The area has been mapped out for many miles in all directions, but only for key landmarks such as large rivers and mountains.
Most of the rest is simply unexplored forest, with the trails of those from the camp marked out showing streams, rock formations, and other things not visible from the sky. Ka'lion asks Arthur about this as he can see up into the sky well enough, but it would seem that the magical mist closes over the forest when viewed from above.
Most paths on the map follow one of two patterns, either following streams and rivers or travelling along and between oddities found in the mythal.
----------------------------------------
Hours pass, and as the sun begins to get low in the sky a few of the other camp members begin to return from their work.

Our group well take a the open unseen areas, but we will need help. Spasificly flat areas that people would likely build on. We will need a team of six and long balls of string, small hammers and spikes, lots and lot's of spikes and bells. We are going to build a net across the flat area's floor at about knee hight. Anything passing through it should bump the strings and if we put bells on the end of the strings we should be able to find anything that lives in those areas.

Arthur notes, "plenty of materials around here to make your own cordage. We do have some iron here but if you need anything in larger quantities you'll have to break it off one of the blocks Rasczak left. He hasn't returned yet, he was looking for signs of natural ores in a rocky area to the north."
"Bells may be more tricky but I guess that is why you brought a blacksmith? What are you looking for?"

"It depends on the unseen area as to how much materials we are going to need but bell's should be easy - chimes should work to. The idea is as creatures pass through an area. They ring the bells and then we check out the tracks left by the unseen creatures and the tracks should give us an idea how big the creatures are in the area. They might even give us an idea what the creatures are." said Ka'lion

(unseen areas on the map apply to any part of the forest that has been over-flown by shapechangers or mages with flight spells but not explored at ground level - not a specific small area)

Tht's why Ka'lion wants to grid it out

Arthur seems puzzled my Ka'lions plan, "even if you could cover the whole island in string, wouldn't the local wildlife disturb it? Is there something you are looking for in particular, invisible creatures?"
(it's a _big_ island)
As Ka'lion and Arthur discuss this plan George notes that some of the other returned mages are preparing tables for a meal and one, a particularly short fellow in a hooded robe, seems to be peering at him quizzically.

"We don't need to grid out the whole thing. Just the flat area's near the water and I want animals to bump onto it. It's the easest way to catalog the animals found on the isles. We need to know what the dangers are." said Ka'lion

" Gentailmen if you could excuse my appstence for a bit, i think someone wishes to ask me a few questions and it would be rude of me not to answer them."
George then sits across from the mages but looks at the interested in him.
" Hi, i'm George, what is your name?"

The figure lifts his hood to reveal and enthusiastic looking halfling, "Vestan" he replies, "Vestan Pance, at your service. I wasn't expecting to see any new faces here."
Meanwhile Arthur helps Ka'lion dig out books on what wildlife they have catalogued so far, though he notes that most of the mages have been more interested in the magic than the animals who to this point have seemed quite mundane.

"Well...", Vestan launches into a prolonged life story of daring adventure, if daring adventure could be defined in terms of cooking, eating, and chasing things only to run away again.
Ka'lion for his part finds no lions amongst the animals of the island though were sightings of what appeared to be wyverns further north. As he reads Arthur is drawn away by a growing discussion/argument between those that have recently returned - it would seem something has been found.
The argument is over a site about a day from camp. The mage who originally located it - Primm - believes that it responds to magical spells, much like the elemental effect George and Ka'lion had encountered, while a second mage - Elman - had travelled there for this most recent moon cycle and insists that it must be responding to something else. Ka'lion had seen Primm's notes on the site earlier, her research had been lengthy.

Ka'lion drops by Georges table, "George we leave in the morning. Bring your new friend. We can use someone with some common sense and the halfling people tend to be good at taking things. We may need that skill. Find out how skilled he is by testing his abilities tonight. Shamious will need to stay here to make small light hammers and spikes for our next project."

" Well I think if he is willing to go on adventures i can find some way to figure how to fit him into our plans/new tasks. So perhaps before we sleep we can figure that out.
I'll be well rested for the trip.
You don't have to prove anything to us you know if u don't want to. You can refuse and i will respect that choice. Know if you truly want to go on the adventure with us we need to be sure of what u know and u can fallow our lead. Is that agreeable to you?"

"George. You don't take a housewife to fight bulls. We need enough information to make good use of his abilities. But we try to be flexable." said Ka'lion, "See you latter."
Ka'lion walks over to the arguing spellcasters, "George and I are forming a team to get a fresh oppion on the location you two are arguing about. Why don't the 2 of you come with us?"

George cant help but see and hear this: just so the two of them him and the mage can hear
" This one is going get really interesting fast not trying to be rude but i have to see this. See ka'lion always means well but he is not a people person, rubs them the wrong way does not mean too. He has a good heart and is there for you when it counts most. Him and i have had some interesting tails in our days. But i can't wait to see him accomplish defusing an argument. Normaly i do that, this will be more of a an accomplishment 4 him then if he had slayed a dragon."

"Primm. I've read your notes. Currently I agree with you. But my partner thinks we are wrong. If Elman believes we are wrong. He deserves a chance to prove it. So am I going to see you both in the morning or are the two of you going to let someone else check your work before you do?” asked Ka’lion

Vestan replies, "oh, i've known him since he was shorter than I, we all have. He has some very strong opinions on magic but he was always too busy chasing one thing or another to focus on his studies."
Elman doesn't seem particularly enthused about leaving camp again so soon, and after five days away he looks a little worse for wear. Primm though wants to return and prove her earlier works.

"Well, then Elman, we will leave in the morning and you can stay here and wonder about us loading the deck in favor of Primms's conclusions. I'm sure you trust us more then your conclusions anyway. We leave at first light should you change your mind. George patch him up so we have a healthy party. I'm only carrying cure minor wounds to stableize someone for emergencies. Of course if we need to talk to the animals I'm your man. See you in the morning. Good night." said Ka'lion turning into a wolf and then circling the camp before getting some sleep.
