Can Sanem use a nature skill check to find leaves and such to wrap a sun rod in to reduce its light output?

Prestidigitation can't be used to duplicate Mage Light, but could it be used, say, to cause obstacles in the path, like rocks, roots, and puddles, to glow faintly? A little bit of Hansel and Gretel? The mage would have to be able to see the obstacle in order to have it glow. And it would take a separate instance of prestidigitation per object. I will say that “harmless sensory effects” includes the ability to make light (of any shape or color) that puts out the equivalent of candlelight (dim light with a radius of one square).

Raylynn rubbed her chin for a moment and the little springy clockwork contraption that clung to her shoulder did its best imitation of her thoughtful posture, "Why don't you," she nodded at Zachary, "Give Chii a bit of a glow?" She nodded at the thing bouncing on her shoulder, which at this suggestion had stopped mimicking her and was now giving her its best impression of a stern look, "What I mean is, if you could make her glow something like a candle we'd have a nice small radius of light but nothing too obvious. Of course, dim light in a pitch black pit is just as noticeable from a distance as bright light so maybe all this caution is unnecessary. In any case, light would be good - I've a couple sun rods if you want to resort to that."

If someone else wants magic shield, speak up.“Mayhaps my new shield would look like reflected moonlight,” offered Harknail.

Would that be burst 1? If we are talking 3 by 3, Zack could keep something of a moving path of light in front of him, depending on how many actions he was taking and how many squares he was moving.

Light spells are not meant for animate objects -- but making your familiar glow would only bring more attention to him, and doesn't do much to keep me from tripping over the stones in the path. Though perhaps we should keep in mind the idea of him carrying a lit stone or other item."

Raylynn tilts her head, she looks confusedly at the wizard, "Oh." She says, shocked, "Spells have limitations, glad I quit school when I did." She smiles, "Artificery is only limited by your creativity... Anyway, I'll let you be the authority on wizardry, I'm obviously no scholar."

Sanem listens to the magical type prattle on about this and that for a while, plucks a couple of leaves from a likely vine and wraps them around his sunrod. Nature skill check: "Here."[rand=50962486943902114530450879713389025589738240905384209628199700809]

Yes, that would be burst 1. It would work, but would be much slower than they've been moving.

The leaves block most of the sunrod's light. What shines though the leaves is a dim green glow that looks nothing like a torch or sunrod. It provides dim light in a burst 5 area, plenty for the entire group to move at their normal speed. [I'm assuming simultaneous movement for the group while walking]

Raylynn looks on with inspiration, "What a brilliant idea! I think you've inspired something in me." Her familiar instinctively passes her a quill pen, the tip already dripping with ink and she scrawls a few rudimentary designs on the forearm of her armor.

"This is unexpected (I thought you'd take an extended rest and prepare), but its a very good call on your parts."
Laira would have normally have rested for a little bit, but she is too angry and upset right now (why I had her make the bluff check to sound confident), and wouldn't be able to get any rest after hearing the elder plead for the party to rescue his daughter in any event.
As a minor note, Laira did not ask who was killed or taken or looked at any of the bodies, since she did not want to know right now.

Walking is only about 4 ft/s, and 6 squares per round is 5 ft/s. I thought we were being cautious in the dark.

Walking is only about 4 ft/s, and 6 squares per round is 10 ft/s. I thought we were being cautious in the dark. My impression was that you're following the trail as quickly as you can without stumbling or wearing yourselves out. I don't have the books handy to see how overland speed translates to turn by turn movement. The cantrips may well have worked, but Sanem's solution works for any speed and allows for the group to spread out more.
But on that subject, what precautions (if any) is the group taking to spot any kobold lookouts before they spot the group? A note, the new improved Sart is very good at Stealth, not so good at perception (+12 vs +2). (She was always good at Stealth and Thievery, now she's even better!), but this trail is so obvious that anyone with low light vision could follow it with passive perception.

Sanem is excellent at stealth and perception, and has a spare pair of eyes with Persephone. He will take point; if any danger presents itself he will signal the party with nature sounds and hide without motion. Stealth: Perception{Sanem} Perception{Persephone-no low light vision } [rand=721301752061075858041649000732890246789885674777446180853456057722]

Raylynn, though not terribly observant, is quite good at noticing things that seem out of place almost passively. Though she's frequently mentally distracted, she's not oblivious. [dice=20] +9 = 13 Perception Ok, maybe she's more oblivious than I'd hoped, but the important thing is I have good Wisdom and trained Perception [rand=170289042404965565280160132785928845414097089585110030048343615017]

Sanem is an excellent choice as point man. He needs to close in for the dark patches, but most of the time he can be well ahead of the group. I'm assuming he sets up a couple of signals (spotted kobolds, need help now, etc.) not all of which are nature sounds. I'm also assuming that Persephone is sleeping on his shoulder. She's not much good at night and just can't keep going as long as Sanem can.

Zack: "But...*sigh*...oh, nevermind." Zack amuses himself by trying to see if the crickets stop chirping as the party goes by and using ghost sound to fill in any dead air.
