Let's just move as a group.

Vadania switches targets to the fire gem, high up on the ship it could not be hidden no matter which direction it turned to face.
Neither she nor Brennen can see the result of the magical bolts through the swirling fog but she believes they struck true.

Brennen also attacks the fire gem.

The lightning orbs continue to strike at Brennen and Vadania, though their power seems to be slowly fading over time (6 damage Vadania, 9 Brennen, Ref save DC17)
The ship is still visible through the fog thanks to Tinks repeated use of faerie fire but this new casting reveals something else, a storm forming on deck that seems to be connected to the two damaged gems but not the third undamaged one.
With all attention on the ship, and with the swirling fog, nobody notices the two small fire elementals creeping up on the party until one of them strikes at Ylva (6 damage) while the other lashes less effectively at Brennen. To Brennens eye they don't seem properly formed, more animated smoke and fire than actual elemental.

Ylvas bite is enough to destroy the magic holding together one of the elementals. Though a little scorched by the experience she is unharmed.
The party can also see that as the crystal is damaged the connection to the storm on deck grows stronger.

Vadania asks, "Brennan, what do you make of that storm on deck that grows as we injured the gems? Is it the bound elementals breaking free of their prison?"

Brennen believes that if all three of the gems are sufficiently damaged the elementals might break free - judging by what he can see of the first two they seem bound together and unable to individually escape.
If these are indeed summoned elementals then the magic sustaining them would soon wear off once released causing them to dissipate, but until that time they would likely continue to fight and Brennen is unsure of the capabilities of such a composite entity (Know:The planes)

Planes: JUVjC3lop_1-20+8 For Tink: p_1-20+6
But I think we already know they're not summons or they wouldn't be able to pass through Tink's magic circle against evil, unless they have spell resistance, or they're good-aligned and just confused. Edit: I guess spell resistance actually wouldn't do it, since it's a (Su) effect.1-201-20

Neither Brennen nor Tink as sure what they might face. The only such creature Brennen had heard of was dubbed an omnimental that emerged from the depths of the southern wastes long ago, but that was a living storm of vast size and destructive power. He does not recall how or if it was defeated but does remember tails of rains of fire suggesting that the fire aspect of the elemental would be most dominant if released. [Tag Brennen and Tink, including Brennens save]But I think we already know they're not summons or they wouldn't be able to pass through Tink's magic circle against evil Magic circles only stops physical contact (i.e. an elemental punching or grappling you) but not other forms of attack (including weapons and magic) and ends the moment you make an attack against them.

Focus fire (teehee) on the fire gem. 5-foot step if necessary. Frightful Blast: 7oVIq2xDp_1-20+6(+1, +1) for p_1-6p_1-6p_1-6p_1-6(+2, plus fear)Tink takes one of Brennen's darkness stones and readies an action to briefly cover it long enough for Ylva to attack without the 20% miss chance. But I think we already know they're not summons or they wouldn't be able to pass through Tink's magic circle against evil Magic circles only stops physical contact (i.e. an elemental punching or grappling you) but not other forms of attack (including weapons and magic) and ends the moment you make an attack against them. Well it basically stops any melee weapon attacks without 15+ feet reach, since they can't enter the circle, but sure, ranged attacks, yeah.1-201-61-61-61-6

The remaining tiny fire elemental lurches at Ylva who jumps away, a third of the small elementals visible beyond emerging from the fog - which is starting to turn into a choking smoke as the flames around the lake burn the foliage whipped up by the swirling wind. The fog itself is at least beginning to clear.
The orbs of lightning continue to relentlessly chase Vadania and Brennen wherever they go, slowly wearing them down. The sound of thunder overhead suggests another strike is also building up. (7 damage Vadania, 4 Brennen, DC17 Reflex save for half - Brennen also has one to make from the previous round)

Fire gem or the other gem?

Whichever is the easier shot, I guess?

Whichever is the easier shot, I guess? Equally easy - the fire gem has already taken a significant battering and the encounter changes depending on whether one gem runs out of hitpoints before all gems are damaged to a certain point.

Let's see what happens if the fire gem breaks before the other two. What's the worst that could happen?
