That is jaw droopingly stupid. Do you realize that this means that, if you are facing a 3 square wide dragon, you have cover from it if there happens to be a pillar next to it on the same side of it as you, even if you aren't next to the pillar? Heck, if a party of 8 surrounds a two square wide monster on all of its faces, all of them would have cover from it.
It's not that bad, you just trace lines from 1 square of a monster, not every square. The monster selects the square, and of course it selects the square that doesn't give you cover (i.e. the square in front of you). I haven't seen any nonsense results from it yet.

No, it specifically says that the Defender gets to pick the square. Actually, both squares, so the cover would be mutual. Though I'm not sure if melee has the same allies-provide-cover thing that ranged attacks do.

+1 from no ally being closer to target.

Though I'm not sure if melee has the same allies-provide-cover thing that ranged attacks do. To keep things from getting too weird, the GM will select squares that provide the least cover, same result as if the attacker picked the best square for them. As you point out, having the defender pick the square can result in nonsense results.+1 from no ally being closer to target. Ah, thanks. I had forgotten about that Warlock attribute.

waiting on die roller Um, the Dollar sign critter is an elf, not a kobold. That's why all of those extra circles are yellow, they are all allies, specifically the captives you are here to free.

By the way, I have started using iPlay4 to store characters. Thursagan is there, and it should be up to date in healing surges, HP and powers used53

By the way, I have started using iPlay4 to store characters. Thursagan is there, and it should be up to date in healing surges, HP and powers used53 I have the entire campaign on iPlay4e here, including another copy of Thursagan. I'm not using it for tracking yet, because it would be too difficult to to send the status reports after each turn for those not signed up (now it's just copy and paste). But it's great for looking up what powers do, better than either the PDF or the Web Site, and much better than firing up Windows so I can look at the Character Builder. And when the next version is released, it will be even better, letting me look at all characters skills or all magic items in a single view.
If anyone would like to send me their Google handle or google account e-mail address, I can add you to the campaign. If we could get everyone on, we could use it for tracking instead of text files. If you'd rather not put your e-mail address on a public forum, just send it as a private message.

There was only one kobold left alive in the room. And it was bloodied. And trapped by Harknail. Who had just been healed by Thursagan. But even with no hope of winning the kobold did not ask for quarter. Nor did Harknail, follower of the God of War, offer any. The kobold strikes at Harknail, but his spear skids harmlessly off the steel plates that make up Harknail's outer layer of "skin". Harknail responds in kind, striking the kobold with a holy strike and smiting it. with a sword ignited in holy light. The sounds of battle fade away as folk look around and realize that there are no kobolds left in this area. After looking around to see that nothing was ready to jump on him, Zack moves to inspect the bodies of the kobolds that seemed to be casting spells.

Raylynn sits down where she is and begins to tinker with her crossbow, adjusting the elasticity of the string and the release mechanism as well as twisting a few bits in the quick load chamber that she'd made herself some time ago. Concerned that the thing was getting worn out, with it's recently failure to strike the thing she pointed it at (because the failure to hit a target could not possible be her fault). Short Rest PS I have 2 infusions left before the rest so if someone needs healing
Raylynn can get you a surge +1 (without spending a surge) but someone else needs to give up a healing surge, or you can give one up yourself.

Thursagan will go with Raylynn to help with the healing, offering his vitality for anyone in need of it. He will let others carry the conversation with the elves, diplomacy is not his area of expertise

Orsik wanders through the dead bodies searching for anything that could help. He learned long ago in the snow covered mountains that you make use of whatever you can find.
He leaves the captives alone, not wanting to talk to them. He had never been great with people and didn't want them to be frightened any more than they already were.
Looking around, "Is that it? I thought there was supposed to be dragons in these caves? I guess rumors are always exaggerated!" Letting out a loud laugh, he continues his search through the bodies.

Sanem looks around the encampment checking to see if the raiding Kobalds "liberated" any elven wine, which he will return to elven hands (notably his own)
