Vadania considers, " We could give Orns the trinkets as his pay for services rendered, and ask Berith to teleport him to the Silver Flame Monastery. That would take care of two of the destinations." "That's a pretty good idea," says Tink. "And maybe it would be easier to scry on Ka'lion's house, if it does need checking up on."

"There is an ancient and distinct tree not far from the monastery, a suitable target for teleportation far enough from the monastery itself to not alert the cabal as to my presence."

"My place needs checking up on and they may need my input. When we found it - it was unsafe for anyone to use. I claimed because it has history related to dragons - but it would never be a typical home. I set up 600 gold to get them started. So I'd like to take a look. It was perfectly located to set up a place for people to find us." says Ka'lion, "It has a few interesting magical areas.."

"What is the closest suitable site near Ka'lions place." It is in the forest between the monastery and Burr Town, a little closer to the former. The nearest landmark would be the portal tower.(if there are no objections, he will teleport you to a location near the monastery to get the game moving again)

That's fine with Vadania, that's where we were heading anyway.

Having seemingly given up on choosing a destination Tink accepts the suggestion and the party is quickly gathered and whisked away to the east - quite an experience for Vadania but more familiar for the others.
Ka'lion is familiar with this particular tree and knows the way to the nearby monastery. Looking about there is no sign of the unusual winter to the south, nor any notable change from his last visit.
Berith asks that the group return here at dawn two days from now to collect the communication stone but adds that if they are unable to return immediately he will hide the stone here, indicating a spot hidden from view amongst the burnt branches of the old lightning-struck tree. And with those final words the mage is gone.
------------------
All of the group have some familiarity with the way east into the desert from here, the broken lands are well known in legend. Said to have once been a vast inland lake and the jewel of the old empire they are now a labyrinth of canyons obscured by powerful glamours and mus-directive magic.
Despite all this it is considered relatively safe for travelling parties as the magic seems determined to hide something, suggested to be a great lost city of magic and wonder. Those who stray from the main path east find themselves back upon it, though those determined to force the issue are rarely seen again. The nature of the magic and the many winding paths have done much to thwart enterprising bandits over the years and with the partys considerable strength they likely have little to fear in the four day journey.
Whether they wish to make that journey at all with the services of a Berith is another matter. The demons path may be easier to track from the source but nothing in Ka'lions book seems to show the broken lands.
------------------
It is only a short walk until the monastery is in sight. The camp of the cabal is still here though it seems smaller now, and a new camp - some kind of baggage train - has also arrived bearing the colours and styles of Woldegard.

Kaolin will take a look around after dropping by the monastery and asking to see their library.

The priests welcome the group back, informing them that Eldon, Lynette, and Altar had travelled east while their old companion Garrot had travelled to the north. Of others of the parties quittance such as Xana and Aldreda they are unsure though a watchman believes she saw Aldredas wolf heading southwest into the forest the same day that the party had left.
Currently there is concern here over possible conflict between forces from Woldegard and the Cabal, the latter of whom have been seeking that the priests here support their claim to Clearwater. The situation has been exacerbated by a magical darkness that has descended over the north desert and talk of a new power there blocking the path of traders from Woldegard to the empire from the north. Details are hazy however.
The guards here note that they have not received word from Burr for a while now. Not unusual in of itself but the last messenger brought news of ogres on the south road. The monastery itself had sent a rider only this morning to seek more information on events.
Ka'lion finds the library in much the same state as it had been when he was here before (he still carries the book he borrowed)

Ka'lion returns their book. {which book was that?] Ka'lion is going to ride to Burtown stopping by his place on the way. Whose coming with him. They are going to need horses if we are going to get back to the tree in 2 days.

Ka'lion returns their book. {which book was that?] A basic guide to the outer planes. At this point there are three big-ish adventure chains to pick from - 1) A mix of combat and defense of the Steadlands - which I put together when you abandoned the demon questline 2) Desert and dungeon combat and traps - demons, chapter 2 3) Jumping ahead of Eldon/Altar/etc to a later chapter with Beriths teleport.[/font]

Vadania was pursuing option 1 until she was replaced as leader. This is because she didn't want to leave the steadlands and because Ka'lion doesn't want to fight the demon until much later (I think he assuming that the demon isn't getting more powerful over time, perhaps faster than we are).
However, Vadania would have no objections to any of those three choices. She wouldn't be comfortable leaving the steading, but she'd do it to deal with the demon. And she can now survive dessert heat easily.
Vadania will introduce Tink to the important people of the monastery, and let them know that she's the new leader of the group.

Vadania was pursuing option 1 until she was replaced as leader. This is more of a player than a character question - i'm not sensing any eagerness to go chasing encounters, so would it help to bring the encounters to you more actively?

I'm interested in chasing encounters, but it seems like Ka'lion's player wants to avoid encounters whenever he can (unless they are trivial encounters that we can defeat without risk).

When Ka'lion was created he designed as an end game character - he was never designed to encounter the deomon before 15th level - When Vedanta was created she was designed to kill the demon at 1st level. He thought correctly that the gm would kill the demon for us so we could attack it with a mount spell and blow it up. As a player I've fought demons and devils before with other players - those fights where total party kills around 8th or good fights around 12th. But those characters had much stronger weapons and much stronger then anyone in this party - 20 str where typical. Based on the average ability of this party to win on our own marts the party needs to be at least 15th level. I figure this bad ass demon/devil is power level a pit find prince ac around 35 or higher. Which means at this time none of us can hit him. Kaolin is not wasting time he's looking for helpful information Vedanta doesn't care about. So devils such as fallen angels while out this enter party with one attack. Just one - we have weak saves as a rule. This may be an old debate but if I'm destroying the game for you guys I'll quite.
