Der and Sinister! Truly this is a momentous occasion. Welcome to the boards, gents, it's good to see you here. If you have any questions about ongoing games or anything, feel free to hit me up with a PM or make a general post. Or go bother Shakes, because she loves to get PMs. I would love to play the drums again, Der, believe me. But condo living kind of kills any opportunity to play them, and I think it's been so long since I've played that I'll be a horrible embarrassment. I'd still play, though, 'cause it's fun as all hell to slam on some skins. Glad to see you're still playing music, though. Hope to see you guys in some games around here. Mine are a bit packed, but I hear tell Jolith's going to get a Werewolf game rolling on here. Bug him into letting you join.

Udjat, you need an electric kit! Not a patch on a real kit but you can rig it up to headphones so as not to bother the neighbours.
And welcome to the boards sinisterspiral! Enjoy it here and just jump right in!

Welcome you two! Glad to see you both decided to join up Only took me a little pestering, heh. Anyways, it's really good to have you on board. As TheUdjat said, I am starting up a Werewolf short. Sinister already signed up, but if you're interested Der I still have a few more slots to fill up, so feel free to join in. And no, you don't have to bug me really. Just showing interest is enough for me, heh.

During practice our drummer uses electrics cause we practice in like a concrete room so acustics drown everything else out. But of course during our real gigs we pull the real drums out of the bus because they look and sound better.

Thank you for the warm welcome! I think I'll be spending some time exploring the site and becoming better friends with many of you. Wicksy, I play guitar as well. What style of music do you play and what guitars do you use? Silly guitar plays!! or guitards how ever you like it. you should know that it doesn't matter what you play or do. It's the drummer and bass player that make you sound good!! Haha just kidding i love my guitar players they're the best IMHO but anyways. as for blades well i have one sword for display but carry 4 of my 9 knifes at all times with me. I like the working better than the show but do have some collectors. And i prefer big ones over small ones. Oh and i guess i should say it formaly. Welcome Der and Sinister

Welcome Der and Sinister As it happens, My Warlock is a Bass. I prefer playing bass but I started out with guitar, as it was the only option I had when I started out (learned on my fathers). I used to carry 5 to 9 knives on me at all times, but then I got one of those there "respectable" jobs and the blades had to come off. I have some really nice stuff that I only use as display, but are quite functional, Like my William & Henry.

I started out the opposite. I started on Stand up bass in middle/high school and moved to bass guitar after checking the price on buying a stand up bass after high school. I couldn't play guitar if my life depended on it.

I missed this when I joined up. Better late than never, I suppose. I was born and raised in the gold country of California (where the majority of the population is blond, and I don't think I ever saw a real live black person until high school). My little brother first introduced me to D&D, but I didn't actually get into it until grad school, joining a group with "harknail" and "michael". Truth be told, I'm more of a video RPG player, but I like the interaction. I got my Ph.D. in Physics in Summer 2008, and promptly moved to the other side of the country for a job (I drove, took me five days). I'm probably as much, if not more, into the design aspects of character creation as I am into actually playing them. That may make me something of a power gamer, but, once the character is finished, I am willing to role play them into the ground (though it took a 7th sea campaign to actually cause me to lose a character to death). I'm also something of a live-by-the-rules, die-by-the-rules kind of player, though not to absurdity.

Hey, Ogremind, welcome aboard! Excuse my own belated response to your introduction. I often miss weekend posts, as I'm not generally around. Congrats on your Ph. D. That's impressive stuff, and in physics no less. You mentioned being on the other side of the country now--does that put you in the East? If so, welcome to the Atlantic, as well. It ain't so bad over here. Even with Maryland. Designing characters can be very addictive, I hear you there. You ever taken a look at M&M? Being points-based and pretty freeform, the possibilities are almost endless. A character-building dream, though that's just my opinion of it. I like not being too limited in regard to concepts. Do you play 7th Sea a lot? I've seen the setting and wanted to play it, but I've never had the opportunity.

Oh, man. . . I could've sworn that I posted something to greet ogremind officially after having seen him around the boards for awhile. It might've been late and I deleted it by accident. Whatever the case, thanks for letting us get to know a little bit about you. I too am impressed by your credentials, having had to take high school math twice before I managed to pass and barely making it through chemistry. The east coast isn't so bad, though I'm living in NY and it probably took me the same amount of time before I saw a white person as it did for you to see a black person I'm glad that so many of you enjoy the character designing process. I personally hate designing characters (the closest I can come is a class usually, and even that's like pulling teeth.) I'm mostly in it for the roleplaying and story development.

Hey Ogremind. Nice to meetcha, though you've obviously been here much longer than I. A PHD in Physics is incredible, I'm not so bad at math, but when it comes to real applications of the stuff, i'm stumped. I don't think I've ever answered a word problem correctly. Which way did you travel cross-country? the 66 or the 40? Ive gone from Va to Ca then back to Va when cash ran out, on the 40 route both times. It's actually a fun trip, when you don't drive. I don't really see the allure of Ca, besides the proliferation of young people. Va may seem to be full of cranky old businessmen and arthritic military veterans, but it's so beautiful year round. I dunno, in Ca i kind of felt like I was constantly under the sun's spotlight, some unpaid extra in a film or a bug in a cage. Here, I feel more like a real living person, with living things around me; as if released back into the wild.

I didn't get in to Mutants and Masterminds, because I was already into Hero system, which is much more free form. One of the other new members "Michael" is friends with one of the 7th sea creators, and had a long running game going every weekend. I had three different characters in that campaign, all members of Der Cruzenritters (fun!). We also had a basic D&D game that ran so long my wizard got to 27th level, and a GERPS homebrew-Starwars campaign as Imperials (I played an ace Tie-fighter pilot with a phobia of the force. It was supposed to segway into something like Firefly, but we ended up changing the timeline).
The main issue I have with the east coast at this point to the &^%$ humidity, but getting snowed on within eye shot of sea level is just plain weird. It is also a big change going from a rural-suburban environment to a big city. The mice are just f***ing cheaky.
I drove here mostly on I 80, and then from Chicago to Baltimore on 96 (?). I had one snafu for each day, with the first being my left front tire tread separating about 60 miles from Salt Lake City. I'm lucky the tire stayed inflated, but getting the spare out of my packed trunk in the middle of the center divider in the salt flats was a pain.

Welcome. From time to time we get some players without a familiarity of the game, but most of the basics are pretty simple once you get the hang of it. Most of us here have an understanding of the rules to the extent that we'd be able to help you and answer most any questions you can put forth and we're patient and willing to work with people who are willing to stick around and join in our campaigns, so don't worry. Personally I am most familiar with d&D 3.5, but there are some people around here who will be able to cover 4th edition rules or rules for other systems which have campaigns running on our boards or which will be run in the future. If you haven't already, take a look at the rules for 3.5 D&D HEREand be sure to post any game rules related questions in the Game rules & Mechanics Q&A board

SCORN!!I'm just kidding. There is no scorn for being unfamiliar with D&D. Allow me to echo the welcome of Shakes, and encourage you to stick around and give our little home on the web a shot. I sincerely wish I could extend the offer to personally mentor you, but time is always fleeting. However, if you ever have any questions about game mechanics, what play-by-post is like or what's expected of you, or even about any of the games currently going on, you're welcome to hit me with a private message and ask. Though for good measure, posting your question on the board Shakes linked to is encouraged. I look forward to seeing you in some campaigns. Welcome to KMan's!

I had three different characters in that campaign, all members of Der Cruzenritters (fun!). I wanted to mention that talking about 7th Sea here encouraged me to take a deeper look into it again. Wound up picking up a pdf of the game mechanics and am seriously considering running a group through it for my tabletop troupe. Die Kreuzritter do appear to be thoroughly badass. That must've been extremely fun. If you have any tips about what might make a 7th Sea game more enjoyable, I'm all ears. Well, not literally, 'cause that'd be kind of gross. But I do have two ears, and they are thoroughly intent and receptive on receiving constructive input. Only... it's really eyes, since this is online... I think you get what I'm saying. Err, typing.

Welcome, arcaus! Don't think you're any less welcome as someone new to the game. I like to think I don't know the rules too well myself, even though I've played for several years. All you need is a good imagination, that's my personal opinion. Start reading the most basic rules, experiment a little with making fun characters (those first characters you make will stick with you the rest of your life!), and see if you can join a game somewhere. From then on, it's like riding a bike; you don't need to be able to do wheelies to get from point A to B.

Heheh. Rules are the lulz. You are never penalized for not knowing them because folks here are helpful, it's sometimes even for the good sake of roleplay that you dont know them.
