"Don't bother," answered Vadania. "The lizardmen won't follow us here, they are afraid of whatever is radiating magic ahead. We need to keep moving and get out of this area before they get reinforcements and surround this area to keep us from leaving."

Have you ever had a group work so hard at avoiding encounters? I've never had a player work so hard at triggering them
Still, if you can somehow find your way back to town it's level 3 - so don't delay...One vote to stay (Ka'lion), one vote to go (Vadania) - Aelos to decide, unless either of you change your mind.

As much as I'd like to have spells, I don't think we can afford the time to regain them due to 1) we'll be super exhausted for any fight we come across and 2) it wont be enough to deal with the lizardmen. Plus, we don't know what that magical thing is. As much as I'm hoping for a magical puppy that will aid us, I'm pretty sure it's some sort of evil creature that wants to make us into sock puppets and re-enact how it killed us. "We should probably keep moving. I don't much like this place, and the thought of being stuck here between... that... and the lizardmen does not appeal to me."

I think we'd be using all our spells right away to get our HP back!

After everything the group has seen, the walking dead and rampaging fellbeasts, it is decided that this new mystery is best left alone - it has given you a window in which to evade the pursuing lizardmen and it seems best not to press your luck.
For the rest of the day the group travels along the edge of the deep fell, the sunlight that has so long been absent breaks through the clouds at regular intervals but the sky beyond seems somehow colder than you remember it.
No more creatures beset your journey and a half-day out from Clearwater you encounter a patrol of the city guard, they send riders ahead with news and tell you that the quakes have struck across the fell and even now refugees from small outlying villages flock to the city seeking shelter.
Of Navarre and the other patrol there has been no word.

Vadania is glad to reach the town. It wasn't home, and actually kind of stank, but it was a safe place to rest and to plan what to do next. Although she didn't not understand things arcane, she was aware that things were very bad and getting worse. Something had to be done, and there weren't many people available for the doing.

On the way to see Captain Rills and report, Vadania points out to Maddy various points of interested in Clearwater. Maddy most likely finds Vadania's descriptions very entertaining considering how little Vadania actually knows about towns and what happens at the various shops and other establishments. Aelos would also likely find her descriptions interesting (I think this is his home town). Ka'lion may think she's a seasoned villager, and who knows what the Dwarven wizard thinks.

Ka'lion's face is warm and he has largely stopped eating - the mask is just to much of a hindrance and the last thing he needs to constantly be smelling spoiled meat left on the mask after he did eat. He'll chow on grass so he doesn't starve. But he's going to be growing more and more hungry eat day and more irritable as well. What he needs is someone to cast either dispel magic on the mask or a remove curse. He's figured that much out. To conceive his energy he'll start riding Gray Horse again. ride +1+roll=[dice=20] Once in town Ka'lion wants to report and get paid. Then he needs to find someone that can help him with the mask.[rand=81512148422189066608255302999169382012475747615147167755756527185]

Vadania will give Ka'lion a goodberry each day. That gives him a full day's nourishment in a single berry.

Vadania is surprised at the damage evident throughout clearwater from the quakes, though no buildings have collapsed there is fallen masonry everywhere.
One of the more senior guards hears the grave news of the undead, apologising that the Captain himself is away on urgent business at the church in the north of the city. The payment that Ka'lion and Vadania had agreed to is duly offered up - in all 140gp of coins and gems.
While the others collect their reward Aelos travels to the central church to appraise his superiors of the situation, finding a significant number of the city guard - the quakes had damaged the well from which the water the city was famed for was taken, and the walls of the church were badly cracked.
Ka'lion finds that after a day or two the mask no longer smells, nor hampers his breathing, but his nights are wracked with strange visions. His peculiar transformation does not reoccur but his wounds heal with unusual speed.
The group finally gather again at the inn from which Vadania and Ka'lion first set out, a chance to rest and take stock of their situation.
Welcome to Level 3 Ka'lion may choose to take a level of shapechanger druid now, or continue along a different route and seek to remove the mask.
Given an evening to inspect the items they have found Darrian discovers the following: -The wand has a command word, etched in an old elven dialect, that allows it to spray forth a blast of freezing ice. -The reddish crystal seems to draw heat towards it. Darrian has seen such things before embedded into armour and shields to strengthen them, but knows that the strain of the magic itself can wear down inferior arms. -The necklace is a peculiar thing, not easily identifiable but with testing appears to absorb a little of the magic cast around it, restoring it to the wearer. -Finally the bottles, the orange liquids are unmarked but the blue tinted bottle carries a dwarven sigil that indicates vanishing from sight - an invisibility potion.

Just to be clear, is that 140 GP each, or 140 split among the surviving members (Vadania & Ka'lion) for 70 GP each, or some other amount each?

Ka'lion takes shapshifter druid, level three new feat: dodge, skills: concentration 6+2, spellcraft 2+4: [dice=8] Now that the transformations complete can Ka'lion remove the mask. I'm feeling annoyed by him looking silly. "We split the take. Now what? Things are a mess and I need more coin to help the village rebuild. Any suggestions?" asked Ka'lion[rand=3036835463717581846391418948769667518467037007217421309761703014]

Going to do level up later, just got home. Also, did the church recommend anything to me? Otherwise, Aelos will recommend trying to inform the lizardmen of the potential undead horde.

"We already tried to warn them. They attacked and I don't know what they where speaking but it was not common." said Ka'lion

The guards seem indifferent to the plight of the lizardmen given their history to attacking and consuming travellers and outlying settlements, indeed some seem to consider the undead to be a result of the necromancy or witchcraft carried out by the lizards shamans.
With the windows open and the sky relatively clear the inn is a far more inviting and lively place as Madaline sits near the fire playing an narrow, slightly curved horn-like instrument with surprising skill.
Ka'lion pokes at this food, unhappy at his plight and still unaware of how to remove the mask, while Vadania is distressed to hear that the bakery has been forced to briefly shut for repairs though the innkeeper offers a strange honey toffee pudding in place of the crispels.
Not long after Aelos rejoins the group a novice from the church approaches them. Having been made aware of the groups findings by Aelos the bishop has offered to purchase any item of magical power in return for gold or the services of the priests.
If you take their offer the priests will exchange the necklace, wand, or crystal for a +1 shield or suit of light or medium armour, 1000 gold coins, a broach of stability, or a cloak of resistance.
They will remove and keep Ka'lions mask for no charge.
Potions of cure light, Protection from evil, magic weapon, sanctuary, shield of faith +2, bless weapon, aid, bulls strength, lesser restoration, and cure moderate wounds are also available at cost provided at least one magical item is exchanged. They will also bless any weapon with a permanent 10ft light emendation for 100 gold coins, 40 feet for 400 gold coins, or with the light of Pelor for 600 (+1 fire damage).
They will sell divine scrolls and potions to Aelos regardless.

Before Ka'lion makes the mask trade Ka'lion needs to understand what the mask does first. Is there anyone in town able to tell him what is does? In any case, he feels the priests offer is questionable. ( He knows the mask is valuable but he is not sure why.) Besides that, Ka'lion has no interest in weapons or armor. He has more then he needs already. The coin he can use. "We can go after the wizard that kicked our ass and murdered the villagers. What do you think?" suggests Ka'lion

"Ask the innkeeper where all of the towns mages are and I'll buy the next round." said Ka'lion, "I also need to find someone that can tell me how to remove the mask voluntarily. It's changing me and making me powerful and I need to know whats going on."
