Given the feedback from the party, we will keep hex as originally intended. Ty for the feedback it helps run a fun game 4 all of us.
With the monsters slane. What it ate all these years spills out of its slimy body.
Investagion checks if u want. Not perception cause its very hard to see past the guts of the slime.
The actual oasis is calm and peaceful at least for some time. The water is now normal. It seamed the ooze had laid in wait within the water. When new comers came to get water it would snatch them up.
Food would come to it so it would seam. Yet today food fought back and slew the beast. With the cheif and party safe the tribe ensembles back into camp.

Callo approaches, dismissing the hammer and giving a low bow to the orc, "your strength was great, I think the creature had met its match even without our aid but I am pleased to have been of help."
Once the others have spoken Callo will take a moment to poke through the slime with mage hand and prestidigitation.

I will enter the water (as a crocodile) and do my investigation check in there. I am looking for stuff but am also looking for a cause of the creature, passageways, that sort of thing.

If the roll has changed to perception due to where I am that’s +7.
Wind looked at the scene and had some of his faith in the land restored. This monstrosity could have reeked havoc for years, but it was taken care of. He was impressed with Varis whom had taught him something. He had run to help the animal, something Wind should have done.
He wouldn’t hesitate again.
Something wasn’t right. Strange oozes lying in ponds absorbing swords wasn’t a proper oasis. He took a breath and slipped into the water to see what he could see with his crocodile eyes. 1-20�1-20

Varis finishes cleaning off his sword, and sheathes it once more. Hopefully that was the only one lying in wait for them. This was suppose to be a place to relax, so far it'd been anything but. He gives a 'It was nothing' nod to the orc chief as he watches Wind turn into a crocodile and dive into the oasis. The woman, Callo, makes a mention of it before producing a magical ball of light. Fully aware of his complete lack of any magical abilities, Varis chuckles to himself softly.
"Some would call arriving through a bolt of lightning from the sky curious as well. Not that any of it makes sense to me. My life is so much simpler."
Varis bends down at the base of the oasis. If there was something else down there, Wind would let them know. He shifts through some of the muck, amazed at the things the slime had managed to swallow. He also cupped some of the water in his hand, checking to see if it were safe to drink despite the creature that had been hiding and died within it.

So a crocodile can see in the most murky of waters so the animal u chose means no disadvantage so we are going with a 12. Callos light will actually given you advantage. So the best of the 2 dice is the 12.
With a 12 : a sack that has not been damaged by the water. Tho it has a lot of pockets on it.
A stick that has odd markings on it. You cant find that much else other then:
And a suit of armor yet it has so much muck on it u have to take it clean it off to tell what kind it is.
Top side : the water is not tainted with or bad to drink.
In the muck : you find a sword with arcana markings on it.
A bow with Elvin markings on it.
Some bracers. A nice battle ax and a Flail.
Along with broken arrows and javlins and sword tips that arnt too usefull but thier parts could be used for fire tinder and the sword tips if remelted could be forged again.

Nothing suggested that the water was unsafe to drink, which was good. There was only one way to be absolutely certain though. Varis cupped his hands, and lifted some water to his mouth, taking a swallow. If it killed him, perhaps the afterlife would be an improvement over this dragon riddled land. Drying his hands, he picks up the items he found within the muck and walks over to where Wind and the others had deposited things. Quite the find it seemed. Rotating the sword in hand, Varis glanced at the runes running down the blade.

Varis holds out the sword by the blade, hilt toward the newcomer Callo.
"Any idea what these mean?"
Varis glances down at the bow, the elven markings running along it catching his attention. A little reminder of home swallowed like the trees. After reading the markings and pushing aside his anger, Varis proceeds to help the party inspect the various items.1-20

Callo takes the sword, "the markings are arcane in nature certainly, though it will take longer to determine if the blade has any properties beyond its craftsmanship"
She looks towards the water, "the slime must have been here for some time picking of travellers to have gathered such a collection. I wonder what drove it to strike out when so outnumbered."
(lacking rituals, is there anything more than a skill check that Callo can do here?)

( using the Identify spell will tell u what they can do without having to spend time and attuning to the. An arcana check will tell u if its magic or not. Other choice is with detect magic spell. That will tell you possible type of magic if it has a type some dont but will then give you some idea of what they can do.
It will not tell you if its good or evil however.
The only think as a dm i know of otger then it talking to you is the Idenitfy could given it tells u all of its abilties including good, neutral or evil.)

In short the skill will at the very least tell you if there magic. Give how many objects instead of making so many roll or roll one and its possibly bad. Make 3 over all rolls for the grouping.
Its also possible if your ok with a bit of time laps callo and the others try them out as it were.

Callo knows if u put objects in its pockets that it can hold quite a bit of extra gear. When u place something in the pockets it does not reapear in said pocket. Tho when you go to pull out what u placed in said pocket it come right out as tho it was in there the hole time. She is not sure of exactly how its doing so but thinks there has to be a limit as to just how much was already stored and how much can be stored in it. it has a lot of pockets on it.
The stick that has odd markings on it: Its not the most elegant thing but she knows that casters of her time would yearn for iteams that already had spells in them as you using thier own slots. She is not sure what it can cast.
The insription glows as she is looking :
"cast me at the darkness in these troubled times."
And a suit of armor yet it has so much muck on it u have to take it clean it off to tell what kind it is.
( not sure what armors party can have so ill work with all of u to see who needs the armor. Its a +1 armor.

These she gets will make it harder for things to hit you, but knows you cant have armor on or have a sheild for its magic wont work if you did. She is not sure if they work in the animals forms given they would have nither. But maybe possible for what ever animal they are to still get the magic from it.

Varis hears the words incribed in thier head then outlaod in varis own voice without realy knowing its comming out says aload : "Swift death to you who have wronged me."
Then an arrow appears and with the string pulled by varis hands and it aims in the direction of the Red Army.
( It does attune to you aa one of the 3 slots of attuning . Ill message how it works cause it a bit longer.
i did have to mod it a tad bit over all it works like an Oathbow. Now given if your going into melee it will transform into a melee weaponry. So it more like an Oath weapon. Its just last person who had it was an archer hence the arrows into the slime.)

Callo brushed some more of the mud off the armour while she sized up her new companions. The first two seemed to be of the desert tribes though she could not recall a tribe of Kenku, victims of the war not yet come perhaps. For a warrior the other seemed to shun armour also. Setting it down she looked over the rest, the bow and its elven runes clearly of interest to the warrior and she made a mental note to be careful of what she said of elves around him. Holding out the bracers to Varis she states, "these are protective in nature and mayhap of use to a warrior such as yourself?", and to Wind the wand, "might I ask your thoughts on this sir Kenku, your power to cast a light onto this creature might give you some greater insight into it that I". Much of the rest was to large for her magic to repair but the weapons would be of value to the orcs and she glances towards the camp wondering if they would make claim themselves. It would take her a while longer to fully inspect the magic of these items. (Callo can use the armour and weapons, though the latter may have better value for the party in trade.
I've swapped an unused 1st level sorcerer spell for identify - might as well do my party mage job properly . She can identify 4 items before needing a rest, though Callo can ride her Warlock slots for the rest of the days encounters without trouble. The armour, bracers, sword, and wand are probably the top choices unless the party is looking to sell the weapons to the orcs here and now)

Regrettably, Wind releases his crocodile form to better inspect the items. He washes off the suit of armor to better see what it is. Then he takes particular interest in the bag and stick, but is open to sharing in the identification.
