With the goblins in full retreat the area is relatively quiet, and Ka'lion notices something he hasn't heard in a long time - birdsong. It would seem the druids hold on the creatures of the fell, or perhaps the reason for their flight from the land, was at an end.

So should Brennen and Vadania be talking? From what I can tell Ka'lion pushed Brennen into Vadania's room / Vadania's path, introduced him by name, and then ran off to the stables.

Ka'lion introduced them as a possible member of the party. He left so they could talk without his imput.

"Hello Brennen, I'm Vadania" says the white haired elven woman (picture available in character section). "So you are considering joining us?"

"Pleased to meet you. I am indeed looking for a party to join, if you'll have me," says Brennen.

Vadania answered, "Well we can certainly use more help, especially since Ka'lion has convinced Lynette to leave. So what did Ka'lion tell you about us and what we do?"

"He said you're, quote, a party that make a difference for the better," says Brennen. "So if you're on the side of Freedom and Good, I think we'll get along fine."

Vadania chuckles, "I think that describes everyone I've worked with except for Ka'lion. I've never been able to figure out what he's working for. But yes, I try to improve things here. I was there when the first demon was released, now I do what I can to thwart him. Here we've recaptured a demon and restored this stronghold to what's left of the order of the flame. That's where Ka'lion got burnt. Before that we rescued the heir to Burr Town from goat men. Though the demon possessed leader had already killed most of them."

"I'll admit, I have little firsthand experience with demons or other outsiders, but I have studied them," says Brennen. "My mentor always said that knowledge is power, so I studied a lot of things. I'm pretty good at identifying monsters. Spells, too."

"Not my specialty. I figure, why punch someone in the face when you could be raining death ray lasers on them from above? I didn't complete the Walk of the Four Winds so I could fight on the ground." Brennen extends his wings proudly.
"I try to keep myself protected with these," he adds, opening a flap on his jacket. The room fills with shadows. "Moonstones, I like to call them. They can even obscure darkvision. I'll let you in on a secret, though--they're really just ordinary rocks with a quick enchantment stuck to them. You can have some if you like."

"Interesting, you cast darkness about you while I cast light. I wonder what happens when we do both at once?" Vadania pulls out her sunlight shard to see what effect it and the darkness have on each other.
I'll let the GM figure that one out, but better we find out now then in a combat...
"The problem is I'm not good at melee fighting either, and Ka'lion's first response to an attack is to run away from it. Which means that no one is keeping the foe off of us ranged fighters. Ylva <pets wolf> fights in melee, but she needs someone to fight with. I can fight in melee if I have to, but I'm not very good at it."
"You wouldn't happen to know anyone else around her that likes fighting up close and personal would you?"
"Also, what do you know about fighting skeletons?"

" Interesting, you cast darkness about you while I cast light. I wonder what happens when we do both at once?" Vadania pulls out her sunlight shard to see what effect it and the darkness have on each other. I'll let the GM figure that one out, but better we find out now then in a combat...The higher-level spell generally wins. Darkness beats light, daylight beats darkness, and daylight and deeper darkness cancel each other out temporarily, returning the overlapping area to normal lighting conditions. " The problem is I'm not good at melee fighting either, and Ka'lion's first response to an attack is to run away from it. Which means that no one is keeping the foe off of us ranged fighters. Ylva <pets wolf> fights in melee, but she needs someone to fight with. I can fight in melee if I have to, but I'm not very good at it." " You wouldn't happen to know anyone else around her that likes fighting up close and personal would you?" Brennen shrugs. "I know a lot of people, but nobody around here. Aren't you a Druid, though? Can't you just...I dunno, turn into a bear? Or summon some bears? Or both?"" Also, what do you know about fighting skeletons?" "One of the first undead I learned about," says Brennen with a sagely nod. "My old teacher had a rhyme that he taught me so I'd learn the difference between skeletons and zombies: 'Sack of meat, cut like wheat; pile of bones, crush like stones.' See, zombies are vulnerable to slashing attacks, while skeletons are vulnerable to bludgeoning attacks. There's other differences too...zombies are slow, but skeletons aren't. But the main thing to know if you're fighting them is bludgeoning. If you try to slash or stab them, the blade will just go right through the space between the bones. They also have a lot of immunities on account of being dead, so, for instance, they can't be poisoned or suffocated or whatnot."(Brennen has a 23 on Knowledge (Religion) by taking 10. Yay for smartness!)

The light of Vadania's shard pierces even the strongest of Brennen's magic, rendering him clearly illuminated (daylight heightened to 5th level)
As for warriors, Brennen has encountered a few individuals that might match the description but most were simple caravan guards, mercenaries, or armed commoners who have come here with the other travellers over the past two days. The mage guard too of course, and one other individual - a young woman wearing a mask, escorted by a particularly large grey wolf than Brennon suspects is a worg.

But I can only change into a bear once per day, and while it would allow me to hit hard in melee, bears are fairly easy to hit in return. Plus while I'm in animal shape I can't talk or use any of my other options." " Also, what do you know about fighting skeletons?" "One of the first undead I learned about," says Brennen with a sagely nod. Would a Flame Blade affect skeletons? What about magic missiles?"

Vadania realizes that she needs more than a simple guard that even she could easily defeat. The young woman with a mask sounds interesting, and Vadania sees her having a wolf companion as a good recommendation. For some reason she's fond of wolf companions :-) Vadania will try seeking her out after she finishes talking to Brennen. Brennen is welcome to come along if he likes.

"Well, a bow could work if you had special bludgeoning arrows, but yeah, normal arrows are a poor choice. Energy damage usually works fine against skeletons as long as it's not cold damage--without any flesh on the bones, there's nothing to freeze. Fire and lightning and force damage should be fine... although it's possible for a necromancer to ward their minions against that sort of thing, if they're willing to put the resources towards it. Positive energy also hurts undead instead of healing them, so you could attack them with cure light wounds and such--it won't necessarily be more effective than a normal offensive spell, but it's an option in a pinch."
