(convincing a paladin to help battle evil outsiders can't be that hard, right?) A call to arms to fight a holy war in the neighbouring desert empire? (probably accompanied by Ka'lion declaring the Empress a lich in league with the devil) Could work.

Ka'lion - Kin to chaos. What a tittle. That alone should scare someone. He sees himself as monk material. But has a plain and until he honors his family he can't pursue it.
"We should find a paladin of nature. We have the best chance of getting along with them." says Ka'lion

"Isn't that sort of what we druids are? Paladins of nature?" asked Vadania.

Berith thinks on Ka'lions request, "I have heard stories of such from the western isles, but it would not be an easy journey. Still such a warrior would likely be seen as neutral to the interests of others in this land. You would need to seek out someone with greater knowledge of the isles, perhaps a sailor from the western ports."

"Why not a local group, someone from Merebas? If that's where the fiend is, it seems logical that the paladins there would have an interest in defending their homeland," says Brennen.

Vadania added, "Also we should bring Orns back to his friends, which we last saw at the Silver Flame monastery. There were a lot of travelers there last time we were there, so perhaps that would be a good place to look for someone to join our quest."

"Why not a local group, someone from Merebas? Quick reference - The fiend went east into the desert empire, and old and proud nation ruled by sorcerers and viziers that has faded someone from its glory days but is still vast and powerful, and which long pre-dates the westerly nations as a civilization. The sourthern desert lands are semi-autonomous, split from the main body of the empire by a particularly inhospitable stretch of desert.
Merebas lays to the south, a republic with a powerful religious tradition. Power there is a complex game of wealth and influence trading with everyone fighting over their slice of the pie behind closed doors, the rise and fall of the powerful played out in whispered conversations at official balls and traded over the tables of the church hierarchy and the ruling council of the mages guild.
Woldegard to the south is a feudal kingdom of territories ruled by individual lords and barons, all beholden to the king. A superstitious nation boarding on the teeth of the world, a great range of mountains to the north that dwarf those here in the Steadlands, home of all kinds of monsters and a great kingdom of ogres to the north east.
Beyond these nations are more distant lands - the relatively uncivilized and untamed western isles, the blasted wastes to the far south, the impenetrable forests and swamplands to the far east, and various other kingdoms and dynasties both large and small beyond.

"Doubtless many glory seekers, mercenary armies seeking to make a name, second children of the wealthy and sorcerers of ambition. Beyond that much would depend on the demons actions, but unless the Empress herself issues a decree any response would be on the head of each city-state and its ruler."

"The Empire worship the star gods. Lunitari, Solinari, and Nuitari, but the first the 'red moon' above all.
But there are no holy armies as you might find in Merebas. It is considered the place of the lords and vizers to ask of the gods and the place of others only to worship them lest they bring disfavour on the land."

Knowledge results - The rule of the Empress is absolute, her word the word of the gods. The high viziers consult and advise her on heavenly matters but the empire is structured in strict tiers - the empress, her immediate family, the viziers, those of sorcererous or royal blood (typically the same), lords of the city-states, the generals of the armies, the merchant class, soldiers, the lesser priests, citizens, and slaves.
All gods of the pantheon are worshiped but only in passing for fortune or on their holy days. To worship a god against the interests of the Empress is treason, while cults and holy armies are outlawed beyond the personal guards and servants of lords and viziers though the grander temples may have in some cases hundreds of priests.
Tink notes that worship is somewhat less competitive in terms of moral standing among the Empire - a soldier might ask Kiri-Jolith for strength and later offer praise to Takhisis, however false attribution or worship beyond a gods pantheon is considered poor form and in some cases unlawful if it is determined a citizen might be bringing a gods displeasure upon the land.

Vadania comments, "I suppose it makes sense to ask for help from the empire being invaded by the demon, though it sounds like we'll need to be careful not to offend the leaders. Still you would think that they would be interested in stopping a demon incursion into their territory."
Vadania comments, "There are so many things to do, and so little time to do them. We have trinkets to sell in Burr. We should bring Orns back to the Silver Flame Monastery. Ka'lion wants to find another book about these demons, and we need to find others that are willing to fight against the demon."
Vadania considers, "We could give Orns the trinkets as his pay for services rendered, and ask Berith to teleport him to the Silver Flame Monastery. That would take care of two of the destinations." Giving him the trinkets would help make up for giving him the items that no one else wanted. Besides, Vadania wasn't motivated by money.
Vadania asks Berith, "One thing I'm concerned about is that if you teleport us to a far distant land that it will take us a very long time to get back. Or can you teleport us back once we send word that we're done there?"

"So let's start with writing up a list of priorities. Need to return to Burton, check up on my house, and depending on how things are going. I'm free to continue the quest with the demon book. Once that's done I need to advance another level as a druid and then begin my shape changer studies but I'd have no other distractions that I can think of of at this time." says Ka'lion
