in time of need, of the order drawing power from their banners to imbue their blades with greater strength for a single great blow. But the orders blades were no ordinary swords, each imbued with fire or frost or thunder."Vadania is now updated, as is Ylva. (as an animal companion Ylva doesn't level up - she just gets 2 HD, 2 armour, and a Str/Dex bonus every couple of levels. Next change at lv6)

"We should speak with some of the orders dead. The order of spell blades may be able to help us. All we need to know is where they died or their decedents live. I think I'll choose a moon cape. Which ones do the rest of you want?" asks Ka'lion knowing perfectly well that only a fifth level or higher level priest can cast speak with dead. But until the rest of the party has learned to cast third level spells. They well just have to learn the hard way.

There are hushed whispers around the court at Ka'lions mention of necromancy, the desecration of the graves of fallen heroes, and his choice of cape.
Alara does not answer his question but nods when a paige looks back to her for guidance before approaching Ka'lion and handing him the cape, it is black with a silver threading and a moon motif, with tiny silver stars barely visible across its surface.
The cape straps across both shoulders and hangs down the left side of the body to knee length, allowing free movement of the arm and broad enough to be secured over armour or robes. Ka'lion can feel a faint but ready magic emanating from the cloak that numbs his arm very slightly. A trained individual could perhaps use it defensively to snare an opponents weapon and it pulls free from the harness if enough force is applied such than an opponent could not simply grab onto it and pull the wearer to the ground.

Garrot bows respectfully and says "I would be honored to accept the cape with the sun emblem if no one else wants it!"

There is a brief pause as the paiges search for the shortest of the sun capes before handing it to Garrot - the cape still reaches almost to his ankles but shouldn't interfere with his movement, though the shimmering white and gold cape would be a poor choice for stealth.
Like Ka'lion he can feel a dormant power from the cape, though his brings a slight sensation of strength and warmth.
(I should add that there are multiples of each cape)

Vadania thinks to herself, oO(So Ka'lion thinks of himself as loony and Garrot thinks of himself as sunny, both sound reasonable). Not being introspective enough to know her own personality Vadania asks if she may touch the various cloaks.
If permission is granted, Vadania will examine each of the cloaks touching it to see if one resonates with her more than the others. If not she pick the one that seems most in tune with nature either in feel or in pattern.
OOC: the best one word description I could come up with for Vadania is "responsible", which didn't fit any of the cloaks.
OOC2: The spreadsheet I'm using for Vadania listed +2 skill points and +1 Stat points for Ylva (don't know which level that showed up). If this is not correct, I'll remove them again.

Vadanias reaction to the sun and moon cape are the same as the others, the fire cap feels warm, the ice cold, the lightning and acid both tingle slightly though the first is intermittent and the latter is a continuous thing, and finally the thunder cloak seems to press and move ever so slightly against her arm. She wonders, given the indication that the cloaks gave strength in times of need to those with magical weapons, if the power they contained needed to be channelled through a spell or weapon. That being the case perhaps Garrots spear or Ka'lions dagger would respond, or even the flame wand. OOC2: The spreadsheet I'm using for Vadania listed +2 skill points and +1 Stat points for Ylva (don't know which level that showed up). If this is not correct, I'll remove them again. That would be for adding 1 hitdice to an existing monster/animal, whereas animal companions just get arbitrarily more powerful as the druid goes up levels

Ka'lion does not think of himself as loony so much as thinking about the benefits that the cape might offer. Such as night vision or an additional shape shift form or shade while in the hot sun. But he's beating that the sun cape has light related benefits. And Ka'lion does not think of Vadania as responsible at all. Just naive. That's the one word he'd use to describe her.

It may well be that the Thunder cloak would react that way to anyone touching it, but it seemed as if the cloak wanted her. "May I have this one please?" asked Vadania, indicating the thunder cloak that had moved against her arm.

The thunder cape is a blue-grey and silver in the outline of clouds, perhaps the most elaborate of the patterns. Altar looks over the capes as Vadania passes each on, pausing to consider thunder, lightning, and fire before opting for the blue and silver of lightning.
As each cape is tried the group begins to look equal parts heroic and ridiculous in their multicoloured capes. Only George has yet to choose his reward.
