Early in the morning the group trudges up the hill to Moonstone Keep, the seat of the local government (#8 on the map) and the barracks for the city guard. Those guards on duty were a bit nervous about the unexpected approach of 5 armed and armored people approaching. They relaxed when informed that you were joining Hurick on his mission, and sent someone to fetch him.
Inside the keep, Hurick, Beth, and Shen were just finishing breakfast when word game that he had visitors waiting.
Soon the entire group was marching though town to and across the Five-Arch Bridge to get across the Nentir river. On the other side they reach the toll house guards the western side of the bridge (#5 on the map). There members of the guard asked for a 1 cp per person toll. But Hurick stopped anyone from paying the toll, insisting that the entire group was on official business for the Lord Warden. Sergeant Thurmina out ranked Hurick currently, but Hurick was bigger and more intimidating. After a few moments of heated discussion, Sergeant Thurmina decided it wasn't worth the hassle to argue with an orc and she let the entire group though without another toll.
Passing a large new building of fieldstone and timber, the group left Fallcrest behind. It took an hour to get past the farms that supported Fallcrest, after that the old king's road became much more wild.
By late afternoon the group has traveled 15 miles from Fallcrest into the wilderness to find the once-sprawling manor now known as the ruins of Kobold Hall. Inside the keep, you find a trapdoor at the base of an old guard tower. It must lead beneath the ruins.

I hope I portrayed Hurick correctly here. Since he has a background of Thug and is frequently busted in rank (and frequently promoted), I thought bullying the toll collector seemed appropriate. If not I can edit that part.

Bishop looks to Hurick to see how he wished to proceed - this was his command.

If not I can edit that part. That seems like something he'd do. Especially if he may have been in the army longer than this sergeant and been responsible for training him himself.

Bishop looks to Hurick to see how he wished to proceed - this was his command. Hurick looks to the shadier person with the unusual background and stifles the urge to say "you're the burgler... go in and... burgle something" and instead quietly says "Scout around and see if there are any sentries; if it is clear, come back and work on this door- check for traps, listen, then if necessary, convince it to open for us without any loud arguments."

"Oh yeah, send the little guy in. I get it."
Lincoln looks down the hole, and assuming he thinks is is safe to jump, will attempt to do so. If not he will pull out his rope and head down. If there is a ladder or stairs, as opposed to a hole in the ground, he will sneak forward.

OOC: Actually Hurick was asking the little guy to look for sentries, then traps on the trap door, then open the trap door quietly. He didn't ask the little guy to go in first. Lincoln will need to at least open the trap door before he can enter.

I'll be back in a jiffy.
Lincoln looks for sentries first. Assuming there are no sentries, he will then look for traps on the trap door, then open the trap door quietly if he believes the traps have been disarmed and/or the traps are non-existent.

The Cloak Wood has overrun the grounds with trees goring in the midst of abandoned gardens and courtyards. This provides plenty of hiding places for sentries, but Lincoln can find no sentries, nor any signs that sentries are frequently posted.
Returning to the trap door, Lincoln can see that this trap door is frequently used. There are worn paths in the vegetation from here along with signs of use (such as no debris on the door, and more debris where it would flip open. Inspecting the trap door, Lincoln can see no signs of any traps. Listening he hears nothing from below. But the hinges look old and rusty and likely to squeak. So Lincoln applies some oil before he quietly opens the trap door (with some help from others, it's a big 10x10 trap door).
This reveals a stone staircase descending into the darkness. It's wide enough for 2 people to go side by side and still have room to fight (10' wide).

Though well armed and armoured Bishop will allow the more seasoned warriors to choose their place. With a potentially confined space below the group will want it's best fighters in the fore.

"So Lincoln will have to be in front to check for traps, right? Shen and I will be right next to him with a shield wall," says Beth. "No worries, Lincoln, we've got your back."
Beth will happily take the vanguard with Lincoln, as her AC, HP, and Dexterity saves are all relatively high. Shen should be right behind them, since his shield style could potentially protect the front line from a trap or ambush.

"Aww, you already know my name. I'm flattered. The good thing about me being in front is that your friend can easily see over me."
Lincoln stands in front, and will head down *stealthily* once everyone is ready to get going.

Elir knows outside was in his wheelhouse but inside well not as great.
In a soft voice: " sir where would you like me?"

Aegis, given that he's unsure about the other people in the group, is making sure to stay somewhere to the side, and back, waiting patiently for any orders that might be given to him. Looking over to Hurick, he remained somewhat silent, making sure, for now, to keep his eyes on what the group was doing.

Given I have a halberd, I will take second rank (of the main party, figuring the scout wants to be a bit ahead of the group). "Good that you remembered your training about the shield wall, Beth! You may make a solider yet. If anything gets close enough to make trouble for you, I'll make trouble for them."
Joe, if we are doing the thing where PCs can give inspiration, can I give one to Beth for remembering her training and proving herself?
