"Ka'lion!?", the shadow continues to batter Elika as she cries out for help, probably wondering why so little was forthcoming.

(5th level upcoming, Ka'lion certainly needs it given his lack of ability)

"Ka'lion attacks the shadow on Elika - he has no idea why she is not using the cure ward its the best weapon the party has to fight the shadows. "Use the wand ideit! I hate fighting these things. Everytime I do I can't hit the broad side of a barn!" shouts Ka'lion pissed off.

The anger seems to help Ka'lion as his weapon has an appreciable effect on the shadow, causing it's form to waver briefly. However even as it does so Elika rises and strikes it from behind from her wand causing it's form to grow solid once more - clearly this is not an undead creature despite it's appearance and it lashes out at Ka'lion in retribution (5 damage)
(Knowledge - arcane optional. Though even without a test Ka'lion can see that these things are little like the phantasms he fought at the inn, and their strikes leave deep gashes rather than a numb weakness)

Ka'lion suspects that the creature might be some form of elemental, from a demi-plane such as that of shadow or perhaps even deeper. He knows that such creatures are often somewhat difficult to damage with mundane attacks, though his attacks seem to be having some effect - perhaps this one isn't large enough to pull itself back together as easily as more powerful examples of it's kind.
As Ka'lion and Scar team up to strike a the elemental it flickers away, reappearing behind Ka'lion to strike from ambush but the barbarian has seen them do this enough times to be wary of it and just manages to evade the strike. Free momentarily of danger Elika unleashes another pair of magic missiles that strike and seem to disperse the creature ... though it could perhaps be hiding in the shadows. Ka'lion is cautious but for now it would seem that only the larger elemental fighting the archer remains.

"Let's see what we can do about the last one. Keep your eyes open they tend to strike from behind. Hopely we've injured it enough for it to run away but don't count on it."

The shadow creature ignores you and your inept pet wolf as it continues to battle with the archer. He seems skilled with his sword but his strikes have little effect. Elika quickly gulps down another healing potion, one of her last few, and casts a spell of some sort with no visible effect. [Tag all]

The shadow creature continues to ignore Ka'lion, but cannot ignore Elika as she reads off a spell from one of her scrolls, another blast of burning fire like the one she used against the undead. It vanishes away, appearing next to her to strike but it is too large to hide behind her as the archer drops his sword and draws another arrow - the shot enough to disperse it before it can do much more damage.
The newcomer scans the area for more, but the coast seems clear for now.

"I'm ok, but we should keep moving", she turns to the archer, "thanks for your help".
The newcomer merely makes a shallow nod while recovering their weapon, "fair compensation for leading me here"

"Will I'm in bad shape. One bad hit by something powerful and I'm dead. So I'm returning top side unless we can find somewhere safe to hold up over night down here." said Ka'lion, "The last time I was down here an imp nearly killed the entire party by it's self."

"An imp?" Elika's expression suggests neither surprise nor disappointment, but rather an acceptance that Ka'lion could not be relied upon if things turned ugly.
The newcomer does not comment but instead points towards a light not far from their position, a different hue from the reddish fires that illuminate the city, "there, magic that is not of the same nature as these creatures"

"An imp?" Elika's expression suggests neither surprise nor disappointment, but rather an acceptance that Ka'lion could not be relied upon if things turned ugly.
"That imp nearly killed six of us by it's self! We can't out run it. It's to fast and it can shapechange into a number of invisible creatures. Don't be surprised that I want to live to old age Elika. I came here to make sure you didn't get killed. I like you but this is a rescue mission and unless we get very lucky we are not going to succeed. We don't have any back up and we don't know why the archer is here yet. And it sounds to me like he's for loot. I'm not."

"I have no interest in looting human. I am a hunter, I have followed a storm of great arcane power to this point and now I would follow it back to it's source."
They turn as if watching something move further down the street, though Ka'lion can see nothing and the archer does not raise their bow. It is enough to encourage the group to move on however and they work their way quickly though the dark streets towards the out of place building - revealed to be a tower of sorts and made in a style similar to the rest of the buildings. It has weathered the ages far better however and remains intact, windows of glass all misted over and a simple wooden door, closed, with a brass knocker held in the mouth of an iron wrought dragon's head.

Ka'lion chuckles, "I've the found the door of my dreams and now I've found the knocker of my dreams. And I’ve even found two golem's I’d like to have. It's to bad I have nowhere to put them yet. Ooh well. I just love cool structures. It's perfect for a retired wizard. Now let's see it if it's trapped. Do you see any holes that could be used for poison or like a wand?"

Ka'lion carefully searches around the door, finding it slightly ajar. There is no keyhole nor any indication of one concealed in the frame.
As he searches the air grows colder, at first imperceptibly, but as he concludes his search the other are already keenly peering around for another attack.

The door pushes in slightly and then stops, barred by something beyond. The obstruction doesn't feel completely solid and might budge if shoved but it's not the door that is stuck - something is blocking it.
