Asmodious is the archdevil ruling all the hells from the 9th hell Nessus, a place of flame and lava.
Even though Karsus was long dead the power of a demigod is not so easily banished. The remains of a god or even a near god like Karsus would be a source of great power for those who could tap it, something it appears that Draigdurroch had been working on and had nearly completed.

Zynthis appears bored by all this history talk. "Can't we just find a switch and turn it off?" (Zynthis is referring to the cold) "I'm starting to suspect that the freezing of this tower was done by an outside force. I had been working on the assumption that it was something the owner did, by accident or in desperation, but, considering that he had more affiliation with fire, maybe we should consider the possibility that this was the result of an attack by one of his enemies. Maybe we should go ask these 'fairies' he mentioned. Say, that blizzard was part illusion, wasn't it?" Zack considers. "We should probably collect all of the books we can find here, and check the roof. I still haven't seen any bodies, so either the warlock isn't home, or there is something of a surprise waiting for us up there." By the way, I've kind of lost track of how old the Warlock should be -- to the extent that I don't remember if he should be alive today or dead for centuries.

Harknail thinks this over and asks, "Should not we check out the roof before we gather books?"

Harknail thinks this over and asks, "Should not we check out the roof before we gather books?" "Yes... The roof. We will make our own history up there. We will be heroes and will receive a warm welcome when we return." Zynthis emphasizes the word warm.

The elevator is the same size as the previous one. Just barely large enough for everyone if you squeeze in. Plenty of room for 4 at a time. How do you want to go up. And does anyone want to bring Sart up the the roof?

Mr Drag (if that is who we will fight) should be quite a bada**.

Zynthis says "Why don't me, Thursagan, Harknail and Gabe go up first to develop the line of defense and then the strikers follow as reinforcements?" In Goblin "Sart, Stay here. This fight will be too dangerous."

Gabe smiles "Why Zythis I'm flattered. Apparently my tactical knowledge is rubbing off." He grins and steps onto the platform, "Let's burn" His lips twist into a toothy grin and a fire appears to glow behind his eyes.
I'm totally game for that plan.

This fight will be too dangerous." Zack: "That sounds reasonable to put those who are good at close combat up first. There might be some issue of having all of those with healing powers in one place, though. Well, at any rate, I will agree to it. Meanwhile, I'll be packing up books with Bharash (who has been rather silent)."

Laira Elereth comments, "At least if they are ambushed, they can heal each other. I could always cast some protection magics and accompany the first wave if you want though."

Zynthis replies "That sounds reasonable. Laira, go ahead and join the first wave and I will follow through with backup healing on the second wave."

Laira, Gabe, Harknail, and Thursagan head up to the roof first.
The top of the tower presents a bizarre scene that is strangely beautiful in its own way. The view of the surrounding area is refracted and twisted in spectacular fashion, as if you are standing inside a gigantic prism looking out. Floating several feet above the exact center point of the tower, forming the keystone at the apex of the icy cocoon, is a perfect sapphire, easily the size of a man’s clenched fist.
Above the gemstone, the ice that sheathes the tower draws together into a single point about 20 feet in the air. All around this jutting finger, the air appears to harden into ice and snow, swirling away in all directions as it is propelled by a vicious wind. The clouds above the tower appear to draw energy from the gem, filling them with the pure essence of a winter storm.
The wind whips across the roof of the tower on the inside as well, with each chilling gust accompanied by a pulse of energy that erupts from the sapphire’s heart. The gem’s otherwise flawless surface appears to have been marred by scratches or runes that glow with their own white energy.
The lift has come up in one corner of the tower. In the other three corners are broken shards of ice and stone (difficult terrain). There are also patches of white mist scattered around the roof.

Actually, there was a change in plan. Me and Laira were trading places. Laira wanted to go with the first group to cast some protective magics for the first wave.

Gabe steps off the paltform and looks up at the gem, "I think that's the source of our troubles there." He readies his glaive and moves underneath it, looking up at it trying to decide how best to disable it.

He readies his glaive and moves underneath it, looking up at it trying to decide how best to disable it. This gem is undoubtedly the source of the unnatural weather phenomena. Gabe does not recognize the language of the glyphs carved into the gem. Stepping off the platform Harknail comments, "Me thinks ye all should be up here and have a chance to look at it before touching it."

Well, then, the rest of us should get on the lift and give it a look.
