I clicked on the link and had to download itunes. So I did that and when I synced it erased all my music. Does everyone who upgrades their computer run into this problem. You shouldn't have to be an expert to upgrade your pc and have your songs carried over. It should be automatic. Anyway, is there a way to get your music back? The songs were mostly purchased from the itunes store. I've upgraded both computers and iTunes many times without losing music. Though when updating computers I do need to copy all music (and all other personal files) from the old computer to the new one.
It sounds like you synced your iPhone to a old computer, got a new computer but didn't copy the music from the old computer, then clicked on the link to download itunes to the new computer and synced to the new computer. Is this correct?
An iPod or iPhone can only sync with one computer at a time, syncing to any other computer does erase everything on the iPod or iPhone.

I upgraded the OS to Windows 7. Don't know if I can recall the files from the old computer or not. Will apple let me redownload everything? With cloud computer these days, all of this shouldn't be necessary. ITunes should save a copy on their server. The average person would not know how to follow a complex procedure of file transference from one machine to the next or even that they had to. To me, it's very frustrating. I like lala.com where your music always in the cloud and can't be lost. The good news is I didn't have hundreds of songs like many people might have, maybe $30 worth at most but it could have been disastrous if you had a $1000 collection. By the way, Dragon Dictation works great. Thank you for letting me know about it.

The first thing I do when I get a new computer is transfer everything from the old computer. This is easy with a Mac, when I turn on a new computer for the first time, it gives me an option to copy everything from the old computer. But then I have decades of game notes (like characters from 1984) that I would hate to loose.
I generally avoid Windows as much as I can. I use it for Character Builder, and a few other game related programs not available on the Mac, but that's about it. So I don't know how you can recover your files from your old computer. If you upgraded to Windows 7 and it wiped the disk as part of the install, then everything that was on your computer is gone, unless you have a backup. I think that's how installing Windows works, but I haven't had to reinstall Windows ever, so I'm not sure.
I checked Apple web site. Other than iPhonen Apps, anything you buy you can only download once. Like a physical CD, it's up to you to avoid losing it. Unlike a physical CD, it's easy to loose electronic media They do have some tips on how to search for music files that aren't showing up in iTunes, and how to get them recognized, but that does assume that you still have access to the files. Here's the apple page on that topic here.
Another thought, unless you threw away all files on your old computer, you must have done something to copy information (like character sheets) from your old computer. If this was an automatic process, then it might be that the music is there but isn't authorized (old protected musing can only be played on authorized computers). If that's the case then you can just authorize your new computer. It's a long shot, but I'm throwing out any idea I can.
The final option is to go to the bottom of this page. Click the Contact us link. Explain the problem. Apple might contact you and reauthorize you to redownload all of the music that you've purchased. The emphasis is on "might". You should have tried everything else first.

"I was afraid of that" says Zachary as he looks down at the melted snow goblin. "So, can we hike back to civilization before dark, or do we need to camp out here?"

Thanks Harknail, I appreciate it. Sorry if I seemed upset. Honestly, I should have known better. I do think I may have the files backed up somewhere, I just have to search for them.

"I was afraid of that" says Zachary as he looks down at the melted snow goblin. "So, can we hike back to civilization before dark, or do we need to camp out here?" It took most of a day to hike out here. While the trip back will be much faster because you aren't making your way through a blizzard, there is still enough snow on the ground for making slow going. In good weather when the trail is dry, Zachary has been able to come out here, spend an hour studying the tower, and making back to town by evening. But there is no chance of doing that now.

As someone who works in speech recognition (albeit in a research, not commercial capacity) it is cool that it works. I friggen hate Nuance (makers of dragon) though for their anti-competitive patent and business practices, and will never buy their products.

The only reason I downloaded this iPhone app was because it was free. While I use the Dragon speech recognition engine on a regular basis now, it's because the company that I bought speech recognition software from has been able to license the engine from Dragon. Since they serve a market that Dragon isn't interested in (Macs), it's a win for both companies. It's clear that the group will need to camp tonight, but they do have the choice of camping inside or outside. Harknail wonders out loud if the fireplaces can be used to build a fire in.

They make a fine product; the problem is they have sued or bought competitors to a point where really all you see are nuance products, or people licensing them. Just a pet peeve of mine, don't mind me!

Surprised at how quickly the magical cold died down when the cold beast died but not complaining Bharash releases the magic sustaining his ball of fire and takes the indoor route through the library to the bottom. Collecting a few books that may make an interesting read on the way.

Is it colder inside or outside?
Also, how cold was it at a location we think we could make it back to before dark?

"If there are fireplaces, there must be some place to store wood on the tower. Does anyone wants to come with me to search? It will be good to have a fire either inside or outside"
Thursagan prefers to stay indoors, but he will keep with whatever the group decides.

Is it colder inside or outside? Also, how cold was it at a location we think we could make it back to before dark? At the moment it is colder inside, although that might change once the sun goes down. Any place you could reach before nightfall was a howling blizzard on the way in. It is certain to be warmer now, but there is no way to be certain. Most likely the temperature is going to remain cool (as in just above freezing) until the group gets past the snow.

Harknail will go with Thursagan, and I'm sure others tag along as well. Inside the group finds fireplace tools (with devilish designs in the handles) and empty wood bins (with devilish decorations). But in the kitchen pantry is a good supply of firewood, presumably intended for the stove. After 30 years of being freeze-dried, is as dry as it can get.

Sanem would prefer to stay outside, as he doesn't like the look of the tower even with the ice chipped away. But he will stay with the rest of the group.

Zynthis likes the idea of a real fire. It would give him a chance to thaw himself out. He assists in anyway he can.

Gabe follows those inside and begins to move the logs from the kitchen into the main room with the big fireplace, "Someone should examine this thing more closely before we stoke it, I wouldn't want some demonic overlord to be hopping out at us all of a sudden."

Those with second sight check out the fireplaces and don't find any magical energies. As far as they can tell these are now normal fireplaces. The larger fireplaces in the second floor lab and the third floor bedroom are also free of any magical energies.
I'm assuming multiple uses with detect magic (Arcana) to be sure that there is no magic in the fire places. No rolls needed.

Satisfied with the results Gabe starts piling wood into the main fireplace, "Anyone got a light?" He grins, stepping back to let one of the mages at it.
