( Zem has no clue they have that)
Well it looks like a great evil might be in waitling. I was hoping you may wish to join us and stop it. One more to help prevent another war would save many lives.
The issue is the enemy does not attact direct and has not for a long time. more hidden dagger, evil cultist and my fear is they might be growing in number and power.
My other worry is it may come here, these people took us in, i wish to protect them. yet we could use the extra help. Would u be interested?

The dragonborn looks over the group, sizing them up, and then says, "Sure, sounds like a plan. So you're going to be exploring the ruins around here?"

Insight results: Zem feels the dragonborn is a fine upstanding individual. Barbatos, Bennegar and Stravanya don't trust him.

Post by Bennegar Moore on May 26, 2015 0:34:52 GMT -5
Bennegar had already begun moving away from the group when Lizzy shivered on his back. He hesitated, and suddenly felt a shiver of his own go up his back. Something wasn't right about that dragonborn... Lizzy had noticed something. He wasn't sure what it was, but something about the man made his crystaline skin crawl with discomfort... He decided to postpone his search for knowledge in order to stay with the group. He kept a hand on the tome at his side, just in case. It would remain conspicuously there for the remainder of their time in the city, unless otherwise occupied.
He strode up to the dragonborn, oozing confidence that was not his own, (Lizzy may have been influencing him slightly), and bowed slightly, his hand still firmly on the spine of his tome. He opened his make-shift mouth with a gently splintering sound and spoke audibly. "A pleasure to have you, dragonborn. What arts do you practice?" He tapped the tome at his side, his face unmoving as he stared up into the dragonborn's eyes. "I'm a mage, by birthright, though I still prefer the spear over most other weapons..." His gaze never wavered from the dragonborn's, delivering a message of warning in it, should the man be insightful enough to notice it. He went on. "These adventurers delivered me from the jaws of a group of gnolls. I owe them my life, to be sure... A debt that shall be repaid in whatever way they require." He steps back and bows once more. "And a debt that you are welcome to assist in repaying, should you desire. For now, I take my leave." He bows to the group, shooting Zem a look of warning, (at least, he hopes it's taken that way), and begins walking away. "If you need me, I shall be taking up a desk in a library or guild. I shan't stray too far; our warforged ally will likely remain where he was until we go to collect him, I imagine... If all else fails, I will meet up with you at a later time. Farewell!"
((I've been so busy lately, I'm not sure if I'll have time to post much, so Benny is going to be researching his aforementioned magicks for Lizzy's sake. I'll try to pop back in once the group heads toward the next encounter, but if I can't, I'll let you know, at least, and you can go without him. =D ))

Zem takes it that benny has picked up on something that he did not.

Barbatos watches on, getting somewhat used to odd companions and confident in his own ability should things turn sour. Still this dragonborn seemed like trouble and he was clear he was not the only one to have noticed.

Zem was thankfull his friends had his back, obviously if they had a bad feeling about someone he needed to to take that consern seriously.
Zem had hoped for the best with the dragonborn. Yet with each passing moment his friends became bit more stand offish.
Zem knew they had to have a good reason for doing so tho he was bit dissapointed that this dragonborn my not be one of the good guys after all.

"Yes. The ruins look very promising. Although I'd like to start by looking at some local historical records. This city has been rebuilt so many times that we could be standing right on top of something vital as we speak. Are you perhaps from Sarnath? where would such records most likely be kept?"

The dragonborn answered Bennegar, "Nothing so fancy as a mage, I simply hit things with whatever weapon is available until they stops moving."
He answers Stravanya, "I don't think the goblins keep records. They just scavenge the rest of the old town for building material as needed. I'm from far south of here, perhaps a month of steady traveling. The goblins let me stay as long as I can pay my way. Fortunately there seem to be many old ruins around here, I've been able to find enough coin and other valuables during my stay."
To be clear, the dragonborn shows no intention of immediate hostility (Which is all Zem is picking up), but it might not be safe to be alone with him. And definitely is not someone you can trust to risk his life to save everyone else.

"What brings you so far from your home?"
"As you are presumably aware, the choice of one's battle companions is always a heavy one. It would be unwise to venture into dangerous places together without knowing each other more thoroughly. I hope you take no offense, but I believe we were too hasty in offering to join forces with you just yet."

"But how do you get to really know someone other than in dangerous situations?" objected the Dragonborn. "A game of 3 dragon ante isn't going to tell you how someone will fare in actual combat."

( She is so not the diplomatic one lol, Tho i think this has turned quite interesting)
" What i think she means is that your not very forth comming about yourself or who you are or what you can do. I get to most think that kind of questioning is personal but to join us we need to know the kind of person you are. That is why She nicly asked her questions the way she did. Not Doing so only made her and my friends here more sceptical of you. She is not one to beat around the bush or put up with others trying to hid things from her. I was hoping you could convince them as well as myself you were an ok person. Your advoidence means you got things to hide. It not my place to out you, but it is my place to protect my friends. So to be blunt if you can't/wont be honest with us and to get us to trust you its best we part ways now."

"I have been nothing but honest with you," says the dragonborn visibly upset. Although everyone other than Zem can tell that is being upset is just an act. On the other hand, it does seem that everything he has told them so far is factually correct. On the gripping hand, he hasn't mentioned anything about loyalty to companions.

" I think he might works solo given no one travels with him. I use too before i meet up with all of you.
My team and i mean no disrespect to you. Yet begaving such as you are does not instill much trust.
What i find it odd for dragonborn protect and fight along side eachother . Even the not so nice ones fight as a unit. Or they use to where i come from.
Its clear your not millitary otherwise you would be with a unit.
So i venture you may have deserted the army and dont want others to know, so you lie bend truth to stay alive.
I get you think your being honest. I get u might fell disrespected not our intent but so does she from the way you have acted thus far.
I can tell She has been lied to quite a bit as have I in our past. others may have turned on her cause i can say some have in my past. Yet her question is still vaild one. Yet i get the felling you might try to advoid that one too. If you do please know it will only upset her more and nothing i say at that point will ease her mind about joing up. I stongly urge you not too and just for once stop advoiding things, The choice is yours "

The dragonborn is taken aback by Stravanya's question. Stravanya is sure that she has him pegged correctly.
After Zem adds more comments the dragonborn recovers enough to say, "Yea, I think I'll stay solo. You guys can find your own ruins to loot."

" We are not looters, explorers might be a better fit.
Staying solo with no one to watch your back is only a fools mistake. I learned that the hard way as will you someday. A lession i hope that does not end up costing you your life.
I bid you a good day."
( To be clear its not a threat, just bit of wisdom about being alone.)

The dragonborn replies, "I have traveled alone for a long time now, having only myself to fend for and to depend on. I get by." He then goes about his business.

As the dragonborn made his way away, a call swept though the crowd. It started soft and distant at first, but was repeated closer and closer. "Mornontormarux. Mornontormarux. Mornontormarux!" Upon hearing the call, everyone looked into the sky. Then they started moving. Not a panicked move, as might be the case of eminent attack, more like a drill. Those with bows got them ready. Everyone else started moving to cover, or at least close to cover.
Looking up into the sky, all that could be seen was a blue dot moving against a blue sky, hardly visible.
Zem recognizes the phrase as draconic, meaning "Divine enchanted lightning"
