While the ocean's waters seem calm, getting close to the cliff walls in your small boat only increases your awareness of dangerous the water really is. Harknail attempts to light a torch but is unable, at least you have the magical light of Bharash to guide you. Doran is the first to jump out, and quickly finds out how slippery the cliffside is. He manages to catch himself by hugging the cave wall before he regains his balance. DM NOTE: Treat the ground as difficult terrain. Only make an Acrobatics check if you try to pass through someone else's square. Map www.bluntaxe.com/files/moonhaven/cave.pngNote I only used your character's initials to represent them. G and H are actually one more square over (doubled up in the boat). I pushed them out just to make it easier to read.

[Sorry for missing the last set of posts; I don't do much posting on the weekends. Also, I don't remember how it's calculated, but my Init says +2. Feels like it should be +0 or +4, though. Anyhow, a 20 on the die is awesome, thank you.] Gabe takes a moment to let the others get on out while he tries to figure out a way to tie up the boats to prevent them from drifting while they're in the cave. With no sign of the goblin boat, he has to kind of wonder what they did with their craft. For the time being, he settles for tying a length of rope to the boat and keeping it in hand, unless there's an anchor that can be tossed over.
In the mean time, he does his barking of orders. "Doran and our brawny new guy take point. Sanem, you've got the rear, and our new arcane friend can be right in front of you. I'll take the middle." If light continues to be an issue, Gabe will strike a sunrod for Doran or Harknail to use, knowing it would be wise to have light both up front and towards the rear. He'll hold it himself if need be, though between the rope and his glaive, it will be a juggling act.
[Nothing much to do but bark some orders until whatever's happening happens. If combat gets underway, though, Gabe will probably use Commander's Strike to have somebody close to the fray keep attacking, given that he's in the boat and dealing with the rope.]

Trying to keep up with the orders but not knowing anyones names Bharash at least works out he must be the new arcane friend and should stay near the back.
Bharash will let the two brawnier guys out forst then if they don't get attacked immediately also disembark.
"I must thank you all again for coming to aid me so quickly. Hopefully whatever these goblins have planned to deter us we can handle together. My name is Bharash. Not a lot shorter then 'arcane friend' I know, but a little."
As we can not see much Bharash will sweep his dancing light round in an arch so we can see a bit more around us. We should be able to see another 3 squares all around while still keeping ourselves in the light. I assume those with low-light vision can also see twice as far?

As the lot of you gather your belongings and try to disembark you notice up ahead a flash of light and the sounds of the goblins, who also appear to be going to land.

Doran will try to sneak forward. The lighting might be a problem, though.

Gabe shrugs helplessly. "I guess we go to the light," he says, with a small chuckle. Not much hope for stealth in this situation, but what's a tiefling to do? He keeps the rope in hand, not wanting to lose track of their boats.

"Good to meet you Bharash, I am Sanem." Is all that is said before the elf moves off to get a better view of their situation.

I assume those with low-light vision can also see twice as far? OOC: Not in 4th Edition, I checked with the help line. IC: "Harknail be I" said the ancient construct as it made it's way out of the boat. Figuring he was one of the brawny ones, he took his place in the front. That seemed the proper place for the heavily armored Warforged. Once away from the boat, he prepared for trouble, clamping a large shield on his right arm and attaching a bastard sword over his left hand.

Bharash is slightly startled when the construct responds with its name. He had not even considered it would have one. Whoever had made it must have put a lot of effort in. He wondered how such a thing came into the possession of this small band.
As the others get themselves organized Bharash's light starts to flutter. He picks up a suitable rock and letting his first light spell fail enchants the rock with a new light spell. He then conjures a magical hand to carry the illuminated rock in front of them as they approach the goblins. More practicla that way.
"I'm ready." Bharash assures the others. Bharash will advance in his alloted position keeping the light positioned just ahead of them.

As we can not see much Bharash will sweep his dancing light round in an arch DM Note: Light spell is cast on an object or 'square'. I assume you cast it on something minor, like a rock. If you want to do something with it you may, otherwise I will consider it, in your possession. Map www.bluntaxe.com/files/moonhaven/Cave2.pngMap notes: Doran isn't lit, but that is where he is at in relation to the light. The small light ahead is what you saw earlier, but is not currently lit. You hear the shuffling of many feet ahead, they seem to be heavy footed as if they are they are using their footsteps to find their way. They grunt obvious commands and you can only feel as if you are being watched.

OOC: Yes I reread the spell description of light after making that post and realised I was wrong too. Thats why I cancelled it and did it properly in my last post. To clarify I have cast light on a rock then cast mage hand to create a hand to carry the lit rock. By using mage hand he should be able to move the rock slightly ahead, sweep it round in arches, etc.
I propose we continue forward in the order Gabe suggested; Doran, Harknail, Gabe, Bharash, Sanem

Does Doran think that he can sneak up on the other light without being lit himself, and not fall into a bottomless pit or get eaten by a grue?

Does Doran think that he can sneak up on the other light without being lit himself, and not fall into a bottomless pit or get eaten by a grue? The other light source was brief and you can't really see what is ahead, you can attempt to continue feeling your way forward if you like, but it is unlikely you would surprise them.

Harknail will stay at the forward edge of the light, so that he can watch his step on the slippery ground. He realizes that this will let the goblins attack him from the darkness, but is willing to bear the brunt of a surprise attack in order to protect the others.

Oh, goody. Looks like Doran will walk along behind the (armored) suit, as he doesn't care to stumble around in the dark.

"Let's keep going, people," Gabe says as quietly as he dares. "Harknail, Bharash, welcome aboard. I think the goblins are as blind as we are, so if he can't catch them offguard, let's try to catch them with sure footing and speed. Move."
The tiefling is still hoping for some place to tie off the boats, but will continue to tug them along until then. With light provided, he decides against the sunrod--one less thing he'll have to carry.

Harknail continues to move forward, with sword and shield at the ready.
OOC: A sunrod would give us 20 square radius of light so that nothing could sneak close to us. Harknail has a free hand to hold it (his shield mounts to his arm and leaves his right hand free). He just doesn't have any sunrods...

You continue to press forward. Harknail edges his way past Sanem while Doran waits for the armored one to catch up. Gabe notices a rock outcropping in the water he could tie the boats to, but it could be difficult to attempt with the slippery terrain. www.bluntaxe.com/files/moonhaven/Cave3.pngMap Note 1: You notice a cloth, perhaps a large bag of a tan/brownish color laying crumpled up on the ground. Light: Because the light source is moving, keep in mind just because a square is lit on the map doesn't mean it was lit the entire round. Dancing around leaves opportunities for something to move unnoticed. Harknail: Acrobatics check please, for passing a character. Gabe if you want to tie off the rope: Acrobatics check.
