The path to Ka'lions family is a long one as he lays out the destination to George. A small, magically concealed conclave of necromancers at the heart of pale wastes, also known as the blasted wastes - a vast scar on the surface of the world created in an ancient magical battle (actually fallout from events on the outer planes).
Far to the south beyond Merebas, the most direct route by land would take the group along the path they had previously travelled before past Burr and into Merebas, and then along the eastern edge of the empire into the wilderness beyond. Alternate routes included heading north and then west to the port of Blacksand to charter a ship along the western coast, or seeking out teleportation magic.
Seemingly eager to depart before Vadania and Brennen began their dive George turns to Ka'lion to determine how they were to proceed - by land, by sea, or by magic ?

By magic - that's how Ka'lion got here. You will have to specify which direction you are heading in, or what other method you are using to advance this goal.
I also assume you are leaving the figurehead, or is Ka'lion going to try and strap it to his horse?

Ka'lion will sell the figurehead to the party or take it with him.

towards my grandmothers home ok - but north and west to take the sea route, south through Merebas, or back to the tree to try and contact Berith for teleportation? The figurehead sale will have to be done in the other thread.

Ka'lion indicates his suggested route to George - a simple matter of retracing the route he, Vadania, and Brennen had taken to get here along the river and road and then through the forest until they reached a spot marked on the map near the monastery. A few days of travel and clear enough until they reached the forest edge.
(Ka'lion believes that the return journey along the original path can be made in two days at a brisk pace - and once other matters have been settled here, such as the ships figurehead, i'll jump the game ahead the two days it takes to get there unless you fancy one final Steadlands-related random encounter.)

Once away from valley the group sets course north, turning east before reaching the mill to avoid contact with the ogre mage should he still linger and any who might be watching the cave. The terrain through here is more difficult but with the horse so heavy loaded the pace is slow enough that it makes little difference.
The journey takes three days in all, the party using the owls to spot and avoid contact with other travellers or potential threats. During this time Ka'lion fills George in on the Pale Wastes, a vast salt-flat that was once an ocean. The whole area is a place of great elemental instability prone to sudden rainstorms, thunderstorms, duststorms, and even firestorms. The land shifts and cracks and in places vast trenches seemingly miles deep block unwary travellers or worse still hide beneath a thin layer of ice or rock, magic of all types is unreliable, and the place is largely desolate.
However the wastes are not uninhabited as areas of calm either natural or magically formed make excellent hideaways for any who do not wish to be found, and the elemental storms themselves form crystals and flora of strange and powerful magic that wizards and adventurers alike risk much to acquire.
Ka'lion has no illusions that a mage of even Beriths power would be able to teleport him directly to his home but the city of Dahlgur, said to have been built at the location of a once great port city, would be the best place to try and either contact his family with an animal messenger, to find one of the apprentices who have studied there, or to set out into the wastes - Ka'lion can find his path there through the storms, provided he can survive the storms themselves.

Once we get to the tree and are ready to teleport back home Ka'lion will release the animals to reduce weight. Once they arrive in his world he'll call a new animal companion and get a horse.

Berith, true to his word, had left the sending stone hidden in the burnt out tree. Seemingly in something of a hurry he does not comment on Ka'lions decision or new companion.
Having dispensed with their animals the group arrives within Dahlgur itself, a sheltered rooftop with a distinctive pattern of tiles. Below them chaotic winding streets of mud and cobble stretch out through markets and workshops of smoke and strange smells, the city build and rebuilt haphazardly over the generations.
Civilized would be a generous term to use for this place, everything for a price but nothing for free and watch your coin pouches at all times.

Does K'lion know where he's going from here?

Does K'lion know where he's going from here? He knows which stars to follow, and how to spot the mirage arcana that hides the oasis. It's not a direct path but rather one that takes a jagged course to avoid the more hazardous build-ups of elemental energy, particularly those where the ground shifts or becomes unstable. The exact travel time varies greatly depending on how the storms themselves clash, horses are not advised but a good tent and a little shelter will see the group through much of what they might encounter along this path - the cityfolk here are not unaccustomed to adventurers taking far more poorly planned detours into the wastes and sell shelters of dragonhide and similar exotic materials. He advises George to stock up for a few weeks of travel, but expects the journey to be shorter.

Berith takes the group down through the building, which appears to be some form of inn. At the ground level they find a ratty looking man that Berith hands a small coin pouch and addresses, "These two need to go into the wastes, see that the are not delayed"
Turning back to Ka'lion and George, "I will have to leave you here, matters have arisen to the east. The stone will allow you to contact me should your efforts to uncover aid or information prove fruitful."
With that final farewell he exits out onto the street while the innkeeper flashes a fake smile towards the group and calls out "boy!", summoning a young labourer from across the room. Ka'lion makes clear what he wants and Shamious chips in on what he thinks they should pay.
The innkeeper offers to provide the animals, transport and provisions for one pound of gold (fifty coins), not unreasonable for a long journey, and also tries to banter and inquire as to the groups intentions and curious possessions.

The man collects up the three offerings eagerly, "i'll make sure you get plenty of food, and make yourselves comfortable - i'll bring you something on the house. You want music maybe, wine? women?", he looks at George and Shamious, "ah, anything you want, Benny can get for you I think".
It's morning here, and will likely take a little time for the requested items to be sourced. The inn room is currently deserted and there is little remarkable about it save for a lack of windows and unusually widely spaced tables.
