ooc: I would have had Doran jump in for this kind of work, but it looks like his skill bonuses are the same as the rangers. "A dagger? Let me see."

OOC: The last check was actually acrobatics, but either way Sanem made the check. You also didn't say where he wanted to land so I picked the floor.
Sanem's light stone fell as he used both hands to push himself up and forward into the round chamber. He just got a glimpse of the light source, before one of his hands slipped and he fell. The agile Sanem was able to use his other hand to direct and control his fall so that he landed on his feet next to those standing below him.
Sanem thinks back the the glimpse he got. The light source was a small egg shaped thing about the size of a finch egg (smaller then the blade of a dagger). It glowed with different sections being different colors. It was being held in place by the fuller (groove) of the dagger.

Sanem relays his findings to the others. "What do you think? A gem of some kind you reckon?", Sanem asks them. "Want to give it a go Doran? Be careful though, I don't like the looks of that dagger".

Bharash tries to think if he knows of a magical device like that described.
[dice=20] +8 arcana
"A trap of some sort maybe? It is possible the egg like thing was balanced precariously on the edge of the blade so that it would fall and make something bad happen if the dagger was removed." Bharash observes.
"Doran maybe have a look. Would I be able to gently remove the egg with my magic hand before we took the dagger?" [rand=03026543537832260230008712851934294440831078645572148335748699245304]

Thursagan says, "if you are so afraid of touching it there, maybe we can widen the gap and take a look at it here on the floor" while glancing to the hammer on his side.

Doran easily climbs onto the shield being held by Dwarf and construct. Using the glowing stone he sees what looks to him to be a very fine dagger. Fine that is if the tip hadn't been destroyed by driving it an inch into solid rock!
Duran is unsuccessful at pushing himself up to get a better look the mysterious object behind the dagger.
OOC: Need another acrobatics role to control his landing.
OOC: The full sequence is: Acrobatics or Athletics DC 10 to reach hole Acrobatics or Athletics DC 20 to see glowing egg Athletics DC 15 to hold position (more than just a brief glimpse) Acrobatics DC 15 to land without hurting someone Only the first role is required to see the dagger or reach either the dagger or what's behind it, all the rest are to see what's behind the dagger without moving anything.

Gabe pauses thoughtfully for a moment then sighs, "Hang on guys, wasn't there a table and chair in that other room. Someone give me a hand."
If the chair sitting on top of the table isn't strong enough to support the weight of a couple of people Gabe is hoping that at least using them will be enough to allow someone to stand next to the dwarf and help support Doran as he climbs up.

Harknail joins Gabe in bringing the table and chairs from the nearby guard room. While no one would mistake them for fine furniture, they were quite sturdily built. The limit to how many could climb on seemed to be more a matter of size then strength. After some experimentation they found that only one person at a time could fit standing on a chair. And only one person could stand on the table next to the chair. Still, this was a much better arrangement.
OOC: With someone on the table helping to support the legs, reduce all skill DCs by 5: DC 5 to climb, DC 15 to look, DC 10 to maintain look. DC 10 to get back down without falling. Again, only the first check is needed to reach the items, the hard part is seeing the glowing egg behind the dagger.

Acrobatics to get back down: [dice=20]+9 Sucking it up, but it is enough. What would the roles be if Doran tried to pull the dagger out?[rand=28650973307305894565198727261176453123636092582835087360449448624]

As everybody is so worried about touching the item, Thursagan suggest: "I have travelled with wizards that could grab things at distance, does any of you have that kind of power?" Anyway, now that he is not serving as base, he will ready his shield as far as there is anyone on the hole manipulating the object (OOC: does the defense action work out of combat?)

What would the roles be if Doran tried to pull the dagger out? OOC: Acrobatics or Athletics roll to climb back up (now reduced to DC 5), Doran succeeds automatically. Possibly an Athletics check if the dagger is stuck in the stone and doesn't pull out easily. No roll needed to reach either the dagger or the magic item behind it.

Anyway, now that he is not serving as base, he will ready his shield as far as there is anyone on the hole manipulating the object (OOC: does the defense action work out of combat?) OOC: Good question to ask in character. The answer is that the Wizard needs to see something to move it. With the spell already cast, he wouldn't need to have a hand free. So the question is if Bharash is able to see the glowing egg. OOC: If you are expecting something bad to happen, sure, use defense action. It wouldn't be considered resting of course. I reserve the right to change my mind on this one. Mostly I don't want every fight to start with everyone on both sides having gone full defensive before the fight starts.

He will do this time, as he is fully rested, but it is good to know for the future.

Howahkan will search the entire area to see if he can find a reason for the dagger and egg's existence. Are there any papers or documents? Was anyone carrying any keys or unusual items? Have we looked in all the nearby rooms yet?

Howahkan examines this room and the room nearby. The only way in or out of the room with the dagger is through the portcullis. The portcullis can be closed from within the room. Specifically, there is a spot for a tripwire trigger could be connected. This is how the last goblin was able to close portcullis. But the portcullis can only be opened by using the crank in a nearby room. It can also be closed from there as well. There doesn't seem to be any way to lock the portcullis.
Looking at the room itself, it has obviously been here for quite a while and had several uses during that time. Most recently, the goblins have been using it as a rat cage for their oversized rats. Before that, apparently long before that based on the condition of the trade goods, the room was used as a store room.
Howahkan concludes that the dagger and glowing egg were most likely placed there by someone trapped in this room who did not want those items found, either a prisoner or an attempted thief caught by the portcullis trap. Many possible scenarios run through his mind, different variations of why someone might want to hide those items. But he is pretty confident that like the trade goods, and despite their shiny appearance, that those items have been up there for a long time and are not something the goblins know about.

Gabe, "Call if there is any trouble I'm going to keep an eye out around the corner, now that we are all together I don't want someone sneaking down and locking us up" and then he walks around the corner so he standing just outside the door to the other room. [G12]
